Acculturation presents challenges for students from different regions, often leading to acculturative stress. This stress includes psychological, physical, and social difficulties related to adjusting to a new culture. This study examines the experiences of acculturative stress among students in Surabaya, utilizing a qualitative phenomenological approach and inductive thematic analysis. The research focuses on migrant students aged 18-25 from outside Java who are studying in Surabaya and have reported facing challenges during their cultural adaptation. To identify suitable participants, the researcher implemented screening using the Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) to setting a threshold score of 79 or above means that informan have acculturative stress. This process resulted in the selection of three research informants. The findings highlight three common forms of acculturative stress experienced by the informants: homesickness, shifts in social interaction cognition, and negative emotions characterized by a fear of going out at night. These results indicate that acculturative stress manifests across various domains, including emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects. Furthermore, the study identifies both external factors (such as social stressors, roles, economic conditions, and prior acculturation experiences) and internal factors (like psychological reactions after leaving home and individual characteristics) that influence this stress. Future research is encouraged to broaden the geographical scope of the study, serve as a foundation for psychological interventions, and inform campus policies aimed at supporting the mental health of out-of-town students.

    Get PDF
Transportation app companies have algorithmic control systems that determine driver performance. Many online motorcycle taxi drivers are affected by these systems so that they feel threatened, uncertain, and powerless in their jobs. This situation causes psychological insecurity, commonly referred to as job insecurity. Job insecurity is one of the strongest predictors of turnover intention, a worker's desire to quit independently or change professions, which reflects an individual's desire to leave the organization but has not yet done so. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of job insecurity on turnover intention among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Surabaya and its surroundings. The research method used is quantitative with simple regression analysis techniques. The subjects involved in this study were 168 respondents obtained by an accidental sampling method. The results of the study show a positive effect of job insecurity on turnover intention, meaning that job insecurity can be used as a predictor of turnover intention. The results of the influence test show an effective contribution of 43.1% (p < 0.05), with the equation value Y = 11.494 + 0.782x. The value of this equation means that the turnover intention variable will experience a score increase of 0.782 for every 1 increase in the job insecurity variable score.

Attachment is one of the factors influencing the quality of romantic relationships in early adulthood. When an individual's attachment style is categorized as anxious attachment, relationship satisfaction and quality tend to be low. This study aims to examine the effects of father involvement and childhood adversity on anxious attachment in early adult romantic relationships. The scales used in this study include the Nurturant Fathering Scale (Finley & Schwartz, 2004), the Child Abuse and Trauma Scale (Sanders & Becker-Lausen, 1995), and the Experiences in Close Relationships Questionnaire-Revised (Fraley, Waller, & Brennan, 2000). The data collection technique used was purposive with participants being early adults aged 18–29 years who had been or were currently in a romantic relationship, resulting in a total of 255 respondents with 62 male dan 193 female. The results showed that father involvement did not significantly influence anxious attachment, whereas childhood adversity had a significant effect on anxious attachment. Given the long-term impact of childhood adversity on anxious attachment in adulthood, it is crucial for parents to be aware of the importance of proper parenting programs to create a safe and supportive home environment.
