    Factor Endowment of Dairy and Non-Dairy Farmers in Banyumas Region

    Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kondisi factor pendukung usaha oleh peternak sapi perah pada tiga tipe rumah tangga petani-peternak, yakni petani-peternak yang memiliki skala usaha sapi perah yang kecil, yang lebih besar, dan yang tidak memiliki sapi perah. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode survey pada delapan desa terpilih, kemudian 80 responden dipilih secara acak sebagai sample yang berasal dari kedelapan desa tersebut. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan analitis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai paddy-land ratio lebih tinggi pada petani-peternak sapi perah. Meskipun jumlah pemilikan lahan sama, namun petani yang tidak memiliki sapi perah memiliki lahan padi yang lebih luas. Peternak yang memiliki sapi perah lebih banyak, menggunakan tenaga kerja keluarga yang lebih banyak pula.     The Effect of Eggs Shape Index on Embryo on Mortalities, Unhatched Eggs and Day Old duck Abnormalities of Selected and Control Tegal Duck

    An experiment was conducted to study the effect of eggs shape index on embryo mortalities, unhatched egg and day old duck abnormalities of selected and control Tegal duck. A total of 1428 fertile eggs obtained from a selected duck group and a control group were divided in to 3 group according to their eggs shape index (ESI), i.e. small (ESI ,79 percent), medium ( ESI ,82 percent ) and large (ESI ,85 percent ). The ESI was measured as a ratio of wide and length of eggs and percentage. Three batches of incubation with 7 day interval were carried out as replicates. Parameter measured were embryo mortalities, number of unhatched eggs and number of abnormal day old duck. Candling of eggs were performed at 6, 14 and days of incubation and mortalities of embryo were detected by loup. Results of the experiment showed that lowest embryos mortalities was occurred on medium eggs (24 percent) and significantly ( p< 0,05 ) affected by eggs size. Abnormal DOD from medium eggs was significantly (p ,0,05 ) lower (13 percent ) than the small (23 percent ) and large (21 percent ) eggs. Similar trends on eggs from selected duck and control ducks. This may be due to short term of selection program and young age of the female duck (24 weeks ). These results conclude that medium eggs (ESI ,82 percent) were the best size for hatching eggs.     Crude Protein and Crude of Fiber Benggala [Panicum Maximum] and Elephant [Pennisetum Purpureum] Grasses on Drought Stress Condition

    Knowledge of crop response to water is essential for  proper irrigation management. Research  was conducted at Forage Crop Laboratory of Animal Nutrition Department, Faculty Of Animal Husbandry, Diponegoro University  during 9 month  trying two type grass that  were benggala ( Panicum maximum) and elephant  ( Pennisetum purpureum) with treatment of the following dry stres : S0 = control, without  stress; S1 =  1 times drought stress,  S2 =  2 times drought stress  , and S3 =  3 times  drought stress by lay out of complete random design( factorial pattern). Parameter perceived were( 1) forage production , (2) dry matter production, (3) percentage of crude protein, and (4) percentage of crude fibre. Data collected to be analysed  by analysis of varians  continued with Duncan multiple range test. Result of research indicate that forage production of  elephant grass  (103,79 g/pot) bigger than  benggala (53,08 g/pot). Dry matter production of elephant grass was   18,77 g/pot  higher than  benggala  grass( 14,54 g/pot).  Drought stres do not affect to forage  production  also  dry matter production : Percentage of crude protein  of  benggala grass (9,10%) higher than elephant grass (7,02%), while percentage crude fibre of benggala grass (35,64%) higher than elephant grass (31,67%). Drought stres do not influence percentage of crude protein  and crude fibre of benggala and elephant grasses. Conclusion from research were (1) elephant grass  have higher forage production  and  dry matter production than benggala grass (2) percentage of crude protein and crude fibre of benggala grass  higher  than elephant grass, (3) drought stres do not  affect to forage production , dry matter production, percentage of crude protein  and crude fibre.     The Effect of Testosterone Hormone and Age on Muscle Development of Kacang Doe

