Binding of Purified Salmonella Flagellar Antigen to Lactic Acid Bacteria and Its Biological Activity
Some strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) function as adjuvants, and it is expected that the genetically modified LAB expressed with vaccine antigen could be used as an oral vaccine. However, the amount of antigen that can be expressed by LAB is limited, making it difficult to produce the amount of antigen required to stimulate mucosal immunity or to adjust the amount of suitable antigen. In this study, we observed that it is possible to adjust the antigen amount and induce immunity by binding the purified vaccine antigen to lactic acid bacteria in vitro. As a model antigen to be immobilized on LAB, a protein fused with the flagellar antigen of Salmonella (FliC) and an anchor protein (CA) from Lactococcus lactis was used. The sequences of cA and fli C were combined by PCR, cloned into a plasmid for protein purification, and the fusion protein was purified by E. coli. When the fusion protein was mixed with LAB, we confirmed that it bound to the bacterial surface. Furthermore, addition of this strain to Caco-2 cells induced interleukin-8 production in the culture supernatant. These results suggested that fusion proteins containing flagellin antigens purified from E. coli can bind to LAB and retain biological activity.departmental bulletin pape

The Relationship between Career Adaptability and Career Development Skills among Female Students ― Implications for Career Development Education using the Example of X Women’s University in Japan ―
This study aims to elucidate aspects of career adjustment and career development skills among female students who underwent career education at a women’s university in Japan. The primary focus is on understanding the relationship between career adjustment and career development skills and identifying the factors contributing to this relationship. The objective is to derive implications for career development education tailored to women’s universities. The empirical study surveyed 599 female students at X Women’s University in the Kanto metropolitan area of Japan. Using items designed for Japanese university students, the research employs essential statistical confirmation, correlation, scatter plot analysis, and canonical correlation analysis to facilitate discussions.
As a result, the study suggests that career development education at women’s universities should extend beyond the current abilities of female students. It should also address their capacity and inclination to act independently in problem-solving and overcoming difficulties while providing educational support for identifying and pursuing growth opportunities. The importance of teaching leadership skills and fostering an understanding of global diversity were also underscored as significant outcomes of such educational efforts.departmental bulletin pape
