Addenda a Sifre-Números
No full textThe present article is dedicated to the study of Greek and Latin words in Sifre Bamidbar, a rabbinical commentary to the book of Numbers. This commentary was written before the third century A. D. and is representative of the language spoken and written during the late Roman period in the Eastern provinces of the Empire. We arrive al this conclusion after a comparative study of the vocabulary with papyri and inscriptions of this same period. The study of these words is based on the reading of manuscripts made by the staff of The Academy of the Hebrew Language of Jerusalem, on the classical edition of Sifre Bamidbar and on the Spanish translation and commentary made by M. Pérez Fernández as a part of the «Biblioteca Midrašica» project. For research of the Hellenistic and Latin background of this vocabulary we were kindly assisted by the DGE researchers and allowed free access of their catalogue. Selected words of this study may be included in further editions of the DGE dictionary, the staff of which exhibited a special interest in «Greek rabbinical» sources.No disponibl

No full textThe metaphor as a structure is the same in the Rhetoric and in the Poetics, but its function is different: it is peripheric in the Rhetoric, while it is central in the Poetics. The text, where the definition is included, has two parts: the first one gives a definition, which the author of the paper would analyse as a metonymy and a synecdoche —both terms not used by Aristotle—, and the second one which is the definition of the metaphor itself specified by Aristotle as an analogical metaphor. Both parts of the definition are dominated by a general and comprehensive definition, ὀνόματος ἀλλοτρίου ἐπιφορά. This definition hides connotations of movement, deflection and substitution of the meaning. The terms genus and species are universal in significando, but not in essendo, and their relationship is based on the specific difference. The analogical process is the only way of communication among different genuses through a proportion whose ratio is the equality, ἱσότης, when you are dealing with numbers, and the similarity, when dealing with other things. The theory that the metaphor is an abridged comparison is not found in Aristotle. The comparison is an enlarged metaphor.No disponibl

No full textThe illustrated Iliad printed in Venice in 1526 is a rare book which is interesting in several ways: a) It is the first Iliad in a modern European language, it is not a translation of the Homeric text but an adaptation or, much better, a «metaphrasis» in trochaicus octosyllabic verses from a byzantine version. b) Until the Apócopos by Bergadis in Cretan dialect appeared (Venice 1509), this Iliad was the first book printed in modern Greek. c) The metaphrasis by Lukanis shows an important publishing activity dedicated to the emigrant Greek people, to the readers of the Greek lands depending on Venice yet, as well as to the Greek speakers of the Ottoman Empire. d) Culturally speaking. Lukanis’ Iliad demonstrates that in the 16th century a byzantine pattern of rhetorical vulgarization of the classical works was valid, that was the Hermoniakos’ Iliad.No disponibl

I have omitted the section arranged according to discovery's places, that may be substituted by the new review Hispania Epigraphica. Special interest deserves the discovery of the Senatus consultum De Cn. Pisone Patre, unpublished for the moment. It may be also enhanced the first oath to the Emperor found in Baetica, of which I offer a text with supplements; an inscription also from the Baetica that provides information about a local magistrate's munificence, and the reconstruction of the monumental inscription from the Segovian aquaeductus, dressed by G. Alföldy. No full textThe Greco-Iberian lead’s plate of Sagunto (Valencia) has appeared almost 200 kilometres away from the rest of this set of writings centered in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia. In it we can find the sequences -aisi, -oisi, which are absent from all Iberian lexical repertoire. That is why, based on the evidence of the Aeolism in the lead letter of Ampurias (Emporion 1), it is highly probable that the natives adapted, in this particular case, a commercial treaty, their language both to the alphabet and to certain Phokaian Aeolic endings so that it could be read by the Greeks.No disponibl
