    Effects of Different Pelleted Diets and Pellet Size on Bird Performance

    An experiment investigated performance of birds fed the pelleted corn-soy diet versus the pelleted 30% copra meal based diet with different pellet sizes. This study was conducted for six weeks. A total of 144 male day old chicks were used in this trial. One day old birds were randomly allocated to four treatment diets with six replications. The starter and grower pelleted diets were with or without 30% copra meal and in two forms, either fine or mixed sized particles. The experimental design was a two way factorial with two basal diets, two particle sizes and six replicate cages of six birds per treatment. The inclusion of 30% copra meal in the pelleted diet decreased body weight and feed intake, but improved feed eficiency. Grinding the diet to a fine pellet size impaired the body weight and feed intake. The effect of pellet size became more evident when the birds grew older. Birds fed the pelleted form of copra meal accelerated their growth rate so that they were not significantly different from the weight of birds fed the pelleted form of the corn-soy diet. However the feed intake of birds fed the pelleted copra meal diet was lower than the feed intake of those fed the pelleted corn soy diets. It was concluded that inclusion of copra meal in the diet impaired growth of birds, particularly in the starter phase. Pelleting and crumbling copra meal diet could increase the bird performance to the same level of the performance of birds fed the pelleted corn-soy control diet while fine grinding the pelleted diet reversed this trend.     The Effect of Adding Sodium-Potassium and Calcium-Magnesium to The Diet of Native Chicken Hen on Sex Ratio of Native Chicks

    Thirtysix native hens were used to determine the effect of adding Sodium-Potassium and Calcium-Magnesium to the diet of Native Chicken hens on determination of native chick sexes. Fifteen hens (n=5; control, Na-K and Ca-Mg) were fed for 1 month and the other hens (n=6, for control, Na-K and Ca-Mg) were fed for two months, then  all hens were artificially inseminated, intra-vaginally, dose of 100 million perm cell per 0.1 ml, once a week for two weeks. On day 2 of insemination, all eggs were collected and evaluated daily for 14 days.  Every 5 days, the selected eggs were incubated for 7 days and followed by candling to assess fertility.  On day 21-22 of incubation, day old chicks were evaluated using vent sexing method to assess the sex ratio. Type of nutrition, fed at both for 1 month and two months had a similar results in fertility, hatchability and chick sex ratio:  62.79, 58.03, 59.52;  52.02, 50.93, 55.54 and 46.11, 51.89, 46.67 percent, respectively.  Feeding period of three type of diet value for fertility, hatchability and sex ratio is 59.19, 61.04; 53.61, 52.05, and 48.24, 47.86, respectively.  Our results suggest that different amount of ions in the diet of hens could not have a significant effect on the percent fertility, hatchability and sex ratio of chicks.     Physical Characteristic and Palatability of Wafer Complete Ration Based on Sugar Cane Sprout and Bagasse on Friesen Holstein’s Calves

    This research was aimed to study the physical characteristic and palatability of wafer complete ration based on sugar cane sprout and bagasse. Physical characteristic measured were water content, water activity and density. Data of physical characteristics were analyzed using Completely Randomize Design, with four treatments and three replications. Analysis data of palatabity test used were T-test method i.e., rations of R0 vs R1 R2 R3, ration of R1 vs R2, ration of R0 vs R3, ration of R3 vs R2. The treatment was wafer complete ration with different fiber source, i.e. R0 = 80% concentrate + 20% field grass; R1 = concentrate 80% + 20% bagasse; R2 = concentrate 80% + sugar cane sprout 10% + bagasse 10%; R3 = concentrate 80% + 20% sugar cane sprout. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with Contrast Orthogonal Test. The result of this research showed that the wafer complete ration that contains sugar cane sprout had better physical characteristics. Palatability of wafer complete ration containing field grass and sugar cane sprout was more preferred than that containing combination of bagasse and sugar cane sprout. The average consumption of wafer complete ration on FH’s calf containing 20% of field grass was ranged at 44–48%, ration containing 20% of bagasse was at 6–10%, ration containing 10% of sugar cane sprout and 10% bagasse was at 13–16% and ration containing 20% of sugar cane sprout was at 30–33%.     Influence of Proline Utilization in Skimmed Milk Dilution of Frozen Sperm to Sperm Quality of Priangan Sheep

