    The Use of Pacific Menhaden Oil and Palm Oil on Lipid Metabolism Profile in Blood Serum of Native Cockerels

    Cholesterol is an important component of cell membrane, plasma lipoprotein and precursor of steroid synthesis in biologically crucial bile salt and steroid hormones.  Cholesterol level in the blood exceeding the 300 mg/100 ml can result in the incident of cardiac disorder. Cholesterol, HDL (High Density of Lipoprotein), LDL (Low Density of Lipo protein) biosynthesis in the blood plasma of broiler chicken can be manipulated by the use of Pacific Menhaden Oil and Palm Oil.  Therefore, The aim of the current experiment was to investigate the effect of  long chain fatty acid from Pacific Menhaden Oil (PMO) and Palm Oil (PO) use in feed on the blood level of cholesterol, HDL and LDL of native cockerels. Four kinds of ration which contained different levels of PMO and PO were formulated.  They were R0 (control, without PMO and PO); R1 (10% PO); R2  (10% PMO) and R3 (5% PMO and 5% PO).  A total of 72 native cockerels, aged two weeks were kept in 24 pens, three cockerels in each pen.  Each experimental unit were assingned at random to receive one of the four rations in completely randomized designed with six replicates. The use of PMO and PO in feed did not significantly affect (P>0.05) the concentration of cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglyceride in the blood.  Although statistically was not significantly significant, Cockerels fed R2 had the highest concentration of HDL (39.36 mg/dl) and the lowest concentration of LDL (9.10) in the blood.     Effect of Specific Lactate Dehydrogenase Antigen from Sheep with Different Prolific Type on Hematology and Antibody Responses of Chicken

    Maternal serum of thirty nine ewes were used to study hematological and antibody responses of chicken injected with antigen protein of specific LDH obtained from sheep with different littersizes (prolific type). The prolific type of ewes was determined base on littersize (LS), which were low ( 1 ≤  LS ≤ 1.5), medium ( 1.5 2.0). There were ten ewes carrying specific LDH protein. The number of animals of low, medium, and high prolific-type ewes was 3, 5, and 2 heads, respectively. The serum was used to produce antigen and injected to chicken to promote antibody production of anti LDH. The results of research showed that different prolific-type has no significant (P>0.05) effects on hematological and antibody titer of chicken.  However, hematological status of chicken injected with specific LDH antigen was significantly (P<0.05) higher than control. It can be concluded that production of specific protein anti LDH can be done in layer by injection of antigen from ewes. Product of specific protein anti LDH of prolific ewes still needs field test for its accuracy for selection of ewes with different prolific type.     Effect of Supplementation of Branched Chain Fatty Acid on Colony of Ruminal Bacteria and Cell of Protozoa

    A study was conducted to evaluate the potential of branched-chain volatile fatty acids (isobutyric, α-methylbutyric and β-methylbutiric) that supplemented into the diet on the colony of ruminal bacteria and the cell of protozoa population. Five progeny Friesian Holstein males with initial weight 348±29 kg were used in a 5x5 Latin square design (30-d periods). The basal diet composed of 55% forage and 45% concentrate containing 10.5 MJ ME/kg and 15% crude protein (CP).  There were five dietary treatments where A: basal diet, B: A+139 mg urea/kg W0.75, C: B+28 mg CaSO4/kg W0.75, D: C+0.05 mM isobutyric acid+0.05 mM β-methylbutyric acid, and E: D+0.05 mM α-methylbutyric acid.  Rearing period was 30 days, consists of feed adaptation period 20 days, then growth observation was done within the last 10 days. Collection of ruminal fluid was done within the last day of observation period, and took 3-4 h after the feeding.  The results showed that supplementation branched chain volatile fatty acids did not significant affect on the number of colonies of bacteria and protozoa population, but the significant effect (P<0.05) on the concentration of branched chain volatile fatty acids in the rumen fluid. The supplementation of α-methylbutyric (P <0.05) decreased of concentration of isobutyric and isovaleric in rumen fluid than the other treatments. It is concluded that supplementation of branched chain volatile fatty acids not used by rumen bacteria for their growth but for the elongation of fatty acid synthesis. The supplementation of branched chain volatile fatty acids was 0.05 mM not enough strong influence on the growth of colony of rumen bacteria.     The Histological of Ewe Ovarium Post-Intrauterine Transplantation to Pseudopregnancy Rabbit

