This research discusses the strategies of speech act of requests used in selected episodes of the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants based on Anna Trosborg’s concept in pragmatic studies. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze eight strategies grouped into 4 categories of speech act of requests used in the conversations of characters in the series. The episodes “Culture Shock,” “Help Wanted,” and “Band Geeks” from the SpongeBob SquarePants series were selected for their diverse situations, rich dialogues, and specifically because they depict a wide range of social interactions and character dynamics, which are critical for examining the nuances of request speech acts. The research gap in this study lies in the fact that previous studies have not explored the characters’ roles within the story and their positions involved in the dialogues under scrutiny, which is a crucial aspect of understanding the nuances of speech acts in different contexts. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with Miles and Huberman data analysis techniques to examine the speech act strategies of requests. Data were collected through film observation and translated into oral and written language. The research results indicate that in selected episodes of the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, there are four categories of speech act of request strategies that can be found according to Anna Trosborg’s concept. This research contributes to understanding the application of speech act strategies in the context of animated films, as well as its relevance to pragmatic theory. Future research could build upon this study by examining the role of speech acts in various media platforms, focusing on those that cater to diverse age groups or cultural contexts. Researchers could also delve into how the use of speech acts in animated media shapes children’s and young adults’ perceptions and interactions with the world. Moreover, a comparative analysis of speech acts in animated films versus live-action films could offer valuable insights into the distinct communication strategies employed across different media formats

Contrastive Analysis of Interjections in Indonesian and Mandailing Batak Language

    No full text
This study provides a contrastive analysis of interjections in the Indonesian and Mandailing Batak languages, focusing on their morphological characteristics. By comparing these two languages, we aim to highlight their similarities and differences in the use and formation of interjections. This analysis is limited to a morphological review to prevent overlap with topics related to verb types and verb formation processes. Utilizing both descriptive qualitative research methodology and comparative-contrast descriptive methodology, we systematically compare the interjection morphology in both languages. The methodologies differ in their application: the descriptive qualitative approach involves detailed observations and descriptions of interjection usage, while the comparative-contrast approach focuses on identifying and analyzing the distinctions and similarities between the languages. The primary data source comprises example sentences created by the researcher, ensuring linguistic acceptability. The researcher's specific tasks include selecting relevant sentences, analyzing their morphological structures, and categorizing the interjections. Data collection encompasses the specific interjection systems of each language, and each grammatical category's realization is examined. Contrasts are drawn based on the analysis outcomes after thorough data collection

    No full text
Adolescents are a vital component in the nation's development for the future, comprising 10% of the total population aged 15-24 years old. However, many adolescents are engaging in premarital sex, which contributes to various adverse effects including an increased risk of contracting STIs, HIV/AIDS, unintended pregnancies, and more. This study aims to analyze the roles of parents, peers, and healthcare providers in providing sexual education to prevent premarital sex among adolescents. Using a cross-sectional approach, the study analyzed the role of parents, healthcare workers, and peers in sexual education and its influence on premarital sexual behavior. The research was conducted in nine districts in Bali Province, with a total sample size of 455 individuals. The results revealed that the majority of adolescents consider sexual and reproductive health education important but feel uncomfortable discussing it, particularly with their parents. The absence of parental involvement was indicated by other findings, as only the roles of healthcare workers and peers were significantly associated with a history of receiving sexual education. The role of parents as the primary source of sexual education and guidance can be enhanced through training and education to improve their understanding of adolescent reproductive counseling. This would foster a sense of comfort and openness in discussing the sexual and reproductive issues experienced by adolescents

    No full text
Laws and regulations in Indonesia have regulated health law to ensure that every person has the right to safe, high-quality, and affordable health services. Article 21 of Law No. 36 of 2009 on Health stipulates that every Health Service Facility must have a good and responsible health service management and governance system. However, the regulation of clinical audits as an effort to reduce the risk of negligence in healthcare facilities and how the process and sanctions for unintended errors in handling patients are still unclear. The research method used is empirical legal research. This research was conducted using the Legislative Approach, Conceptual Approach, and Case Approach. The results show that the regulation of clinical audits as an effort to reduce the risk of negligence in healthcare facilities is still unclear, so an approach based on the principles of justice, legal certainty, and usefulness is needed to reduce the risk of negligence in healthcare facilities. Furthermore, the process of audit and the imposition of sanctions for unintended errors in handling patients in healthcare facilities are subject to civil and criminal lawsuits. The conclusion of this study is that in clinical audits in Indonesia, an approach that prioritizes the principles of justice, legal certainty, and usefulness is needed to reduce the risk of negligence in healthcare facilities, so that all parties are treated equally, sanctions for errors must be fair and proportional, and preventive sanctions should focus on improving the qualifications of health workers, improving systems, and developing policies to improve health services and provide patients with the right to claim compensation and file complaints both civilly and criminally. &nbsp

This indicates that the residential in Pengambengan is at a mild level of slum conditions. Despite being relatively low in slum severity, two important aspects should be noted-the provision of qualified drinking water and awareness of fire hazards, as these could have severe consequences for the residents of Pengambengan.
