    Crop wild relatives in plant species conservation

    Die „Wildpflanzen für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft“ (WEL) umfassen mit 2471 Arten 67,9 % der in Deutschland etablierten Gefäßpflanzen (ohne Neophyten), 11,3 % der Gefäßpflanzen werden als prioritäre WEL-Arten eingestuft. 25,7 % der WEL-Arten sind nach der aktuellen Roten Liste Deutschlands bestandsgefährdet. Für die weltweite Erhaltung von 453 der WEL-Arten hat Deutschland eine hohe Verantwortlichkeit. Das WEL-Konzept bietet neben der Gefährdung und der Verantwortlichkeit ein weiteres Kriterium für Priorisierungen im Artenschutz.With 2471 species, crop wild relatives (CWR) comprise 67.9% of the vascular plants established in Germany (excluding neophytes), 11.3% of the vascular plants are classified as priority CWR species. According to the Red List of Germany, 25.7% of CWR species are endangered. Germany has a high responsibility for the worldwide conservation of 453 WEL species. The WEL concept offers a further criterion for prioritization in species conservation in addition to the criteria of endangering and responsibility

    Dieser Bericht entstand als Teil des Projektleistung 1.2 des Arbeitspakets 1 im Projekt LEX4BIO, das im Rahmen des EU Forschungs- und Innovationsprogramm „Horizon 2020” gefördert wird (siehe acknowledgement). Er beschreibt das Europäische Recht über Düngeprodukte für die konventionelle und ökologische Landwirtschaft, sowie weitere Europäische Normen, die für die Nutzung nährstoffreicher Nebenströme zur Herstellung biobasierter Düngeprodukte relevant sind. Insbesondere enthält der Bericht Informationen zum Recht des Abfallmanagements, der Qualität von Grund- und Oberflächengewässern, zu Rechtsnormen über Klimaschutz/erneuerbare Energien sowie zu rechtlichen Regelungen aus dem Bereich der Gemeinsamen Agrarpolitik. Die Zusammenstellung soll Interessenvertretern, Wissenschaftlern und allen anderen, die im Bereich „Biobasierte Düngeprodukte“ arbeiten oder sich dafür interessieren, als Handbuch und Referenz dienen. Dieser Bericht ist Teil A der Projektleistung von WP 1, welche aus zwei Teilen bestehen wird. Er wird zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt im Projekt durch Teil B ergänzt werden, der sich mit der nationalen Rechtslage in den EU-Mitgliedsstaaten befasst.This report forms part of Deliverable 1.2 from Work Package 1 in the LEX4BIO project, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (see acknowledgement). It describes European legislation on fertilising products for conventional and organic farming, as well as other legislation that is relevant in the context of using nutrient-rich sidestreams (NRSS) as biobased fertilisers (BBFs). In particular, legislation on waste management, ground and surface water quality, climate/renewable energy as well as legislation related to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is covered in this report. The report is intended as a handbook and reference for stakeholders, researchers and all others working or interested in the field of biobased fertilisers. This report forms part A of a deliverable from WP1 that will consist of two parts. It will be complemented at a later stage of the project with part B, which will cover national legislation of the European Member States

    Fruits of the pitahaya Hylocereus undatus and H. ocamponis: nutritional components and antioxidants

    The pitahaya (Hylocereus spp.) is a cactus native to America. Despite the great diversity of species located in Mexico, there are few studies on the nutritional and nutraceutical value of its exotic fruits, ancestrally consumed in the Mayan culture. An evaluation was made regarding the physical-chemical characteristics, the nutritional components and the antioxidants of the fruits of H. ocamponis (mesocarp or red pulp) and H. undatus (white pulp), species of great commercial importance. The pulp of the fruits presented nutritional and nutraceutical differences between both species. The red pulp of H. ocamponis presented the highest content of betalains (15.94 mg 100 g-1), ascorbic acid (10.13 AAE mg 100 g-1) and antioxidant activity (2009.58 μM TE 100 g-1) compared to that of H. undatus. The seeds of both species had a higher content of linoleic acid (ω-6) compared to other fatty acids. The underused skin (epicarp) of the white pulp pitahaya presented a higher content of betalains (19.83 mg 100 g-1) than that found in the pulp and the red skin of the other species (13.21 mg 100 g-1). The red pitahaya that is for regional consumption presented a better functional quality. The skin of both species could be a source of pigments in the food industry

    Projecting changes in phenology and grape composition of \u27Tempranillo\u27 and \u27Grenache\u27 varieties under climate warming in Rioja DOCa

    The aim of this research was to predict the changes in vine phenology under future climate change of two red varieties, cultivated under rainfed conditions, and how grape composition can be affected. The research was conducted in Rioja Designation of Origin (DOCa), a viticultural area located in north central Spain, where red varieties represent near 90 % of the cultivated vineyards. The research focuses on \u27Tempranillo\u27 and \u27Grenache\u27, which represent about 85 % and 10 %, respectively, of cultivated red varieties in the area. The analysis included data related to vineyards located at different elevations and with different climatic conditions, recorded during the period 2008-2018. Phenological dates related to separated flowers (stage H), veraison (stage M) and maturity of the two varieties as well as the grape composition during the ripening period and at maturity were evaluated. The future scenarios were based on the predicted temperature and precipitation changes under two Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios –RCP4.5 and RCP8.5-, which were simulated with an ensemble of models. Projections for 2050 and 2070 were made based on the observed phenological dates and the heat accumulation needed to reach each stage along the growing cycle. An advance of all phenological stages was projected, higher for veraison and maturity than for the earlier stages, and without large differences between both varieties but with differences at different elevations. Veraison is expected to be advanced up to 11 days for 2050 and up to 12 days for 2070 under the RCP4.5 scenario, while under the RCP8.5 scenario, the advance by 2070 could be up to 20 days for both varieties. For maturity, the advance could be up to 27 days for \u27Tempranillo\u27 and 25 days for \u27Grenache\u27, with differences between the cooler and the warmer areas. These changes resulted in a shortening of the periods between phenological stages, giving rise to maturity under warmer conditions. Based on the variability of grape composition observed in the warmer in relation to cooler years, and on the relationship with climate variables, a decrease in acidity as well as a reduction in the content of total anthocyanins is expected for both varieties, which may be higher for \u27Grenache\u27 than for \u27Tempranillo\u27
