Effective Used of Oncom Tofu By-Product as a Broiler Chicken Feedstuff
A research was conducted to know affectivity of “oncom†of tofu by-product as a broiler chicken feedstuff, was done at Poultry Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Diponegoro University Semarang, from September until October 2002. Sixty broiler chick strain Arbor Acres at 1 week old, unsex with initial body weidht 120.08±15.58 g was used. Homogeneity test of material used Barlet Test consider of Sudjana (1996). The chicks was postal house litter system with long and wide 10 x 6 m2, open walls and roof from “gentingâ€. The house was divided on 20 pen with bamboo stick by 1 x 0.75 x 0.75 m3 per pen. House was comleted by feeder and waterer, brooder and scale triple-beam “O Haustâ€. Tofu by-product was fermented by “oncom†yeast consist of Neurospora sp. Experimental feed based on yellow corn, rice polished, soybean, fish meal and mineral mix and tofu by-product. The feed was formulated with same protein and energy (equal protein and equal energy). The feed for first period with 22% protein and 2.900 kcal/kg, will the feed for last period with 20% protein and 3.000 kcal/kg. The treatment are tofu by-product fermentation as follow : T0, T1, T2 and T3 are 0, 10, 15 and 20% respectively. The parameters were feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, last body weight and carcass percentage. The Completely Randomized Design was used as Experiment design, consist of 4 treatment with 5 replication each, and every experimental unit consist of 3 birds. The data was analyzed by Analysis of Variace (ANOVA) using F-test to know effect of treatment. If there is significantly affected by treatment continued by Multiple Range Test by Duncan (Srigandono, 1989). The experiment result shown that feed consumption, body weight gain, last body weight, carcass weight and carcass percentage significantly (P<0.05) increase, will feed conversion ratio significantly (P<0.05) decrease by tofu by-product fermented with “oncom’ yeast in the ration. The experiment result can be concluded that tofu by-product fermented with “oncom†yeast was effective as a feedstuff of broiler chicks until 20% in the rations. Influence of Duration period of Fattening Average Daily Gain and Fatty Acids Composition of Brahman Cross Cattle
One hundred and eighty castrated male of Brahman Cross cattle ,2 to 2.50 years old with initial body weight of 341.50± 18.20 kg, were used in this research to study the effect of duration period of fattening on average daily gain and fatty acids composition of meat. They were grouped randomly into three : 2 months ( group A),3 months (group B) and 4 months ( group C) of fattening of each group consisted of three pens of 20 heads respectively. The diet was composed of 15 percent of king grass ,80 percent of concentrate and 5 percent of waste product of fermented beer and given ad libitum as total mixed ration. Feed intake was controlled every day, were as weighting was done monthly. Meat samples for analyses of fatty acids composition and were taken from Longisimus dorsi and collected from 6 cattle as a replication for each treatment. All data collected were analysed by analysis of variance using completely Randomized Design (CRD). Treatment were compared using Least Significant Difference (LSD).ADG in group C (0,75 kg ) was significantly higher (P < 0,05) than in group A (0,08 kg ) and B (0,82 kg ) and three was not difference between A and B . Meat fat content and percentage of saturated fatty acids were significantly higher (P< 0,05 ) in group C (12.53 percent ; 43.16 percent ) than in group A (5.31 percent ; 38.43 percent ) and in group B (5,27 percent ; 38.05 percent ). On the contrary, the percentage of unsaturated fatty acids was significantly (P < 0,05) lower (C: 56.76 percent ) than other group ( A : 61.70 percent and B : 61.95 percent). The Viability of the Stallion Spermatozoa after Centrifugation with Different Level of Seminal Plasma in Skim Milk Extender
The objective of the research was to evaluate the speed and duration of centrifugation and seminal plasma levels on the viability of stallion spermatozoa.  Semen was collected from three stallions twice a week. The collected semen then evaluated macro- and microscopically.  Exp I, the semen was diluted 1:1 with skim milk extender and then centrifuged at 2000 and 3000 rpm for 15 and 20 minutes each. The seminal plasma was removed, and the sperm pellet was re-diluted with skim milk extender. The extended semen then divided in two tubes, stored in 5oC and in a room temperature.  The semen then was examined every 3 hours for room temperature and 12 hours for 5oC.  Exp II, the semen diluted 1:1 with skim milk extender and then centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes. The seminal plasma was removed and the pellet was re-diluted with skim milk extender consisted of 0%, 25%, 50% and 75% of the seminal plasma. The extended semen then was stored in 5oC and examined daily.  Results showed that speed and duration of centrifugation had no effect on the quality of stallion semen. The liquid semen without seminal plasma showed 47.50% motile sperms and 61.00% life sperms, wich were significantly higher (P<0.05) than those with seminal plasma. It was concluded that the speed and duration of centrifugation had no effect on the semen quality and removal of seminal plasma is beneficial for stallion spermatozoa. Milk Yield and Quality of Etawah Cross Bred Goat Fed Legume based Diet with Urea Molasses Block and or Rice Bran Supplement at Early Lactation