    A total of 40 Kacang does with average initial body weight (BW) of 10.2 kg were used in factorial experiment (4x2) based on completely randomized design (CRD) to determine muscle development. The first factor was the doses of testosterone consisted of four levels, i.e.: control (t0);  0.77 (t1);  1.54 (t2); and 2.31 (t3) mg/kg BW.  The second factor was the age of does, i.e.: 7-8 month (u1) and  9-12 month (u2).  So that there were eight combinations of treatments, each was replicated five times.  Animals in treatment group were injected with testosterone propionate (TP) weekly for 90 days. They were fed on ration to gain 50 g/day. Variables observed were the number of fibril in longissimus dorsi and rectus femoris (pc/100m), the weight of longissimus dorsi and rectus femoris muscles, and Loin Eye Area (cm2). There was significant interaction between doses and age on the fibril number of longissimus dorsi and rectus femoris muscle, and also Loin Eye Area.  The best result was showed by the combination treatment of t1 andu1. Testosterone propionate injection did not significantly affect the weight of longissimus dorsi and rectus femoris muscles. Meanwhile, age significantly influenced weight of longissimus dorsi muscle only. In conclusion, injection of 0.77 mg/kg BW/day TP to does with 7-8 month of age showed the best result on muscle mass.     The aim of this research was to know the effect of vitamin E supplementation in the ration containing manhadden fish oil and kernel palm oil on fertility, hatchability and hatch weight of  native chicken egg. The research was done in Experimental Sub-station Faculty of Animal Sciences UNSOED, Purwokerto. The experiment was conducted from April to November 2005. Material used in this experiment was 48 chicken females (pullets) of 22 weeks old which reared intensively up to 48 weeks old and 20 cockerels as semen sources for artificial insemination. A Completely Randomized Design with 6 replicates for each treatment was used. Rations were formulated as follow: R0 = Control / basal feed + Vitamin E 0 mg/kg in feed;    R1 =  basal feed +  Vitamin E 10 mg/kg in feed; R2 = basal feed +  Vitamin E 20 mg/kg in feed; R3 = basal feed +  Vitamin E 30 mg/kg in feed.   Results indicated that the used of vitamin E  of 30 mg/kg in feed containing  5% manhadden fish oil and 5% kernel palm oil improved chicken fertility by 76.69% to 87.07%.     Skin Colour, Abdominal Fat, and Carcass Fat of Male Alabio Duck (Anas plathyrhincos Borneo) Fed Azolla Based Ration

    This was conducted to know the effect of Azzola usage in their dietary toward skin color abdomen fat and carcass fat of male Alabio duck. The subject of this research was male Alabio duck attain the age 3 weeks as number 80 tails, with average first body weight 390,82 ± 0,63 g.  The dietary contain 16% protein and 3000 kcal energy.  Observation parameters including abdomen fat percentage, carcass fat, and skin color. Complete Random Design (RAL) consist of 4 treatments and 5 repeating was applied.  Each treatment unit consisted of 4 tails of male Alabio duck.  Set as treatment was levels of Azzola pinnata flour usage as much as 0 (A0); 7.5 (A2); 15 (A3); and 22.5% (A4).  The effect of treatment towards abdomen fat (A0, A1, A2, and A3 / 1.50; 1.41; 1.23; 0.92 %), carcass fat (A0, A1, A2, and A3 / 7.99; 7.53; 5.74; 5.25 %), and skin color (A0, A1, A2, and A3 / 2.66; 3.62; 3.94; 4.20).  this research showed result of that treatment influence was significantly difference (P < 0.05).   Conclusion of this research, that azolla usage within dietary is able to decrease abdomen fat degree and carcass fat, reform skin color, thus, produce yellow color or un-pale.     Immunity Response of Gumboro and ND Vaccination Result which Given with Time Spacing in Broiler Chicken

    An experiment was planed to know  the possibility of negative effect on Gumboro vaccination program. This program has a possibility to cause “Sick†condition on fabrious bursal of broiler chicken. From that case, it need time spacing for subsequent vaccination program, for instance ND vaccination program.  Time spacing is very importance to broiler chicken for recovering that “Sick†condition because of Gumboro vaccination effect. The purpose of his research was to know the best time spacing between Gumboro and ND vaccination program on broiler chicken. An experimental  method was used in this research, and the material used was 216 broiler chickens. A 3x4 factorial arrangement (Gumboro vaccination as factor A and ND vaccination  as factor B) with three broiler chickens per unit and six replicates of each treatment combination was used in the  research. Variables tested of  this experiment HI ND antibody titer, body weight  of 4 weeks old, and the symptom appeared after vaccination program. Anava was used to analyze the data obtained and used orthogonal polynomial for subsequent analysis. The research  results showed that the best time spacing was eight days and there was no symptom  appeared after  Gumboro  vaccination program.     The Effects of Mimosa Tannin on the Protein Precipitation in Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) and Protein Solubility in the Rumen of Cattle (Bos indicus)

