Rol actual de las universidades venezolanas en la formación temprana de médicos investigadores | Current role of the venezuelan university in the early formation of research physicians
Etnoictiología y aspectos pesqueros en comunidades costeras de la zona sur de la península de Araya, estado Sucre, Venezuela | Ethnoichthyology and fishery aspects in coastal communities of the southern zone of the Araya peninsula, Sucre state, Venezuela
In Venezuela, it has been little developed, putting at risk the preservation of this popular knowledge because it is mainly orally transmitted. In this sense, the ethnoichthyological knowledge of the inhabitants in coastal communities of the southern zone of the Araya Peninsula, Sucre State, Venezuela was evaluated. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were applied to people older than 10 years, on socio-economic, fishing and ethnoichthyological aspects in the towns of La Angoleta, La Galera and El Cedro. Forty five percent of the inhabitants were fishermen, followed by housewives and workers. there were 14 species of fish reported with medicinal uses, mainly to treat asthma, fatigue, bone pain, inflammation, among other ailments. The stingray (Dasyatis spp.) was the species mostly cited, using the liver oil as antiasthmatic, against fatigue, inflammation and bone pain. Fifteen species of fish were reported for various purposes including ornament, bait, self defense and poison. In the interviews, biological and ecological information of fish species was recorded. A good part of what is pointed out in this study about fish uses and some bioecological aspects of them was not registered in the literature. Thus, the importance of this type of studies is reinforced to leave written evidence of popular knowledge and preserving it over time.
Palavras chave: Evapotranspiração, Paspalum notatum, Irrigâmetro®, lisímetro.ABSTRACTThis investigation was carried out in the unit of research of the Irrigâmetro®, belonging to the Department of Agricultural Engineering of the Federal University of Viçosa, in Viçosa, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The treatments comprised of four constant groundwater tables (15, 20, 25 and 30 cm of dept), established in lysimeters (L15. L20, L25 and L30), with three repetitions. The grass-batatais was cultivated in the lysimeters. In the experiments the research design was entirely randomized. The purposes of this investigation were: to determine the reference evapotranspiration (ETo), by means of the lysimeters, with constant groundwater table and operating with Irrigametro®, as well as to study the effects of the groundwater levels of 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm on the ETo and to evaluate their performance in relation to the modified Penman, Radiation, Hargreaves-Samani, Pan and draining lysimeter methods. With the Penman-Monteith FAO 56 method being considered the standard method. The methods of L15, L20, M30, Radiation, draining lysimeter and Pan exhibited a good performance in the determination of the ETo. The highest consumption of water occurred in the 15 cm groundwater table, decreasing with depth. The method that exhibited the worst performance was the Hargreaves-Samani, not beingrecommended your use for the estimate of the ETo, under conditions similar to those studied in this investigation, due to your low precision and accuracy.Key words: Evapotranspiration, Paspalum notatum, Irrigametro®, lysimete
Growth response of quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) to varying levels of cassava tuber meal (Manihot esculenta) as replacement for maize (Zea mays) | Respuesta del crecimiento de la codorniz (Coturnix coturnix japonica) a distintos niveles de yuca (Manihot esculenta) como reemplazo del maíz (Zea mays)
The study was conducted to determine the growth response of quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) to varying levels of cassava as a replacement for maize. Thirty two Japanese quails were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments. In each of the four diets, sun-dried cassava tuber meal (SDCTM) was used to replace maize at 0, 25, 50, and 75% levels. The quails were fed one of four experimental diets over a period of 42 days (6 weeks). Result showed that there was no significant
difference (P>0.05) in feed intake between quails fed 0% (T1) and 25% (T2) and those fed 50% (T3) and 75% (T4) levels of inclusion of SDCTM as a replacement for maize. However, mean weekly feed intake was significantly higher (P0.05) was observed in weight gain between T1 and T3 groups just as there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in weight gain between T2 and T4 groups.
Persistencia del insecticida Clorpyrifos en hojas y tallos de guayabo (Psidium guajava L.) | Persistence of Chlorpyrifos pesticide in leaves and stems of guava-tree (Psidium guajava L.)
intensive system with wallow (IW) and intensive system without wallow (IO) in the humid tropical region using a completely randomized design. Twenty ducks were used per treatment with two replicates of 10 ducks each to give sixty ducks, all raised in deep litter. Feeding was uniform from duck starter mash, duck grower mash and duck layer mash given
on restricted regime (twice daily) basis for ducks in SI treatment or ad libitum for those on IW and IO. Average egg weight were higher (76.35g and 76.27g) in intensive systems than in semi intensive system (70.80g). Egg volume, specific gravity and shape indices were also higher in intensive system than in semi intensive. Albumen height, length, width, and index; yolk height and diameter, as well as albumen-yolk ratio were higher in IO than SI too. However, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) in management system with respect to egg length, width, shell thickness, shell weight and shell percentages, yolk index and Haugh unit of Muscovy duck eggs produced in different rearing systems. Feeding ducks ad libitum in intensive management system tends to encourage better egg quality than restricted feeding on semi intensive
system.
