    Get PDF
Gender inequality in Indonesia remains a significant challenge, especially in achieving gender parity across various development indicators. This study evaluates the impact of different socioeconomic and demographic variables on the Gender Inequality Index (GII) across all regencies and cities in Indonesia in 2023, focusing on aligning with the fifth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Gender Equality. The variables considered include Women's Income Contribution, Women in Professional Occupations, Women's Human Development Index, Women's Life Expectancy, Women's Labor Force Participation Rate, Women's Expected Years of Schooling, and Adjusted Per Capita Expenditure for Women. Three machine learning models, Support Vector Regression (SVR), AdaBoost Regressor, and Random Forest Regressor are applied to determine the relationship between these factors and the GII. Random Forest Regressor demonstrated the best performance with a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.0109. The feature importance analysis reveals that the Women's Human Development Index has the highest impact at 43.92%, followed by Women's Life Expectancy at 23.25%, and Adjusted Per Capita Expenditure for Women at 10.27%. These findings highlight the pivotal role of human development and economic factors in shaping gender inequality in Indonesia, providing valuable insights for formulating targeted policies aimed at reducing gender disparities and promoting equitable development across the country

Digital Resilience Construction in Indonesian Cinema: Victims' Perspective on Gender-Based Online Violence in "Budi Pekerti" (2023)

This paper used the construction of digitally-mediated resilience embedded in culture of Indonesian cinema through a case study of gender-based online violence in “Budi Pekerti” (2023). Using qualitative critical analysis of 16 scenes, the paper showed how the film navigates digital harm and the strategies of digital resilience through the lens of gendered resistance and collective familial response. The paper critically examined the Western-centric model of digital resilience as an individual habitus, and instead studied resilience as a hybrid practice that involves geographically displaced, nurturing ritual and culturally embedded (e.g., Javanese language, food/symbolism). The paper claimed that digitally-mediated resilience for women in Indonesia is embedded in the nation’s collectivist ethos and, hence, in the film resilience was practiced and represented by men and women. As a performance, female characters challenged the digital harm by seeking the truth, correcting in language, and media activism whereas the male characters in the film maintained their reputation. By giving resilience in the film, the paper consequently claimed that institutional systemic barriers and media economy are among the structural conditions that make women’s justice inaccessible in professional space. The film, hence, argued for a culturally-embracing intervention to tackle techno-facilitated violence in the nation’s digital public sphere. By contrasting gendered power and the cultural context, the paper contributes to the media studies’ discourse about digital citizenship, and thereupon offers an insight for policy and community-based intervention regarding the evolving digital public sphere in Indonesia

This study explores students’ perceptions of lecturers’ teaching styles in the English Education Program at Universitas Esa Unggul. Grounded in Anthony F. Grasha’s (2002) five teaching style framework, like Expert, Formal Authority , Personal Model, Facilitator, and Delegator—the research aims to identify the styles most preferred by students, the reasons behind these preferences, and their perceived impact on learning outcomes. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, supported by a case study approach. Data were collected from 11 participants in the 2023 Academic Reading class through semi-structured interviews and a closed-ended questionnaire based on a Likert scale. Thematic analysis, assisted by Atlas. ti software was used to code and interpret the data. The findings revealed that students most favored a combination of the Expert and Delegator styles. The Expert style was appreciated for lecturers’ mastery of subject matter, clarity of explanations, and corrective feedback, which built students’ trust and confidence in learning. Meanwhile, the Delegator style was valued for fostering autonomy, critical thinking, and collaborative learning, enabling students to take greater responsibility for their own academic progress. Additionally, the Facilitator style was recognized as supportive in encouraging active participation, while the Authority and Demonstrator styles were noted for providing structure and clear guidance. Overall, students emphasized that a balanced approach—combining expertise, structure, and opportunities for independence—leads to more effective and engaging learning experiences. This research contributes to the understanding of how teaching styles influence student motivation, confidence, and engagement in English language learning. It highlights the need for lecturers to adopt flexible, student-centered strategies that integrate both academic rigor and opportunities for autonomy. Future studies are recommended to expand the scope across multiple institutions and incorporate additional methods, such as classroom observations, to strengthen findings

Environmental Degradation and Climate Change: Can Globalization be the Remedy of the Problems It Has Caused?