    Suatu studi dilakukan untuk menentukan apakah penambahan mimosa tannin pada daun Gliricidia yang ditumbuk dapat merangsang pembentukan ikatan tannin dan protein sehingga dapat melindungi degradasi protein oleh bakteri rumen. Daun Gliricidia yang telah ditumbuk, diberi perlakuan penambahan 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 dan 15% mimosa tannin, kemudian dibiarkan selama 0, 3, 6, 12 dan 24 jam. Selanjutnya, bahan tersebut diekstrak menggunakan 70% acetone dan kandungan protein yang terikat diukur dengan metoda radial diffusion assay. Percobaan kecernaan protein in situ menggunakan 4 ekor sapi berfistula, dilakukan untuk membandingkan derajat proteksi protein pada tumbukan daun Gliricidia dan Leucaena yang diberi perlakuan 0, 3 dan 6% mimosa tannin dan dibiarkan selama 1 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tumbukan daun Gliricidia yang diberi perlakuan mimosa tannin lebih dari 3% mampu menghasilkan pengikatan protein. Kadar pengikatan protein tertinggi tercatat setelah 6 jam waktu inkubasi dan cenderung menurun setelah itu. Percobaan kecernaan protein in situ menunjukkan bahwa tumbukan daun Gliricidia dengan perlakuan 6% mimosa tannin mempunyai kecernaan protein terendah di dalam rumen yakni 13.31%, dibandingkan dengan 22.38 dan 26.60% pada tumbukan daun Gliricidia dengan perlakuan 0 dan 3% mimosa tannin. Demikian pula nilai efektif degradasi terendah pada k=0.02 adalah tumbukan daun Gliricidia dengan perlakuan 6% mimosa tannin. Hasil penelitian ini menyarankan bahwa kandungan protein pada daun Gliricidia dapat diikat dengan 6% mimosa tannin dan selanjutnya dapat melindungi kandungan protein dari fermentasi mikroba rumen.     The Effect of Supplementation Urea and Sulfur in Mixed Cassava Waste Fermented and Soyabean Cake Waste on Digestibility of Protein and Blood Urea Male Sheep

    Eighteen local male sheep were divided into 3 groups I,II and III based on the body weight 18.55±1.27, 15.79±0.67 and 13.14±1.33 kg respectively. Two level urea (2 and 3%) and three levels Sulfur (0.02 and 0.3%) as treatment, so pattern factorial 2x3 with Randomized Block Design used this experiment. All of the treatment get a same basal feed namely land-grass and concentrate with dry matter ratio 70:30.  The total intake of  dry matter was 4 % of body weight. The concentrate consist of cassava waste fermented  and soyabean cake waste with dry matter  ratio 77.50 : 22.50. Supplementation of urea and sulfur shown not significant interaction, but supplementation urea had effect high significantly (P<0.01) on digestibility of protein and sulfur only had effect significant  (P<0.05) on blood urea. These result had indication that enriched urea in the diet could increase protein digestibility and sulfur level 0.2% could prevent NH3 absorption from rumen.     Success Rate of Pregnancy and Gender Accuracy as The Result of Artificial Insemination by Using Froozen Semen Sexing on Ongole Hybrid Cattle

    This research is meant to recognize the difference among pregnancy rate, service per-conseption (S/C) and pregnancy rate of the first Artificial Insemination  or conseption rate (CR) and also calf sex accuracy which is born from Ongole hybrid cattle (PO) through Artificial Insemination with froozen semen deposition resulted from different consentration sexing at the position 4 (korpus uteri) and 4+ (bottom end of kornua uteri).  The result of this research shows that Artificial Insemination at the position 4 and 4+ with spermatozoa X: pregant 60% (from 10 cattles); CR for each 50%; S/C : 2.00 and 1.83; IB with spermatozoa Y equivalent 80% while S/C 1.42 and 1.25.
