Seal of the University of Heidelberg - Siegel UAH XII 2 96
Capturing the Heidelberg University's sealings with a 3D-scanner provides new visualizations and virtual restoration possibilities for the partially preserved damaged objects. High-resolution 3D-models are analyzed due to their surface features, which cannot be documented with photography

Women can´t jump?—An experiment on competitive attitudes and stereotype threat [Dataset]
Gneezy et al. (2003) offer a partial explanation for the wage gap between men and women. In an experiment they found that women react less to competitive incentives. The task they used in their experiment can however be considered a male task. We replicate the experiment and extend it by treatments with a gender-neutral task and a female task. For the male task we replicate their results, but for the neutral task women react as strongly to incentives than men and for the female task women react stronger than men. Our findings suggest a stereotype threat explanation. Women tend not to compete with men in areas where they (rightly or wrongly) think that they will lose anyway – and the same holds for men, although to a lower extent
Reserve Price and Competing Bids: Reference Points for Product Evaluations in Online Auctions? [Dataset]
With an increasing number of products sold in online auctions, the effect of reference points on consumers’ product valuations has received much attention in the literature. Two potentially relevant factors affecting bidders’ preferences are the sellers’ reserve price and the competing bids by other bidders. The current evidence regarding these reference points is mixed. We argue that a focus on studying bids prevents a clear identification of reference point effects. Directly observing product valuations, in two experiments we find that willingness-to-pay in online auctions is affected by both reserve prices and competing bids, supporting the constructed values paradigm

The quality of clinical maternal and neonatal healthcare
Data was collected in a total of 33 health factilities.Data was collected by direct non-participatory observation of the clinical interactions between maternal care providers and women delivering in the factilities' maternity unit. The main purpose of the study was to determine the quality of routine maternal and early newborn care provided by the heatlh care providers during labour, childbirth, and the early postpartum period. The data collection instrument consisted of a checklist of process indicators. Research assistance observing the clinical interaction documented on the checklist whether given processes have been performed according to national clinical standards by the health care providers or not
Communication in Cournot competition: An experimental study [Dataset]
This study investigates the impact of communication on outcomes in Cournot duopoly and triopoly experiments. Communication is implemented by two different devices, a ‘standardized-communication’ and a ‘free-communication’ device. Using both students and managers as subjects, we find that managers behave in a similar way under both communication devices, while students collude slightly better under free than under standardized communication. Second, while under standardized communication managers select lower outputs than students, we observe no difference in subject pools under free communication. Finally, we observe more collusion in duopoly than in triopoly
A Test of Mechanical Ambiguity [Dataset]
We implement an experiment to elicit subjects’ ambiguity attitudes in the spirit of Ellsberg's three-color urn. The procedure includes three design elements that (together) have not been featured in similar experiments: Strict ambiguity preferences, a single decision, and a mechanical randomization device with an unknown distribution (to both subjects and experimenters). We use this device in order to eliminate possible ‘strategic’ ambiguity related to subjects’ beliefs about the experimenters’ motivations. In addition, we survey 40 experimental studies on Ellsberg's two- and three-color problems, and find that, on average, slightly more than half of subjects are classified as ambiguity averse. Our results, with our new design, fall on the low end of the range of results in the surveyed studies, and are comparable to a control test where “strategic” ambiguity was induced
Georeferencing of the "Lorscher Codex"
Collection of historic place names from the Lorscher Codex (1176-1200). Most of the (deserted) villages and cities named in the codex had been in possession of Abbey Lorsch, many of them are mentioned for the first time here. In the project the property should be visualised in modern as well as historic maps
Transcultural Empire: Geographic Information System of the 1897 and 1926 General Censuses in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union
The geographic information system (GIS) is based on the first and only Russian Imperial Census of 1897 and the First All-Union Census of the Soviet Union of 1926. The GIS features vector data (shapefiles) of allprovinces of the two states. For the 1897 census, there is information about linguistic, religious, and social estate groups. The part based on the 1926 census features nationality. Both shapefiles include information on gender, rural and urban population. The GIS allows for producing any necessary maps for individual studies of the period which require the administrative boundaries and demographic information
