    The cognitive-functional properties of English WH-dialogic constructions in discourse

    Within the theoretical frameworks of cognitive linguistics and cognitive construction grammar, this paper takes the pair of a WH-question and one of its answers in contemporary spoken English as the research object and regards such pairs as WH-dialogic constructions. In this study we construct an Event-based Schema-Instance Cognitive Model (ESI model) to analyze the cognitive-functional properties of this category of dialogic constructions. The discoursal expansion and textual cohesion in discourse achieved through the application of such dialogic constructions indicate that the usage of WH-dialogic constructions is one of the basic cognitive strategies for human beings to construe the objective world.

    Effects of Shielding Gas Pureness on Quality of Orbital TIG Welded Austenitic Stainless-Steel Joints

    Aim of this research was determination of effects of shielding and backing gas pureness on quality of welded joints produced from austenitic stainless-steel grade X5CrNi18-10 (1.4301) pipes Ø 50.8 x 1.5 mm by orbital TIG welding without use of additional material. In the case of stainless steel, it is of importance not only to prepare shielding of the molten metal pool but as well protection of welded joint root from oxygen, which causes formation of colorful oxide layers. Presence of oxidized layer primarily decreases corrosion resistance of stainless-steel. Performed examination included: chemical composition of welded join material, delta ferrite testing, non-destructive joint testing, visual testing with discoloration assessment from face and root side (acc. to Danish Force Technology Institute report 93.34 and American ASME BPE-2012 norm), radiographic testing, destructive welded joint testing. Metallurgical shielding of the welded joint face was produced with Argon 5.0 pure, with a flow rate of 8 dm3/min. Root of welded joint was at first protected with Argon 5.0 pure, then argon-atmospheric air mixtures were used. Backing gas flow rate was set to achieve a relative pressure of 300 Pa. Quantity of residual oxygen in gas mixture was selected based on Danish Force Technology Institute report 93.34

    Objective: To set up the HPLC method in determination of the genistin content in Flemingia philippinensis Merr. et Rolfe. Method: Extract and filter the crushed Flemingia philippinensis Merr. et Rolfe that has been soaked in methanol, the filtrate of which is to be taken out as the sample. Shimadzu LC-2010A is adopted in this experiment which is performed on Agilent Extend-RP column with acetonitrile-0.1% phosphoric acid aqueous solution (19:81) as mobile phase. The flow rate is 1.0 mL/min and the UV detective wavelength is 262 nm. Result: The linear relationship is excellent with higher recovery rate within the range. This method is rapid, simple and accurate

    Intention to Buy Sustainable Products Based on Consumer’s Information and Perceptions about “Green”: The Mediating Role of Attitudes

    In the past decades, both research and practice in society related to environmental and sustainability issues have been on the global agenda. The great challenge is to reconcile the interests of consumers, organizations, and the environmental preservation agenda, coupled with economic development in terms of consumption. Within this scenario, this study investigates the intention to buy sustainable products from the information and perceptions of consumers regarding environmental issues, when mediated by the attitudes toward sustainable products. To reach this goal, a survey was applied to Brazilian citizens from a region linked to nature. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling, and the series of regressions trough the macro process. The results indicate that the formation of attitudes is more influenced by information about sustainability than by the perceptions of the consumers. Moreover, the data reveal the crucial mediating role of the attitude toward sustainable products to construct an equally sustainable behavior in terms of consumption when measured by the intention to buy sustainable products. These results suggest that a phase of information generation on sustainability is in the transition to a stage linked to the construction and solidification of beliefs

    This article discusses Jungian psychology as a debated, and exclusionary field of psychology using Carl Jung’s influential work to provide light on analytical or environmental psychology, and to present the theoretical rapprochement between Jungian and Freudian theories[4].  A succinct look at the realm of analytical psychology is still pertinent looking at the role of environmental psychology considering several demands from the modern world. To position Jung in minority spheres, where most of his critics have seen expressions of discrimination, and anti-Semitism, the key principles of Jungian theories will be highlighted considering various researchers to ascertain whether there is limited knowledge for this mindful inquiry[2]. In terms of environmental psychology, Jung’s relevance is important to assess. The many perspectives espoused by Jungian advocates warrant further analysis and research, but are necessary to reflect on today’s societal needs for positive, environmental, humanistic psychology, and potential creation of the psyche as a social transformational tool in psychoanalysis