    No full text
The accelerating pace of environmental degradation and climate change demonstrates the mounting threats in the near future. Globalization arguably plays crucial part in causing the environmental and climate problems due to the intensification of global trade and global supply chain. However, some scholars also argue that globalization serves as the avenue to promote the development of green technologies and global environmental governance which are expected to mitigate the impact of environmental problems and climate change. Against these backdrops, this paper aims to investigate whether globalization could remedy of the problems that it has caused. Using literature study, this paper examines current global development of green technologies and global environmental governance as global efforts in mitigating the impact of environmental and climate problems. By focusing on the development of solar panel and electric vehicle (EV) as green technologies as well as the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement as the global environmental governance, the findings suggest that current globalization still could not effectively address and mitigate the environmental and climate problems that it has caused. Keywords: globalization, environmental degradation, climate change, green technologies, global environmental governance

Uncovers The Dynamics of The State Civil Apparatus in Indonesia: Implications for Governance and Institutional Quality

    No full text
The dynamics of the State Civil Apparatus in Indonesia delivered special attention to the governance and institutional quality issues. Admittedly, these dynamics displayed the process of marginalization in political-administration, which affects the State Civil Apparatus in terms of professionalism, integrity, and neutrality, with the efforts to scale down the regulation from the central government intervention. Next, this reveals a gap in institutional fallout with other connections, such as deconstruction by state-led oversight mechanisms, and the long-term effects of governance and institutional quality. Through qualitative descriptive methods and an argumentative review, it was found that the implications of the marginalization process for the governance and institutional quality distort the fundamental principles, which are based on the tools of political power, and display inefficiency, misuse of power, and corruption while reducing public trust in government institutions. Interestingly, the urgency of the executive and legislative commitment from the dynamic only prioritizes the interests of groups behind the political agenda designed to influence the State Civil Apparatus’ performance. Consequently, the study implies that governance and institutional quality are the connecting elements that grant the function of government activities through the State Civil Apparatus, and the researcher’s perspective provides the information on how political interference, when unchecked, affects reform momentum and administrative functioning.

    No full text
Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death, demanding long-term management to prevent recurrence and enhance patient independence. Although effective nutrition education is essential, conventional educational media are often unengaging. This study therefore examined the effectiveness of the Catrokies educational medium on patients knowledge, skills, blood pressure, nutrient intake (SFA, PUFA, cholesterol, soluble fiber, sodium), and independence in daily activities. A pre-experimental, one-group pre-test–post-test design and observational was used with 13 purposively selected participants. Most respondents were 50–69 years old, male, unemployed, had low educational attainment, had experienced stroke for less than one year, and had diabetes mellitus as a comorbidity. Significant improvements were found in knowledge (p = 0.002) and skills (p = 0.001), along with a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (p = 0.003). Intakes of cholesterol, PUFA, SFA, soluble fiber and sodium also improved markedly (p < 0.05), and patients Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scores increased significantly (p = 0.004). In conclusion, nutrition education delivered through the Catrokies medium proved effective in improving knowledge, skills, blood pressure, nutrient intake, and ADL among stroke patients

Unveiling Regional Growth Patterns Spatial Heterogeneity and Infrastructure Quality under a Bayesian Framework in Central Java

    No full text
: This study investigates the impact of infrastructure quality, encompassing roads, clean water distribution, and electricity consumption, on regional economic growth in Central Java from 2018 to 2024. A Bayesian Panel Data Regression model with a hierarchical structure was estimated using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, assisted by Python programming, to address spatial heterogeneity, lag effects, and parameter uncertainty. Model validation employed Posterior Predictive Checks (PPC), Bayesian R², R-hat statistics, and Effective Sample Size (ESS). The findings reveal that past GRDP significantly influences current regional economic growth, while the direct effects of infrastructure variables are statistically insignificant. This outcome highlights that infrastructure quality is more important than quantity in promoting development. The study advances empirical methodologies by integrating full posterior inference with predictive validation, representing a state-of-the-art approach in regional economic analysis. The results provide strong evidence in support of formulating infrastructure policies that focus on long-term, sustainable Growth
