THE EFFECT OF AUTOGRAFT TYPE ON PROGRESSION OF PHASE-SPECIFIC LOADING ASYMMETRIES IN THE COUNTER-MOVEMENT JUMP FROM SIX TO NINE MONTHS POST-ACLR
Hamstring tendon (HT) and bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts are associated with different strength and jump impulse asymmetries after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The aim of this study was to evaluate graft-specific effects on changes in isokinetic strength and bilateral countermovement jump (CMJ) phase-specific impulse asymmetries during late-stage rehabilitation post-ACLR. Male athletes (n=44) with either a HT or BPTB autograft completed testing at 6 and 9 months post-surgery. Autograft type did not influence progression of isokinetic strength, eccentric deceleration or concentric impulse asymmetry. Asymmetries in concentric impulse, knee flexor strength and knee extensor strength decreased over the three-month period. Changes in strength asymmetry had little or no ability to explain changes in jump impulse asymmetry
VISUALISING THE EFFECT OF SAMPLE SIZE ON DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS: WITH APPLICATION TO A COUNTERMOVEMENT JUMP TEST
Students usually develop an intuitive feel for the interpretation of experimental data relatively slowly through analysing different data sets. The aim of this paper is to encourage educators to develop their student’s expertise more rapidly by using visual representations of statistical concepts and by having the student visually examine many sets of simulated data. The jump height achieved in a countermovement jump is used to illustrate this approach. Some students report that viewing many sets of simulated data in quick succession turbo-charged their expertise as a researcher. It is also shown that calculating the mean of 5–8 jump trials is a good compromise between reducing the uncertainty in the mean and the time spent testing
KINEMATIC AND KINANTROPOMETRICH RELATIONSHIPS IN ELITE ATHLETES OF SPRINT ROLLER SKI
The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between kinematic and anthropometric characteristics of elite sprint roller ski athletes. Thirteen male (age: 26±6 yrs, mass: 73.8±8.1 kg, height: 180.2±7.2 cm) were assessed at the World Cup Competition. Before the race, anthropometric and plicometric measurements were detected, subsequently a 2D recording of the entire route was made and a 3D, at running speed. A correlation of all 3D kinematic and anthropometric data was made with average skiing speed of the athletes, obtained by 2D analysis. Significant inverse relationships were found with total cycle time and time of strong leg propulsion (r\u3c-0.8), a moderate negative relationship with time arm recovering (r=-0.7) and a positive correlations with the cycle frequency time (r=0.8). No association was reported between anthropometric measurements, body composition and performance
PROSTHETIC LEG DESIGN, FORCE PRODUCTION, AND CURVE SPRINT PERFORMANCE: A PILOT STUDY
We compared the use of a running specific prosthesis (RSP) with a solid or “split-toe“ design by athletes with a leg amputation on sprinting speed and stance-average centripetal ground reaction force (GRF) along a flat 400 m track curve, 200 m track curve, and straightaway. Three athletes with a right transtibial amputation performed maximal effort sprints along the curves (clockwise and counterclockwise) and straightaway of an indoor track using a traditional, solid RSP and an RSP with a split-toe design while we measured 3D GRFs and kinematics. Sprinting speed was significantly faster (p = 0.003) when using the split-toe RSP across curve conditions and directions compared to the solid RSP. However, there was no significant effect of RSP design on stance-average centripetal force (p = 0.180). Sprint speed was similar between RSP designs on the straightaway (p = 0.705)
Almost Trued: An Urban Exploration
This thesis focuses on the urban environment as a man-made space and the effects of that space on conceptions of the body, the spirit, and the more-than-human world. The author blends the personal with the scholarly to interrogate the ideologies that define how humans perceive the urban space, the narratives that construct it, and the people who enact their identities on the landscape. The author uses biking as a method to experience the landscape and uses observations as points of entry into explorations of semiology, materiality, and identity. This project seeks to offer alternative ways of thinking about the man-made urban environment and the capacity for those spaces to encourage human thriving

Accelerated Western Blotting Lab for Biochemistry I Laboratory Curriculum
The purpose of this current study was to design a Western Blotting procedure for the Biochemistry Laboratory curriculum at NMU. The methodology consists of gel electrophoresis, transfer of proteins to a membrane surface, and then a series of immunodetection steps that utilize antibodies to recognize and bind to a specific antigen protein. The final steps involve an enzyme, which, when reacted with substrate, allows for the detection of a band on the Western Blot. These bands act as flags, singling out the desired protein. Western Blotting is an important skill for students to learn and is not currently part of the Biochemistry I Laboratory curriculum. Traditionally, this process takes approximately three days to complete, which makes it very difficult to incorporate into the laboratory curriculum schedule. Recently, BioRad has created a piece of equipment, the Turbo Transfer system, that can perform a Western transfer in just seven minutes, which reduces the needed lab time by one day. Using this new piece of technology, it was possible to design a Western Blot experiment for students. To achieve this overall goal, the following objectives were identified: verify the antibody chosen could identify the protein of interest, compare the traditional transfer protocol to the faster transfer system, and optimize the Western Blot protocol for use in the teaching lab environment. All objectives have been met and study results have been proven to be reproducible through repeated testing. This project will conclude with the completion of a performable Western Blotting lab procedure for students

As a medieval travel narrative, The Travels of Sir John Mandeville was immensely popular for everyone from bookworms to world travelers in 14th and 15th century Europe. Given its popularity, and the period in which it was produced, one might expect the fictitious travelogue to display an incredible level of intolerance towards the various peoples and cultures it depicts. However, the Travels frequently surprises modern readers with its message of tolerance towards greater humanity, and its recognition of the universality of human experience as it is mirrored in the lives of people of different ethnic and cultural groups. In order to understand Mandeville’s radical efforts to relate tales of the wider world through a relativistic lens, one must explore strange material, such as tales of geese that grow on trees, as well as the concept of sky burials. Mandeville\u27s account can open our eyes to the cultural sensitivity that was thinkable in the medieval period, and what such sensitivity can teach us today
