The Influence of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Collaboration and Relationships among Staff and Children in Childhood Education and Care Institutions: Eating Behavior and Professional Development
Get PDFIn this study, through the analysis of group interviews with nursery teachers and principals, we examine relationships and collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic from the viewpoint of eating behavior and professional development of children in the childcare center. As a result, it became clear that communication among children, between children and nursery teachers, and among nursery teachers have all been negatively affected. Not only external changes such as changes in the training format, but also changes that are difficult to see on the surface, but which are felt by those who are directly involved in childcare, are occurring, causing in nursery teachers feelings of conflict, anxiety, and distress. We infer that teachers have been concerned with the effects of life under the pandemic on the children in their care. Because of the difficult situation in which nursery teachers and children find themselves, and because the effects of COVID-19 are expected to be prolonged, it is necessary for all involved to communicate and collaborate to create positive experiences for the children.departmental bulletin pape

“Learning and Participation Project” as a Turning Point for “Amber” in the UK: Media Practice and Design with Local Community Engagement
Get PDFThis article is a case study of the artists’ group “Amber Film & Photography Collective （hereafter Amber）” which has been active since 1968 and is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England. Amber’s media practices have been discussed principally from the perspective of art and social movements in previous research; this paper will consider Amber from the perspective of design. After a brief overview of Amber’s long career, the author introduces the recent “Learning and Participation Project” and suggests that it is a turning point for Amber’s design activity. Specific cases of the “Learning and Participation Project” include 2 projects implemented in collaboration with local elementary schools on the culture of a juvenile jazz band and the history of the shipbuilding industry, both of which once existed in the area. Furthermore, the entire participatory program of the project is illustrated as a “living archive model.” Finally, the author discusses Amber’s past and ongoing activities in the light of design research and practical media studies.departmental bulletin pape
