Perceptions on the Control of Nature
application/pdfThis paper relies on a data set of haiku examples to highlight the differences in values of Western and Eastern beliefs. The concept of life, as it pertains to rocks, land and water are seen as inanimate by many North American haikuists, whereas they are considered to be alive according to examples of haiku studied for this paper. This paper includes practical examples for helping university students in Japan to balance the debate on the controllability of nature, and by extension, climate change.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
The Manifestaion of Chinese Influence in the Uncontrolled Areas of Myanmar’s Shan State
application/pdfThe border region with China in Myanmar’s Shan State has long been a sector of significant Chinese influence because this area is not under the direct control of the Myanmar government. The potential of Chinese uncontrollability from the Ming and Qing dynasties up until the present has been manifested via various civil wars by the Guomindang forces, and Red Guards, as well as skirmishes with special fraud groups. A number of ethnic minority groups have gained strength and migrated into cities in Shan State which has created uncontrolled zones along the Myanmar-China border. The Myanmar military forces have fought ethnic insurgents in this region and are beginning to be driven out of the uncontrolled areas. This paper will examine the Chinese influence in the uncontrolled areas of Myanmar’s Shan State.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Does ‘bitterlich weinen’ Mean ‘cry heavy’? —A Study of an Idiomatic Expression Used by H. Heine and R. Schumann—
(Article)departmental bulletin pape
