Among the most significant accomplishments of 1996-97 was the renaming of
Brunswick College to more accurately reflect both its comprehensive mission and
geographic location as "Coastal Georgia Community College". --
Another major accomplishment of the year has been the ongoing work of the local
P-16 Council organized in spring 1996 as a sub-unit of the Armstrong sponsored
Southeast Georgia P-16 Council. --
Revisions of the faculty evaluation instrument and process as well as the
administrative (EEO-1) evaluation instruments were begun with the intent to provide
linkage with merit salary increments as required by the Faculty and Staff
Development Policy Directive. --
Implementation of Banner was an outstanding success during the year. The Financial
Aid module, on-line academic advisement, plus the full Accounts Receivable module
were implemented with excellent results. --
A regional consortium will be formed which will enable connection with the enhanced Peachnet
internet "backbone" projected for completion in fall 1998. --
In Allied Health and Nursing 100% of the 1996 graduates were employed in their
fields which included Licensed Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology, Registered
Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Radiologic Technolog

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia fully accepted a gift of land for a permanent Camden Residence Center in Camden County. In spring 1996 the Coastal Georgia Community College P-16 Council was organized as a sub-unit of the Armstrong Atlantic State University regional P-16 Council. The College participated with Glynn, Mclntosh, and Camden counties in developing tech prep agreements which are designed to smooth the transition from high school vocational programs into post-secondary technical programs.The president was directly involved in establishing the first Academic All-American recognition program for Georgia students who had been nominated for the Gannett Foundation/USA Today sponsored Academic All-American competition.Full implementation of the new Student Information System BANNER has proceeded during this year.Actual work on the renovation of the Academic Building began in late April 1997

The overall state of the institution is that there is increased commitment to the
mission. The team concept is quite strong. Fiscally conservative approach to cope with the 3.5 percent EFT
enrollment decline. The institution is strong in student academic performance after transfer,
performance on licensure examinations, job placement, Regents Examination performance,
and in satisfaction with the institution. -- Personnel reductions may be necessary. --
Enrollment decline is a very serious economic issue. A renewed emphasis on retention of enrolled students and
a more aggressive recruitment program for new students have been implemented. --
In 1995-96 the total student enrollment included 1920, of which thirty-four percent
were full-time and sixty-six percent were part-time with an average age of 29 years. These
students were 24.1 percent minority African American, 2.7 percent other races, and 73.2%
Caucasian. The African American population in 1995-96 compares to 23.4 percent in 1994-
95. --
Office of the President: A common theme runs through the activities of the Office of the President during
this fiscal year: collaborative activities in building partnerships and positive relationships for
the college with schools, industries, communities, donors, and other University System and
DTAE institutions...The numerous collaborative
relationships which had been cultivated during the year in the normal course of conducting
college business proved extremely useful in building a base of support and understanding
of what it means to be a "community college.

A full vocational needs assessment was completed for Camden County. Programs were developed in Culinary Arts, Manufacturing Maintenance Technology, and Pulp and Paper Technology. A significant increase in fundraising activities occurred during this year with the total assets of Brunswick College Foundation reaching $1.2 million. Funds were received through the Equipment, Technology, and Construction Trust Fund to purchase equipment and automate the library’s card catalog. BANNER was installed and prepared for utilization in registering students in June 1995. The SGA served as the host college for the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities national conference in Savannah. Library staff were deeply engaged in planning for implementation of the "One University Library" initiative to be operative in the 1996 fiscal year

During the fall quarter the Board of Regents approved a cooperative degree arrangement between Brunswick College and Altamaha Technical Institute in Jesup. The courses for the certificate and for the associate of applied science degree were identified and the program layouts planned for the Pulp and Paper Technology program. During this academic year the renovation of the Student Center for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act has been completed. The impact of the Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) program from the Georgia Lottery continued to benefit numerous Brunswick College students in 1994-95. A carefully planned program of student recruitment has been carried out during this year. During this year the Cultural Affairs Committee has conducted 14 cultural affairs programs

The year 1994-95 at Brunswick College was one of careful awareness that the previous
three years of enrollment growth might not be sustained for the long term --
Mission Review process -- The technical and vocational program enrollments increased during the year with the
addition of a new sub-field in the Marketing and Management degree area to include a
culinary emphasis in Hospitality Management -- Student Development Services personnel demonstrated new approaches and a student
oriented philosophy to the campus, greatly strengthening the Student Development Services
functions -- Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act -- very positive state of the Allied Health and Nursing Programs --
personnel have involved themselves in annual giving to the college, achieving a level of 93%
in 1994-95. --
Coastal Georgia Minority Outreach Program was again very successful in reaching
eighty "at risk" middle school African American males most in danger of becoming drop
outs. --
Healthy state of the library and information services: Among the electronic improvements in the library are the preparation of ID
cards for students and staff using electronic barcodes, the barcoding of the entire collection,
the modification of the circulation system to utilize barcodes, and the placement of twentytwo
stand-alone computer workstations in the library for public use with each accessing a
word processing program and several CD-ROM databases. --
