    Online Education in the Post-COVID-19 Era: Insights from the Teaching Frontlines

    application/pdfThis qualitative study explores the perceptions of two higher education instructors regarding online education in the post-COVID-19 era. The researchers employ a narrative inquiry approach to investigate the successes and obstacles they encountered while developing and teaching various online classes. Our findings revealed that flexibility, convenience, as well as time and cost savings were the key advantages of online education. However, the results indicated that digital literacy gaps, problematic ICT issues, psychosocial frustrations, videoconferencing fatigue, and a lack of social cohesion can undermine the learning process in a virtual course. We also found that some distance education instructors feel they are expected to be available to administrators and students around the clock due to the affordances of technological tools. Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is a disruptive force in the educational field, offering potential benefits and significant obstacles for both students and teachers. The researchers argue that key lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic can help educators navigate the challenges posed by GAI and better equip them to integrate emerging technologies into their professional practice.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

    Classroom Observation in an Elementary School Teacher Training Program:Practice Using Video and Zoom

    application/pdf本稿は、小学校教員養成課程の英語に関する授業で実施する授業見学を、ビデオ、Zoomを活用して遠隔で行った実践について報告し、考察を行うことを目的としている。科目は、「教科に関する専門的事項」に当たる「英語」で、2年生が対象となっている。この授業で、外国語活動の授業見学を実施する際に、学生数が多いこと、授業の時間帯と外国語活動の時間帯が合わないこと、などの問題点を解消するため、ビデオとZoomを活用することにした。また、授業者の小学校教員と学生が懇談する時間も設定した。学生の授業後の振り返りと、授業者の小学校教員のインタビューを分析し、ビデオ、Zoomを活用した授業見学の効果と課題について考察を行う。The purpose of this paper is to report and discuss the practice of conducting a class observation remotely using video and Zoom in a class on English in an elementary teacher training course. The subject is "English," which corresponds to "Specialized Matters on Subjects" and is intended for second-year students. In this class, we decided to use video and Zoom to solve the problems of observing a foreign language activity class, such as the large number of students and the fact that the class time and the foreign language activity time do not coincide. In addition, time was set aside for the students to meet with the elementary school teachers who were teaching the classes. The student's reflections after the class and the interview with the elementary school teacher who taught the class are analyzed, and the effects and problems of the class observation using video and Zoom are discussed.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

    VAR Analysis of Japanese Alcoholic Beverage Exports and the Number of Foreign Visitors to Japan

    application/pdfThis paper empirically examines the relationships between the number of tourists visiting Japan and Japanese exports of alcoholic beverages using the monthly data of the number of tourists and the value of Japanese alcoholic beverage exports from January 2008 to December 2019. Based on the Granger causality test, the paper finds that inbound tourism to Japan does Granger cause Japanese exports of alcoholic beverages, and vice versa. The empirical results showed that a 1% increase in inbound tourism from China, the United States, and Korea increases shochu exports to these countries by 0.83%, 0.42%,and 1.02%, respectively. Also, the results show that the effect of the impulse shock continues from five months to fifteen months after the initial shock.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdf本稿では、植民地期朝鮮における民間の読本である『新文読本』(一九二九年)について、同書の翻訳底本に着目しつつ分析した。 「教養に力を入れる人の助け」となることをコンセプトとした『新文読本』は、日本書の翻訳が大部分を占めている。底本の傾向からは、同書における「教養」が主に初等学校卒業程度の知識や文章力、修養を指していることが読み取れる。朝鮮総督府編纂教科書など「朝鮮人本位」ではないとして当時の朝鮮社会で問題視されていた書籍からも、教養に役立つと判断された文章が底本として使用されており、「民族」という視点にとらわれず教養に特化するという徹底した編集方針がとられているといえる。論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

    Teacher's Learning from Class Observation of English Language Teaching Method:Discussion with Students and Reflection

    application/pdf本稿は、英語科教育法の授業見学を引き受けた現職教員の学びについて考察することを目的とする。授業見学後に、教員志望の学生との対話を行い、後日学生が書いた振り返りを通して得た学びについて授業者の教員にインタビューを行った。この過程からの教員の学びについて考察する。さらに、教員志望の学生が現職教員に与える影響から、教員研修の可能性についての示唆を提示する。中学校・高等学校の外国語(英語)科の教員免許取得を目的とした英語科教育法の授業で、授業見学を行っている。また、毎回授業後に、授業者の教員と学生がディスカッションを行う場を設定している。さらに、学生が書いた授業見学についての振り返りを授業者の教員に渡している。この一連の過程に加えて、後日、現職教員にインタビューを行った。現職教員の語りから、学生が現職教員に与える影響を考察し、授業見学を通した教員研修の可能性について提示する。The purpose of this paper is to discuss the learning of a teacher who undertook a class observation of English language teaching methods. After class observations, the teacher had a discussion with students and had an interview about his learning through reflection of students. The learning of the teacher from this process is also discussed. The influence of the students on the teacher will be presented to provide suggestions on the possibilities for teacher training. The author conducts class observations in English language teaching methods classes for the purpose of obtaining licensing for foreign language (English) courses at junior high and high schools. After each class, discussions are held between the teacher and students. The students have written reflections on the class observation are then submitted to the teacher. Teacher interviews were then carried out. From the narratives of the teacher, the influence of the students on the teacher will be discussed, and the possibility of teacher training through class observations will be presented.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