    The objective of this research is to know the optimal concentration level of proline in the skimmed milk dilution against sperm quality of frozen sperm of Priangan sheep.  The research was done in the laboratory of artificial insemination institution, Lembang, Bandung, from November 2004 up to January 2005.  In the experiment, sperm from five of Priangan sheep collected by artificial vagina and diluted with skimmed milk, each dilution added by different dose of 10; 20; 30; 40 μg proline and without proline for control.  The experimental method used by basic with CRD continued by Duncan multiple rank test 5% significant.   Observed variable was sperm quality measured after dilution and equilibration, and after thawing including percentage of motility, live, intact plasma membrane and spermatozoa intact head acrosome.  The result of experiment show that percentage of motility and life spermatozoa after dilution were not significant after treatment (P>0.05), after equilibration and thawing resulted the highest percentage of motility and life in the treatment of P30 (72.00 and 54.00%), and (82.20 and 67.60%) significantly different compared to the other treatment (P0.05), after equilibration the treatment P30 had the highest percentage of plasma membrane and significantly different with the other treatment (P0.05), and percentage of intact head acrosome was significantly different compared with the other treatment (P<0.05).  Where as post thawing P30 had the highest percentage of intact plasma membrane and intact head acrosome (61.20 and 65.20) compared to the other treatment (P<0.05).     A research has been conducted in Experimental Farm Faculty of Animal Husbandry Unsoed from July 1 st until August 15 th, 1996. The purpose want to study the influence of CMD supplementation in drinking water consists of M0 = control; M1 = 0.5 drops/1000 cc, M2 = 1 drops/1000 cc; M3 = 1.5 drops/1000 cc and M4 = 2 drops/1000cc. The performance observed were growth, body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion, drinking water consumption; and income over feed and mineral cost (IOFMC). The research involved 100 broiler chickens divided that CMD supplementation until 2 drops/1000cc did not significantly affect on the performance of broiler chickens except in income over feed and mineral cost (P<0.05).     Effect of Protein-Energi Concentration in Feed on Body Weight Gain, Energy and Protein Efficiency in the Growth Period of Merawang Chicken

    The study was conducted to investigate the effect of protein-energy concentration in feed on using of energy and protein  efficiency in the growth performance of Merawang chicken, as breed local of native chicken. This study was using 101 day old chicks from mating groups of six sires and 20 dams. The chickens were identification individually based on its parent groups, respectively. All of the chickens were divided  in three groups of feeding treatment that was different in protein-energy concentration but had the same of protein : energy ratio (1:150). The rations were namely (1) high concentration (21% protein and 2240 kcal/kg ME) for 36 chicks; (2) medium concentration (18% protein and 2670 kcal/kg ME) for 35 chicks and (3) low concentration (15% protein and 3140 kcal/kg ME) for 30 chicks, respectively. The weekly collected data were individually of body weight and feed consumption for 12 week of old.  The data were statistically analyzed by one way classification of completely randomized design (CRD) for  body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion, protein and energy intake, and efficiency of using protein and energy for body weight gain. The mean different was tested by Duncan’s multiple range of test. The results showed that body weight gain was only significantly different (P≥0.001) at 2nd and 3rd week of ages and then it was statistically no difference any more up to 12 weeks old of age. Weekly and cumulative feed consumption and feed conversion showed a highly significant different (P≥0.001). A lower feed consumption and feed conversion were found in a high protein-energy concentration and the higher in a low protein-energy concentration treatment. The best efficiency energy and protein (P≥0.001) was found in the treatment of medium and low protein-energy concentrations and the lowest one in the high protein-energy concentration. The conclusions was that the medium protein-energy concentration ration (protein 18% and 2690 kcal/kg ME) was the best ration for the first four weeks of age and then the low and the medium could be fed up to 12 weeks of age without different effect on body weight gain. The high protein-energy ration was not recommended, because of using protein and energy for body weight gain had a lower efficiency.     The Effects of Super Ovulation on the Number of Corpus Luteum of Coastal Sumatera Cows (Bos sumatranensis)

