Differential expression of ferroptosis markers, circadian regulators, KLOTHO, and classical tumor suppressors in colorectal cancer according to tumor stage: Influence of age, anatomical location, and correlation patterns
25 p.Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with an incidence projected to rise significantly worldwide. While TNM staging remains the cornerstone of prognosis and treatment decisions, additional biomarkers are needed to enhance predictive accuracy and therapeutic targeting. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death pathway, has emerged as a key regulator of CRC progression and therapy resistance. Circadian rhythms, KLOTHO, and tumor suppressors, such as p53, CDKN1A (p21), and Rb, also play crucial roles in CRC biology. Integrating TNM staging with molecular markers and patient-specific variables offers a more precise, personalized approach to CRC management. In the present work, we analyze the histopathological expression of KLOTHO, ferroptosis markers (TFRC, ALOX-5, ACSL-4, and GPX-4), circadian regulators (CLOCK, BMAL1, PER1, and PER2), and classical tumor suppressors (p53, p21, and Rb) in a cohort of 63 patients diagnosed with CRC. Besides, we have considered important clinical variables, like sex, age, and anatomical location, in our statistical analysis; correlation with the protein expression of these markers was also included for each stage (T1, T2, and T3). Our study reveals that advanced CRC stages (primarily T3) exhibit increased expression of ferroptosis markers (TFRC, ALOX5, ACSL4, and GPX4) and tumor suppressors (p53, p21, and Rb), alongside reduced histopathological detection of KLOTHO and circadian markers (BMAL1, CLOCK, PER1, and PER2) compared with earlier stages. Age, but not sex, influenced the expression of several markers. Tumor location also played a role, with right-sided CRCs showing significant stage-related differences in ferroptosis, tumor suppressor, and BMAL1, whereas left-sided tumors exhibited variations primarily in circadian markers (CLOCK, PER1, and PER2). Correlation analyses across tumor stages indicate dynamic shifts, with tumor suppressors maintaining positive associations with ferroptosis markers and anti-aging/circadian markers showing stage-dependent changes. Despite the inherent limitations of our study, these findings highlight the evolving biomarker landscape in CRC progression, although further research is needed to elucidate their clinical implications.Comunidad de MadridProACapitalHALE KULANI, S. Short‐term effects in the treatment of episiotomy dehiscence in Physiotherapy: a novel approach in a case series report
10 p.Background and Aims: Dehiscence is defined as the appearance of a hole or gap between the sutured edges of the episiotomy of more than 0.5cm. Episiotomy is a technique in which an incision is made in the perineum to reduce the incidence of severe perineal tears. The two most used are the midline in the USA and Canada and the postero‐lateral incision in Europe. In cases where the mother's BMI exceeds 35kg/m2, the risk of infection and dehiscence increases. Reoperation is the usual choice and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as purulent discharge in 22.2%, perineal pain in 23.6% and 26.2% suffering from both. Radiofrequency and magnetotherapy are common treatments in physiotherapy that have been shown to have positive effects on tissue regeneration with indications for scarring processes. Methods/Results: The following case series report proposes a detailed treatment protocol for episiotomy dehiscence with excellent results and no adverse effects in all cases. All patients had a 50% pain relief and total recovery in 1 week. Conclusions: This is a novel treatment which needs future clinical trials to evaluate, analyze, and determine its effectiveness
Breaking bad news: translation of children's stories about cancer for spanish-speaking children in the United Kingdom
adecuada. The cultural and linguistic diversity of the United Kingdom poses challenges for healthcare
communication, particularly in paediatric oncology, where the emotional impact of breaking
bad news requires resources adapted to children. Furthermore, the lack of such materials in
Spanish highlights a gap that limits accessibility and inclusion for this community.
The aim of this research is to analyse the translation of children’s stories about cancer as a
support tool in the transmission of sensitive medical information. The study is therefore based
on a sample of English-language stories and the fields of healthcare translation, children’s
literature translation and bad news communication. The specific objectives are to examine how
sensitive information is conveyed in these stories, to identify the narrative strategies used to
soften its impact, to assess the presence of communication protocols and to analyse the main
challenges that arise in their translation into Spanish.
The methodology is qualitative and descriptive, consisting of a textual and narrative analysis of
key scenes and of the relationship between text and images. The results show that children’s
stories can be a useful resource for mitigating the transmission of sensitive medical information,
provided that their translation ensures appropriate linguistic and cultural mediation.Máster Universitario en Comunicación Intercultural, Interpretación y Traducción en los Servicios Públicos. Especialidad en Inglés-Español (M198

International human rights standards in disciplinary proceedings : opportunities for member states to the American convention on human rights based on the experiences of Mexico
The research aims to identify normative and practical areas of opportunity for the States Parties to the American Convention on Human Rights regarding disciplinary proceedings brought against public officials. To this end, a systematic analysis of the relevant case law issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights was conducted, contrasting it with the mexican legal framework, as well as with various interpretative criteria issued by its judicial bodies. Through this exercise, relevant legal advances, persistent challenges, and opportunities applicable to other States in the region were identified. The findings of the research support the proposal of a due diligence exercise, aimed at guiding competent authorities in conducting both normative and practical evaluations. The ultimate goal is to promote legal and public policy reforms to strengthen the disciplinary regimes and ensure compliance with the obligations of the American Convention of Human Rights.Máster Universitario en Protección Internacional de los Derechos Humanos (M081
The following Thesis, “The Module as Principle: A Design Strategy in the Architecture of Manuel Barbero Rebolledo”, explores modular architecture as both a constructive and conceptual system, taking the work of Spanish architect Manuel Barbero Rebolledo as a case study. The research examines the possibilities of the module as a repeatable, flexible, and scalable base unit, capable of responding to social, economic, and technical challenges, both in the context of the 20th century and in the present day.
The work is structured around three main axes: a theoretical framework that reviews the origins and advantages of modulation in architecture, with special attention to the Spanish case; an overview of Barbero’s biography and work, focused on his 1.60 × 1.60 meter system; and a comparative analysis with other references, such as Rafael Leoz’s HELE Module.
A key aspect of the research is the reflection on authorship in modular architecture: it suggests that the true protagonist of the project is not so much the architect as an individual figure, but rather the module itself as the generative principle. The architect thus assumes the role of mediator, articulating design decisions through an objective and universalizable system.
The thesis concludes that modulation transcends technology to become an integral design strategy, capable of ensuring efficiency, adaptability, and formal coherence, while highlighting Barbero Rebolledo as a key figure in contemporary debates on industrialization, sustainability, and the humanization of architecture.Grado en Fundamentos de Arquitectura y Urbanism
