Alternative theories of licensing parents (2) : analysis of the claim of adolescent prevention of Jack C. Westman

The theory of licensing parents aims to exclude incompetent parents from childrearing and to give every child appropriate protection and nurture of competent parents to every child, by requiring all parents to be licensed before having children. After American ethicist Hugh LaFollette proposed the claim in 1980, the active arguments of the pros and cons have been developed in the United States. However, it is probably appropriate to remain his assertion as thought experiment level because it is extremely unrealistic. Therefore we have to seek alternatives of licensing parents, which can put less restriction on parental rights and also can protect from child abuse in advance. So in this paper, I analyze American child psychiatrist Jack C. Westman's claim of preventing adolescent parenthood. His claim is different from Hugh LaFollette's which I formerly analyzed, and it is characteristic that he is trying to abandon the idea of licensing parents practically.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Progress and the scientification of the social reform in Deutsches Reich

In any country, the problems of poverty which social security deals with can be solved with political measures, because they are also social problems caused by society. Here is the necessity and possibility of La Riforma Sociale. In Germany, economics and preventive sanitation study have attracted attention as academic fields important for La Riforma Sociale since 1860s. The peculiar and ambivalent relation between these two fields became evident as the relation between science and social reforms. La Riforma Sociale in those days was not hostile to science and organizations and the strong connection between social science and La Riforma Sociale was found. This brought about the modernization of the poor relief system.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

    A Consideration about Academic Libraries

Universities in Japan have libraries where it is natural that students and teachers use them for studying and doing research. Universities need libraries because they are very important for students and faculties. Where is the library placed in the whole university? In Japan, university library has an additional name called "Fuzoku". What does "Fuzoku" mean? According to Nihon Kokugo Daijiten( Japan National Language Dictionary ), it means "belong to the main subject" In this case, the "main subject" is the university. However does the library "belong to this main subject" ? Most libraries in foreign countries are placed in the center of institutions. What academic part does a university have on campus? If there is no library in the university, the university can't function academically to help students and teachers do their studies and research. They have their own names such as Lockwood Memorial Library in the State University of New York at Buffalo and Rodgers Library of the University of Alabama. However, they don't have the name of "Fuzoku" ( belong to the main subject ). This paper surveys all academic libraries, "where are they placed in institutions or do they have the name of "Fuzoku or not?"論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

This research investigates by a questionnaire to 170 third grader students of a university in the childcare worker (kindergarten and nursery teacher) and elementary school teacher training course who experimented the second on-site training at child-care centers. In analysis 1, the differences among these groups concerning images of mentors, anxiety of onsite training, and vocational motives were examined. And in analysis 2, factors influencing "acquisition of models of childcare workers" and "waning confidence as childcare workers" that are the factor of identity as childcare workers were examined. On each analysis, the difference among hope for students' future careers after graduation (childcare worker, elementary school teacher, and office worker group) was compared with the result of after first on-site training (Tazume, 2012) . The results of the analyses are as follows. 1. Compared with the result of after first on-site training, the score of "acquisition of models of childcare workers" rose, and that of "waning confidence as childcare workers" decreased. 2. On vocational motives of the students of elementary school teacher group, the challengeoriented motives and interpersonal-oriented motives were high. 3. Factors influencing waning confidence as childcare worker were different between career groups, and the pattern of that was different from after first on-site training.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

This paper examines the roles external experts (university professors) should play in special needs education. A collaborative effort was made with elementary school speech therapists to summarize and examine what they learned and experienced through their observations of beginning arithmetic (addition) classes. Their views were then looked at in light of a pragmatic perspective as well as the Association of Mathematical Instruction' s approach to instilling the concept of mathematical operations (addition) by mediating between concrete and abstract sequences. Further examination will be made in relation to linguistic and experiential activities designed to encourage students to perform mathematical activities spontaneously、as outlined by the new curriculum guidelines.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Hakamairi, osonae, and kagezen : customs that conceal gender a case study of Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture

    Get PDF
application/pdf論文(Article)This paper uses a case study of Makurazaki City and clues obtained from local surveys of public cemeteries conducted in the surrounding area to consider the meanings contained in the "public" of public cemeteries and the kinds of mentalities inherent in hakamairi (visiting the fam ily grave). Having alluded to the relationship among kagezen (a tray of food for temporarily ab sent people), osonae (an offering to the dead—people who will never return), and hakamairi, all of which are customs that conceal gender, this paper further examines how, in its capacity as an action that is highly visible among others in the public sphere, hakamairi relates to changes in the significance of the "public" in public cemeteries, as well as the kinds of mentalities people have when praying for the dead. Furthermore, it presents the possibility that hakamairi helps to develop among people a shared mentality of public cemeteries being shared resting places for both the deceased with whom one was close with during their lifetime and those with whom one was not, and as places where one also prays for a diverse range of people.departmental bulletin pape
