Exploring the link between polymeric surface composition and emerging bisphenol release in toys and childcare products:insights from the Swiss market
This study investigates the release of 14 bisphenols (BPs) from various toys and childcare plastic products available in the Swiss market, using artificial saliva as a simulant. A total of 162 samples were analyzed, revealing substantial differences in BP release across polymer types. Polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) exhibited the highest release rates, while polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyurethane (PUR) showed lower BP release. Statistically significant differences among polymers emphasize the impact of polymer composition on leaching potential. These results enhance the understanding of BP exposure risks from polymeric materials in children's products, underscoring the need for targeted regulatory standards. By identifying high-risk polymers, this study provides valuable guidance for selecting safer materials to reduce BP exposure in products for children

Maturity assessment of appraisal processes in the AI age ::ongoing framework and measuring method
The increasing volume of generated data and archives raises pertinent questions regarding the effectiveness of traditional archival appraisal methods, which largely depend on human expertise. As automation and artificial intelligence (AI) become prevalent in various sectors, the field of archiving stands on the brink of significant transformation. This paper explores the integration of AI within archival appraisal processes, framed within the context of the Maturity Assessment for Appraisal (MAA) project (2023-2025). The MAA seeks to evaluate the defensibility, stability, and appropriateness of current appraisal practices while assessing the readiness of records for automated appraisal. Employing exploratory qualitative research, the study outlines a systematic approach that includes a literature review, testing of a maturity model, and consultations with archival professionals. The MAA encompasses six key dimensions: principles, vision/strategic framework, compliance, methodology, tools, and criteria, providing a structured framework for assessing the maturity of appraisal practices in the AI age. Preliminary results highlight the potential benefits of AI in enhancing appraisal efficiency and effectiveness, paving the way for more informed and defensible archival decisions. Some applied use cases are already started and primarily derived results will be highlighted
Decentralized coordination for multi-agent data collection in dynamic environments
Coordinated multi-robot systems are an effective way to harvest data from sensor networks and implement active perception strategies. However, achieving efficient coordination in a way that guarantees a target QoS while adapting dynamically to changes (in the environment and/or in the system) is a key open issue. In this paper, we propose a novel decentralized Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) algorithm for dynamic environments that allows agents to optimize their own actions while achieving some form of coordination. Its main underlying idea is to balance adaptively the exploration-exploitation trade-off to deal effectively with changes in the environment while filtering out outdated and irrelevant samples via a sliding window mechanism. We show both theoretically and through simulations that in dynamic environments our algorithm provides a log-factor (in terms of time steps) smaller regret than state-of-the-art decentralized multi-agent planning methods. We instantiate our approach to the problem of underwater data collection, showing in a variety of different settings that our approach greatly outperforms the best-competing approaches, both in terms of convergence speed and global utility

A Show of Hands aims to provide a perspective from which conceptual art can be understood in a new light. Bringing together essays on the practices of artists from different parts of the world, it challenges the claims of certain American conceptual artists who have minimized the importance of process in the production of artworks. This book examines conceptual practices from the perspective of “making.” Conceptualism is no longer seen as merely a matter of concepts. Its foundation in ideas begins to erode, while artistic positions that have historically been excluded from the art system cease to be perceived as peripheral. Based on a series of highly diverse case studies, the book suggests that the execution of works of art is an integral part of their conceptualization
Digital education in wound care for practicing health professionals ::a scoping review protocol
Objective This manuscript presents the method which will be used for a scoping review aiming to review the learning theories that have been applied in digital education related to wound care. The proposed review with examine the reported outcomes; the use of technology and identify the challenges and barriers associated with implementing digital learning regarding wound care education for healthcare providers. Introduction The rising prevalence of wounds results in a necessity for proficient wound care management by healthcare providers. Digital education has potential in knowledge and skill acquisition, accessibility, and scalability. However, regarding wound care education no existing review provides an overview of the learning theories used with digital education or their associated outcomes. Inclusion criteria This scoping review will consider studies that describe the use of digital education in wound care in all contexts intended for health professionals. The review encompasses quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods study designs, as well as systematic reviews, text and opinion papers, and conference proceedings. Methods Following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a comprehensive search strategy will be implemented across MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, ERIC, considering both published and unpublished sources. Articles published in English, French, Italian or German, will be included. Screening and data extraction will be performed using Covidence, and the findings will be presented in a table with a narrative summary. The review aims to identify learning theories, outcomes, and challenges associated with digital education in wound care for healthcare professionals. Existing reviews lack a focus on wound care, learning theories, and implementation strategies, highlighting the need for this scoping review. Using JBI and PRISMA-ScR methodologies, the review will map evidence from diverse study designs and contexts to inform future digital education initiatives in wound care
Blockchain au service du contrôle interne ::quelle utilité pour les auditeurs internes ?