    3D simulation of transversely isotropic laminated composites in RTM using poromechanics

    In the present paper we are trying to establish a 3D simulation framework for Resin Transfer Molding for a laminated preform using the already developed porous media theory for composite materials process simulation purposes. The aim here is to implement the process phenomena, such as coupling of sub-processes that are happening simultaneously, in a full 3D description of the problem. For this purpose, an 8-node solid shell element is employed to be able to handle complex 3D stress-strain states. The development is exemplified considering RTM process where the main focus of the modeling will be on the flow advancement into fiber preform and flow front capturing. To this end, the theory of two-phase porous media is used along with assuming hyper-elastic material response for the fiber bed to formulate the problem. A finite element formulation and implementation of the two-phase problem is developed, and the results are presented accordingly.

    Strategy instruction and transfer in the EFL classroom

    This study examines the generalizability of research in the areas of instruction; learning; and transfer of learning to the role these play in the area of the use of strategic competencies in foreign language contexts (FLC). While previous studies have tended towards a focus on learner variables, this study includes the conditions of applicability with a task that can impact learning and transfer as well. The contributions of both variables, learner and task, were investigated through note-taking strategy instruction and transfer, to ascertain the effect on reading comprehension of textual materials in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. Learning was measured as a precursor to transfer. In order to investigate the role of instruction and transfer in the transfer of strategy use, a mixed design using both qualitative and quantitative approaches for design and analysis was used. Findings suggest that the relationship between instruction and transfer as represented by strategy use and task performance is a multidimensional one, and that there are implications for language learning instruction in the foreign language classroom

    Contemplative Landscapes: Toward Healthier Built Environments

    This review aims to show the current state of knowledge in the area of the visual quality of landscapes in urbanized areas and their influence on people’s mental health and well-being. This falls under the passive recreation and passive exposure to the environmental stimuli present in our cities (such as walking in nature and quiet contemplation) as opposed to active interactions with the landscapes such as horticulture therapy and meditation. Passive exposure to natural or built environments can shape our mental health patterns throughout the life cycle. Although we know that the quantity of green spaces in the cities can improve the well-being of city inhabitants and contact with natural environments can alleviate various psychological disorders, it is also likely that the quality of green spaces, including seemingly irrelevant landscape design nuances, can play a more important role for our mental health. At present, one can observe strong demand from policymakers for generating scientific evidence-based knowledge to provide recommendations for urban design and the maintenance of green spaces. The Contemplative Landscape Model is an operationalized construct which includes esthetic, environmental, and mental health values of landscapes and could serve as a useful tool to assist in the current need for knowledge. However, more research with an emphasis on causal relationships is needed

    Optimization of laser cladding process for additive repair of high temperature and high pressure valve sealing surface

    Laser cladding technology is highly suitable for the remanufacturing of thin-walled and easily deformable parts due to its concentrated energy density. Due to the high temperature and high pressure corrosion environment, the valve sealing surface is prone to corrosion, wear and other failures. A nickel-based tungsten carbide alloy layer was prepared on the valve sealing surface substrate material by laser cladding process. By designing orthogonal experiments, the effects of laser power (P), scanning speed (Vb), powder feeding rate (Vf), and WC content (wt%) on the alloy layer were investigated. A fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method including macroscopic quality, microstructure, microhardness, anti-wear performance, oxidation resistance, compactness and corrosion resistance was proposed. The experimental results showed that the hardness, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of the laser alloy layer are significantly improved compared with the matrix; the optimum process parameters and the addition ratio of WC powder are laser power (P) of 1.1 kW and scanning speed (Vb) of 800 mm/min. The powder feeding rate (Vf) was 20%, and the WC content was 20% by weight
