FACULTY...STUDENTS...LIBRARY...COMPUTER...GIFTS AND GRANTS RECEIVED IN SUPPORT OF BRUNSWICK JUNIOR COLLEGE...GENERAL INFORMATION...NEW CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY OR COMPLETED DURING THE YEAR...FINANCIAL REPORT... Although the faculty spent a good bit of time in the early part of the year preparing for the visit from the Southern Association's Visiting Committee, the year has been unusually productive of curricular planning that would seem to make the curriculum more effective for a junior college, with its diverse student population and its task of providing meaningful general education.... Other changes in the instructional program tend to be more in the area of attitude and philosophy than in the area of formal modifications. In general, the change has been in the direction of a greater emphasis on helping students learn and be successful in college, rather than on screening out the unworthy.... ENROLLMENT BY YEARS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS. 1968-69 2849. 1969-70 4998. 1970-71 12586.... TWO efforts were made during the year to increase the professional awareness of the faculty and to keep them better informed about what is happening in higher education.... The nursing program continued to grow and to develop in both student enrollment and quality instruction.... The main academic difficulties have to do with problems involved in implementing new and non-traditional teaching methods. During the past year a number of faculty members have become very much interested in some of the newer approaches to teaching that have been found to be successful, or at least promising, in junior colleges throughout the country

Developmental Studies Program: effort to secure additional financial support for this program, an application for a grant under Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965 was submitted during the fall quarter, 1969.... In general, the greatest academic difficulty is the lack of imagination, creativity, and innovation in teaching, and the lack of vigor in developing strategies for making the students' educational experiences more interesting, rewarding, and successful.... Through a terminal (I.B.M. 1050) our faculty and students will have access to the computer capacity of the University System including the computing centers at the three major institutions within the System. This local terminal will be used exclusively for instruction and research. The institution does not, however, have any electronic data processing equipment for use in unit records. This means that all student records (applications, registrations, transcripts, etc.) are processed manually

FACULTY...STUDENTS...LIBRARY...GENERAL INFORMATION...CONSTRUCTION AND GIFTS...FINANCIAL REPORT... As a community college, Brunswick Junior College provides several terminal programs for students who desire to complete one or two years of college and to seek immediate employment. Terminal programs include nursing, secretarial and clerical science, and chemical technology....During the 1968-69 academic year, the faculty added to the curriculum developmental courses in history and science and continued to offer developmental courses in reading, English, and mathematics....From the standpoint of student involvement, planning, and participation, a highlight of the student activities for the year was the Religion-In-Life Week sponsored by the religious clubs and planned by the Student Religion-In-Life Week Committee.... Although the faculty is extremely conscious of the need for a highly effective program in developmental studies as a basis for helping marginal students become successful, functioning, college level students, they do not seem to have a great deal of confidence in the present developmental program.... The difficulty... of maintaining a balanced faculty when the student body is small is one of the more serious difficulties we face... We have also some need for instruction in data processing and the use of computers in the business education department
