La generosidad en el Cantar de Mio Cid
Get PDFThis article attempts to analyze how the characters in the Cantar de Mio Cid show their psychological features by behaving differently from the rest according to their level of generosity. On the other hand, the existence of greedy characters implies the presence of conflicts with the generous ones, a clash which breaks the equilibrium between the good and evil forces that appear in the poem. The king, who is the most powerful entity in the Cantar, holds the power to give the greatest of all presents –Justice–, and will give the Cid his reward after all his efforts.Este artículo tratará de analizar cómo los personajes del Cantar de Mio Cid muestran sus características psicológicas actuando de modo diferente al resto de personajes de acuerdo con su nivel de generosidad. Por otro lado, la existencia de personajes codiciosos implica la presencia de conflictos con los generosos, un choque que rompe el equilibrio entre las fuerzas buenas y maléficas que aparecen en el poema. El rey, que es la entidad más poderosa del Cantar, tiene la potestad de dar el mayor de los regalos –la Justicia–, y la entregará al Cid como recompensa tras todos sus esfuerzos
Encuentros y desencuentros con la modernidad antiesclavista: recepción y estrategias de difusión del Tratado de legislación de Charles Comte en Cuba
Get PDFThis article deals with the challenges of the reception and diffusion strategies within the Cuban reformist elite between 1834 and 1837 of French publicist Charles Comte’s Legislation Treaty (1827). The translation and edition project regarding this work bearer of mo-dernity and radical values gives a singular approach to the tensions that were shaking the Spanish slave colony. Furthermore, this piece of work allows to measure the distance between Comte´s ethical principles and the “horizon of expectations” of his readers in Cuba and shows how several colonial letrados acted as agents of a restraint ideological mediation.This article deals with the challenges of the reception and diffusion strategies within the Cuban reformist elite between 1834 and 1837 of French publicist Charles Comte’s Legislation Treaty (1827). El proyecto de traducción y edición de esta obra portadora de modernidad y de valores radicales brinda un enfoque singular sobre las tensiones que agitaban la colonia esclavista. Además, permite medir la distancia entre los principios éticos de Comte y el “horizonte de expectativas” de sus lectores en Cuba y mostrar cómo algunos letrados coloniales fueron los agentes de una mediación ideológica refrenada