The blockchain technology that has emerged in recent years is gaining increasing interest in the business world, including the audit sector. The four largest firms in the industry are indeed drawn to its characteristics, such as transparency, traceability, and the integration of rules and procedures within the technology itself. They recognize that blockchain provides reliable audit trails and an immutable distributed ledger, which enhance the authenticity and reliability of audit data.
In this context, there is a growing number of scientific studies examining the potential impact of blockchain technology on financial auditing, accounting, and finance. However, there are few studies focusing on the use of blockchain as an internal control tool and its impact on internal auditing. To address this gap, we conducted a qualitative study in Switzerland to better understand the attitudes of internal auditors towards blockchain.
It appears that, to date, few internal auditors possess the necessary skills to evaluate this new technology.
Moreover, the majority of them perceive that blockchain would neither improve the quality nor enhance the reliability of their work while the use of a blockchain-based control framework would provide assurance on the entirety of the relevant processes
DECARB ::mixes of policy instruments for full decarbonisation by 2050
The goal of the DECARB research project is to investigate mixes of policy instruments that would allow Switzerland to respect its climate commitments and reach the net-zero emissions target by 2050. In this context, we focus on energy-related emissions which stem from four sectors, namely: power generation, transport, buildings and industry. We evaluate various policy measures, as well as combinations thereof, along several dimensions relevant to policymakers, including environmental effectiveness, economic efficiency, and political feasibility. We adopt complementary methods to perform our analyses in this regard. First, we derive lessons on climate policy design from the existing scientific literature. Second, we employ an augmented numerical simulation model to quantify the economic effects of full-decarbonization pathways for Switzerland. Third, we investigate public support for various policy measures by Swiss residents thanks to a stated-preference survey.
Our analyses reveal that a strong case can be made for mixes of policy instruments if Switzerland is to reach climate neutrality by 2050. Indeed, once real-world complexities are taken into account, the superiority once granted to carbon pricing as a stand-alone measure to abate greenhouse gas emissions is compromised. Indeed, carefully combining policy instruments has the potential for substantial positive synergies in a number of respects, thereby offering an opportunity to improve climate policy. Importantly, desirable mixes of policy instruments are found to differ across sectors, given the distinct targeted technologies and agents. The corresponding results have been presented at international conferences and resulted in four working papers, to be submitted and eventually published in peer-reviewed journals.
The key findings and policy recommendations ensuing from the DECARB research project are provided in the form of three policy briefsL'objectif du projet de recherche DECARB est d'étudier les combinaisons d'instruments politiques qui
permettraient à la Suisse de respecter ses engagements climatiques et d'atteindre l'objectif d'émissions
nettes nulles d'ici 2050. Dans ce contexte, nous nous concentrons sur les émissions liées à l'énergie
qui proviennent de quatre secteurs, à savoir : la production d'électricité, les transports, les bâtiments et
l'industrie. Nous évaluons diverses mesures politiques, ainsi que leurs combinaisons, en fonction de
plusieurs dimensions pertinentes pour les décideurs politiques, notamment l'effectivité environnemen-
tale, l'efficacité économique et la faisabilité politique. Nous adoptons des méthodes complémentaires
pour effectuer nos analyses à cet égard. Tout d'abord, nous tirons des leçons de la littérature scientifique
existante sur l’élaboration de politiques climatiques. Deuxièmement, nous utilisons un modèle de simu-
lation numérique augmenté pour quantifier les effets économiques des trajectoires de décarbonation
pour la Suisse. Troisièmement, nous étudions le soutien public à diverses mesures politiques grâce à
une enquête auprès de résidents suisses.