The current experiment aimed to determine milk yield and its quality of the Etawah cross bred goat fed with diet supplemented with urea molasses block (UMB) and or rice bran, were conducted for 8 weeks of early lactation period. Four lactating goats with average body weight of 44 kg were used and allocated into 4 dietary treatment groups in a Cross Over Design. Group A: basal diet (50% Gliricidia sepium leaves (GS) + 50% Hibiscus tilliacius leaves (HT)) as control; B: diet A + 75 g (2.58%) UMB; C: diet A + 500 g (14.44%) rice bran; and D: diet A+75 g (2.31%) UMB + 500g (14.33%) rice bran. Â Each doe was subjected to all 4 treatments diet and every 2 weeks of rotation period of the treatment were given 4 days of rest. Â The goats were hand milked twice daily following injection of oxytocin (0.5 I.U). Â Daily milk yield was measured and aliquots of milk were taken for milk quality (chemical and physical) analysis. Â Results showed that supplementation of urea molasses block and or rice bran on legume-based diet in early lactation significantly improved both milk yield and its quality (P<0.01). Â The highest increament of milk yield was achieved by goat D, which was of 0.551 vs. 0.408 l/d compared to the control goat (A). Milk protein and milk dry matter were also highest in goat D which was 4.97 vs. 4.17% and 17.83 vs. 16.18% respectively. However, the highest milk fat content was obtained from goat C (5.46 vs. 5.05%) and the lowest was obtained from goat B (4.64 vs. 5.05%) compared to the control goat (A). Feeding Complete Feed Containing Different Acidogenic Value and Effective Fiber Affect Rumen Acidosis Depression
Digestibility of Nutrients on Broiler Given Various Protein Sources and Two Levels of Quebracho Tannin
The Effect of Natuzyme in the Diets Containing Non-Starch Polysaccharides on Meat Quality of Native Chicken
Abstract. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the use of Natuzyme in feed containing non-starch polysaccharides on the quality of chicken meat. Materials used were 71 native hens of 18 week-old. The experiment was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD), 3 x 3 factorial pattern. Each treatment was repeated three times and was tested further with Duncan t test. The first treatment was the use of non-starch polysaccharides (R) with the levels of 0, 5 and 10%. The second treatment was the use of Natuzyme (S) with the levels of 0, 0.1 and 0.2%. The variables measured were: energy consumption, fat consumption, carcass weight, meat glycogen, meat fat, and cholesterol of meat. The results showed that the treatments did not significantly affect energy consumption, fat consumption, carcass weight and fat content of meat. The use of non-starch polysaccharides did not significantly affect the levels of meat glycogen, while the use of Natuzyme significantly affected the levels of meat cholesterol. The conclusion is that the Natuzyme only works on feedstuffs, not in the chicken digestive tract. The sources of non-starch polysaccharide in feedstuffs can be used as an energy source for chickens until a level of 10%.Key Words: Natuzyme, non-starch polysaccharides, meat qualit
National Breeding System of Dairy Cattle Husbandry
The husbandry of domestic dairy cattle as one of the components of livestock sub-sector development is hopefully to increase numerously the capacity and the quality on its milk production, to gradually meet national milk demand and face the competitiveness at the global. The achievement of this purpose should be supported by the production of dairy breeding stock in good quality and sufficient number to increase efficiency of both quantity and quality of domestic milk production. One of important aspect that should be prepared is in determining national breeding system of dairy cattle that can function effectively as guidance and regulation for producing, distributing, and using dairy cattle as “domestic breeding stockâ€. As in other livestock, breeding system of dairy cattle basically constituted of three main subsystems, i.e. production , distribution and marketing, and quality establishment subsystem. The paper discusses some aspects of these three subsystems to give considerable input in preparing the national concept of dairy cattle breeding system. enterprise (Animal Production 1(2): 43-55 (1999) KeyWords: dairy cattle, breeding stock, milk production

Brand Evaluation and Consumers' Preference towards Pioneer and Follower Brands: Empirical Study on Dairy Products
Abstract. The aims of this research were to identify brand recall as well as to analyze consumers’ attitude and consumers’ preference toward pioneer and follower brands on processed dairy product. One hundred and fifty housewives were engaged as respondents in this research. The techniques used in the data analysis were non parametric two related sample test, one sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The result indicated that each of the product category, the percentage of the pioneer brand preference was higher than follower brand, namely Ultra Milk (87.30%), Yakult (94.70%), Anlene (93.30%) and Kraft (98.70%). The result showed that from 150 respondents were able to correctly recall Ultra Milk (66.70%), Yakult (86.70%), Anlene (82.70%) and Kraft (96.00%) as the pioneer brand on each product category. Furthermore, the results showed that the average consumer attitudes were higher toward the pioneer brands than the follower brands. The result also indicated that consumers preferred pioneer brands than follower brands for the same flavour, quality and price. The result led to conclusion that consumers retrieved or recalled pioneer brands more correctly than follower brands. Moreover, consumers had a more favourable attitude to pioneer brands than to follower brands, in which consumers preferred to purchase the pioneer brands products to those of the follower brands concerning the farm-manufactured products of UHT milk, pro-biotic milk, high-calcium milk and cheese.Key Words: brand retrieval, brand recall, attitudes, preferenc
