INFORMATION -- NEW CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY OR COMPLETED DURING
THE YEAR -- FINANCIAL REPORT --
The 1972-73 fiscal year was a period of curricular expansion and
program development for Brunswick Junior College. This period was
characterized by considerably more than the usual activity in curricular
development and other areas of institutional endeavors...The new vocational-technical
programs which were initiated in January, 1972, have grown from
one course (Data Processing) enrolling 30 students to a total of six
programs enrolling 168 students. (Data Processing,
Medical Laboratory Technology, Drafting and Design Technology,
Marketing and Management, Clerical Science, and Welding). --
Plans for curriculum expansion next year, 1973-74 --
There were two significant events related to library services 1. the
long-awaited move into the new library facility. 2. the acquisition of a very valuable collection
of historical documents pertaining to the history of Fort Frederica and
the coastal area of Georgia. -- Task force to study impact of continuing education programs on surrounding community --

One of the challenges that must be met by the college
is the national trend, illustrated by increased attention to the external degree, toward increasing credit
for non-traditional educational experiences....
The addition of a number of vocational/technical programs
has caused serious crowding, which in turn has created
special difficulties for the vocational and technical
programs, as well as the programs in other divisions
of the college....
a substantial increase in the number of faculty and
students, but the diversity of academic programs has
increased considerably. During the past year there
were over 60 professional faculty and staff members
and the number will increase as the vocational/technical
faculty and staff personnel are added....
The turnover in maintenance, custodial, and security personnel has been reduced from the previous year but
still presents an expensive problem....
As a part.of the recruitment program, the Office of Student Affairs began last year (1970-71) administering
the Comparative Guidance and Placement Test (CGP) to all prospective students. The CGP is now an institutional requirement for admission and has been found
to be very effective in helping to place students in
developmental, beginning credit, or in advanced placement
for credit courses....
The faculty completed the Institutional Self-Study
for reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools during the
Spring Quarter, 1971