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the histologycal of ewe ovarium post-intrauterin transplantation to pseudopregnancy rabbit. The experiment was concerned with the 1 or 7 days of pseudopregnancy to receive the ewe ovarian transplant. Post transplantation 5, 7 or 9 days of ewe ovarium were recollected. To determine histologically post-intrauterine transplantation of ewe ovarium, the histological preparat was prepared by the paraffin methods followed by HE staining. The result showed that there were follicle development with all stages of follicle dynamics (Primordial, Primary, Prentral and Antral follicle stages) in all group of treatment. The ewe ovarian post-intrauterine transplantation damaged was found as follicles degeneration, ephitellial damaged and the formation of protein aggregate. It can be concluded that the histological of ewe ovarium post-intrauterine transplantation in pseudopregnancy rabbit is still good in the 5 or 7 days after intrauterine transplantation in pseudopregnancy rabbit.     Financial Analysis of Dairy Cattle Farm on the Farming Company Level

    This research was conducted to evaluate the feasibility level of dairy cattle farm on the farming company level especially from the financial aspects. Research was carried out from March to July 2003 in Rumeksa Mekaring Sabda dairy cattle farm company, Argomulyo District, Salatiga. Case study was used as research method. Collected data was tabulated and analyzed using financial analysis criteria (Return On Investment, Payback Period, Net Present Value, Benefit Cost Ratio and Internal Rate of Return). The result showed that ROI (20.44%) is higher than deposit interest  rate (8%). The length of payback period (3 years and 6 months) is faster than maximum period that was predicted by the company (5 years). NPV (Rp. 45,565,585.16) and BC Ratio (1.42) have positive and higher value (more than 1), respectively. IRR’s value (38.45%) is higher than credit interest rate (18%). Based on the results, it can be concluded that the company is feasible enough to continue the operational project.     Blood Plasma Hormone Testosterone Level and Sperm Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Quality caused by Lemuru Fish and Palm Oil

    The research was conducted to know the effect of  lemuru fish oil (LFO) and palm oil (PO) on blood plasma testosterone and sperms quality of quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The experiment used 15 male quails of  12 weeks of age. The birds were divided into 5 feeding treatments, which were; R-0 (control), R-1 (3% LFO), R-2 (6% LFO), R-3 (3% PO) and R-4 (6% PO). Data on testosterone level and semen quality (sperm motility, sperm morfology, sperm viability and sperm concentration) were analyzed quantitavely. Results showed that testosterone level of birds given 6% LFO was significantly higher than those given 6% PO (4.92 vs 2.44 ng/ml). Feeding birds with 6% LFO or 3% PO resulted in good quality of sperms as indicated by sperm motility (78.30 and 78.30%), viability (73.19 and 86.06%) and concentration (250.00 and 255.30  x109/ml).  In conclusion, feeding quails with 6% LFO or 3% PO were able to increase level of testosterone, HDL, LDL and sperm quality.     An experiment was conducted the quality of rice straw by fermented with manure as feed for ruminant. Materials used in this experiment were rice straw , manure and molasses. Four treatments rice straw + 3% molasses, B= rice straw + 3% molasses +30% manure. Parameters observed were  organoleptic character , pH, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber ( NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF). The result of this experiment suggested that rice straw treated with manure 20% and 30% increased is crude protein and descreased its NDF and ADF.     Performance of growing male quails under different Complete Feeds and Floor Sorts

    A research entitled “Performance of Growing Male Quails Under Different Complete Feeds and Floor Sorts†has been conducted in experimental farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Unsoed  Purwokerto.  The objective of the study is to find out the best floor sort and complete feed for performance of growing male quails. One hundred and fifty male quails at three weeks old were used in this study. Split Plot Design were used in this research. Floor sorts  were used as  maintreatments and they consists of L1 (litter floor) and L2 (wire floor) Complete feeds were used as subtreatment and they consists of  P1 (AD 51), P2 (CP 511), P3(B 11) and P4 (BR 1). Deck levels were used as deck  andT1 (high), T2 (meden) and T3 (low deck). Statistical analyses showed that complete feeds had significant effect (P<0.05) on feed consumption but not significant on body weight, growth and feed conversion. Floor sorts and their interaction  with the complete feeds  had not significant on the performance of the birds. It can be conclused that during growing period, P1 (AD 51) gave better performance and for floor shorts, either litter or wire can be used to growing male quails.     Carcass Evaluation of Crossbred Betweeen Cockerel Kampung Chicken and Layer Hen

    The research was conducted to the characteristics of carcass evaluate crossbred between cockerel of kampung chicken and Lohman layer hen. Sixteen crossbred chickens and 16 kampung chickens were reared under a similar management from 2 - 12 weeks old. The chickens were given a commercial feed which contains 21% crude protein at 2 - 4 week old, and 14% crude protein and metabolizable energy 2800 kcal/kg at 4 - 12 weeks old. The data of carcass weight, rear back weight, fore back weight, breast weight, and thigh weight were collected. Meat and bone on breast and thigh were separated. The results showed that with under similar management and feeding, the carcass values of crossbred chicken were not significantly different with kampung chicken. The crossbred chickens have meat production rate of 2.83 times as compared to kampung chicken. Higher crude protein than 14% with a balance metabolizable energy will increase the quantity and quality of crossbred chicken carcass.