Nos analyses révèlent que des arguments solides peuvent être avancés en faveur d'une combinaison
d'instruments politiques si la Suisse veut atteindre la neutralité climatique d'ici 2050. En effet, une fois
que les complexités du monde réel sont prises en compte, la supériorité accordée autrefois à la tarifi-
cation du carbone en tant que mesure incitative unique est compromise. En effet, une combinaison
judicieuse d'instruments politiques est susceptible d'engendrer des synergies positives substantielles à
plusieurs égards, offrant ainsi la possibilité d'optimiser la politique climatique. Il est important de noter
que les combinaisons souhaitables d'instruments politiques diffèrent d'un secteur à l'autre, compte tenu
des technologies et des agents ciblés. Les résultats correspo.ndants ont été présentés lors de confé-
rences internationales et ont donné lieu à quatre articles scientifiques, qui seront soumis et à terme
publiés dans des revues évaluées par des pairs. Les principales conclusions et recommandations poli-
tiques issues du projet de recherche DECARB sont présentées sous la forme de trois mémorandumsDas DECARB-Forschungsprojekt untersucht Massnahmenkombinationen, die es der Schweiz ermöglichen, ihre Klimaverpflichtungen einzuhalten und das Netto-Null-Emissionsziel bis 2050 zu erreichen.
Wir konzentrieren uns dabei auf die energiebedingten Emissionen aus den vier Sektoren Stromerzeugung, Verkehr, Gebäude und Industrie. Massnahmen und Massnahmenkombinationen werden anhand politisch relevanter Kriterien beurteilt. Dazu gehören die Wirksamkeit zur Treibhausgasminderung, die wirtschaftliche Effizienz und die politische Machbarkeit. Für die Analysen verwenden wir einander ergänzende Methoden: Erstens leiten wir aus der bestehenden wissenschaftlichen Literatur Lehren für die Gestaltung der Klimapolitik ab. Zweitens haben wir ein numerisches Simulationsmodell weiterentwickelt, mit dem wir die wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen klimaneutraler Pfade in der Schweiz quantifizieren.
Drittens untersuchen wir die Unterstützung der Schweizer Bevölkerung für verschiedene Massnahmen
mit einer Umfrage.
Unsere Analysen zeigen, dass ein Mix aus verschiedenen Massnahmen sinnvoll ist, um die Schweizer Klimaneutralität bis 2050 zu erreichen. Zwar wurde ein einheitlicher CO2-Preis als alleinige Massnahme schon häufig als überlegenes klimapolitisches Instrument präsentiert. Dessen vermutete Überlegenheit hält einer Prüfung jedoch nicht Stand, wenn sie die tatsächliche Vielschichtigkeit der Wirklichkeit berücksichtigt. Sorgfältig konzipiert bergen Massnahmenkombinationen in vielerlei Hinsicht erhebliche Synergien und können so die Klimapolitik voranbringen. Entscheidend ist dabei, dass die Massnahmenkombinationen jeweils unterschiedlich auf die einzelnen Sektoren zugeschnitten werden, um die sektoralen Besonderheiten bei Technologien und Akteuren zu berücksichtigen. Unsere Ergebnisse wurden
auf internationalen Konferenzen vorgestellt und führten zu vier Arbeitspapieren, die in Fachzeitschriften
mit Peer Review eingereicht und veröffentlicht werden sollen. Wir stellen die wichtigsten Ergebnisse und Empfehlungen, die aus dem DECARB-Forschungsprojekt hervorgehen, in Form von drei Memoranden zur Verfügung