    The objective of this study was to observe the effects of super ovulation treatments on the number of ovulated corpus luteum. Metode   yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode eksperimen. The method used in this study was experimental. Sapi-sapi diprogram untuk sinkronisasi estrus menggunakan PGF2ά. The cows were programmed to experience estrous at relatively the same time (estrous synchronization) using PGF2ά. Sapi-sapi tersebut kemudian dibagi secara acak menjadi empat perlakuan, masing-masing terdiri dari empat ekor sebagai ulangan. Data yang dihimpun dalam penelitian ini adalah jumlah corpus luteum, dan jumlah folikel tetap. Cows were divided randomly into four treatments, each of which consisting of four heads. The number of corpus luteum and the settled follicles was collected during the study. Data dianalisis menggunakan Rancangan Bujur Sangkar Latin, jika perlakuan berpengaruh nyata maka dilajutkan dengan uji lanjut Duncan. Data were analyzed using a Latin Square design. In case there was a significant difference, Duncan test was used thereafter. Result showed that Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan PGF2ά dalam pelaksanaan sinkronisasi estrus berjalan cukup baik.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan superovulasi berpangaruh nyata terhadap Corpus Luteum dan folikel menetap.super ovulation had a significant effect on corpus luteum and settled follicles. Kesimpulan penelitian ini  protokol terbaik superovulasi tahun pertama adalah T-3 karena menghasilkan Corpus luteum dan Embrio yang lebih banyak.In conclusion, the best super ovulation protocol in the first year was the combination of 4 day daily injection of 40 mg of FSH in decreasing dose plus 250 µg of GnRH given at the time of estrous, because it was able to yield greater number of corpus luteum and embryos.     Until 2002, the level of protein consumption from red meat origin by the Indonesian people was only 51.5% from the national target. The reasons for this condition were due to limited resources of domesticated animals and low income of many suburb people to buy red mead. One alternative in supplying the gap of protein consumption is by utilizing local prospective wildlife animals, such as deer. This species is widely distributed among the islands in Indonesia. In order to understand more on the quality of tropical rusa venison (Cervus timorensis), a study was conducted in Palu district, Southeast Sulawesi by collecting venison from hunters. The results showed there was no significant difference on cooking lost among the carcass parts (hind leg, front leg and saddle), with the range between 30.3 to 33.0%. There were also no significant differences on the gross energy, protein, ash, fat and phosphor values among the carcass parts. The contents of sodium , ferum and calcium were significantly different at p9.5% DM), compared to other groups (<4.0% DM). In amino acid contents , it showed no interaction between the carcass parts to amino acid groups, however there was a significant difference among the amino acid groups. Glutamic acid had the highest level (15.74%DM), where as others were ranged between 2.7 to 7.6% DM.     Ginger (Kaempferia galanga L) Supplementation to Shorten Broiler Production Period

    Consumers increasingly prefer to buy broiler weighted approximately one kg.  In this study broiler chicks were feed with commercial diet, which composed from corn, soybean, fishmeal, rice bran, dicalcium phosphate, vitamins minerals mixture (premix) and palm oil. The diet contained approximately 20.33 % of crude protein and 3100 Kcal/kg of metabolizable energy.  The ginger meal was mixed into the diet according to the treatments i.e P1 (0 %), P2 (0.02%), P3 (0.04 %), P4 (0.08 %) and P5 (0.16 %). The results showed that the total feed intake of P5 (1,808.4 g) and P2 (1,846.5 g) was significantly (P<0.05) less than those of P1 (1,966.5 g). Birds of P5 achieved one kg body weight within 26 days, P2 (27 days) and P3 (27 days) was significantly (P<0.05) less than those compared with birds of P4 (29 hari) and P1 (30 hari). The feed conversion of P5 (1.81) was also better than (P<0.05) that of P1 (1.97), while the Income over Feed and Chick Cost was Rp 1,658.78 (P5); Rp 1,568.06 (P2); Rp 1,426.54 (P3);   Rp 1,280.45 (P1) and Rp 1,195.95 (P4).     The Effect of Mineral Addition in Fermentation of Sorghum Grain with Tempeh Yeast on Nutrient Digestibility in Layer Chicken

    The aim of the research was to study nutrient digestibility of fermented sorghum added with Ramos mineral in layer chicken. The experiment was in vivo using a Completely Randomised Design with 4 treatments.  Each treatment has 5 replicates. The feed was given by force feeding method. Results showed that TO, T1, T2, and T3 have no significant effects (P>0.05) on the digestibility of crude protein, fat, and fiber. The digestibility of crude protein was 80.83%; 74.97%; 77.16% and 75.98%; fat: 77.40%; 79.14%; 85.19% and 86.07%; and fiber: 76.74%; 73.10%; 72.57% and 79.52%, for TO, T1, T2, and T3, respectively. In conclusion, addition of Ramos mineral in sorgum grain fermented with tempe yeast resulted in similar crude protein, fat and fat digestibility by layer chicken.
