    The topical catalogue 'The French Venus'in the series 'The Iconography of Venus from the Middle Ages to Modern Times' lists 2997 artworks (sculptures, reliefs, paintings, frescos, drawings, prints and illustrations) of 977 identified French artists. The date of creation, artist's name, title(s), type, medium/support and dimension of the artwork, the owner, inventory number and information sources are given. The catalogue is ordered chronologically under the 18 main topics and many more subtopics of the rich iconography of Venus.     Tailored Selection of Study Individuals to be Sequenced in Order to Improve the Accuracy of Genotype Imputation [Source Code]

    The addition of sequence data from own‐study individuals to genotypes from external data repositories, for example, the HapMap, has been shown to improve the accuracy of imputed genotypes. Early approaches for reference panel selection favored individuals who best reflect recombination patterns in the study population. By contrast, a maximization of genetic diversity in the reference panel has been recently proposed. We investigate here a novel strategy to select individuals for sequencing that relies on the characterization of the ancestral kernel of the study population. The simulated study scenarios consisted of several combinations of subpopulations from HapMap. HapMap individuals who did not belong to the study population constituted an external reference panel which was complemented with the sequences of study individuals selected according to different strategies. In addition to a random choice, individuals with the largest statistical depth according to the first genetic principal components were selected. In all simulated scenarios the integration of sequences from own‐study individuals increased imputation accuracy. The selection of individuals based on the statistical depth resulted in the highest imputation accuracy for European and Asian study scenarios, whereas random selection performed best for an African‐study scenario. Present findings indicate that there is no universal ‘best strategy’ to select individuals for sequencing. We propose to use the methodology described in the manuscript to assess the advantage of focusing on the ancestral kernel under own study characteristics (study size, genetic diversity, availability and properties of external reference panels, frequency of imputed variants…)

    Assuming universal ambiguity aversion, an extensive theoretical literature studies how ambiguity can account for market anomalies from the perspective of expected utility-based theories. We provide a systematic experimental assessment of ambiguity attitudes in different likelihood ranges, and in the gain domain, the loss domain and with mixed outcomes. We draw on a unified framework to elicit preferences across these domains. We replicate the usual finding of ambiguity aversion for moderate likelihood gains. However, when introducing losses or lower likelihoods, we observe predominantly ambiguity neutrality or seeking, rejecting universal ambiguity aversion

    A European-wide 222Radon and 222Radon progeny comparison study [Dataset]

    Although atmospheric 222Radon (222Rn) activity concentration measurements are currently performed world-wide, they are being made by many different laboratories and with fundamentally different measurement principles, so compatibility issues can limit their utility for regional-to-global applications. Consequently, we conducted a European‐wide 222Rn/222Rn progeny comparison study in order to evaluate the different measurement systems in use, determine potential systematic biases between them, and estimate correction factors that could be applied to harmonize data for their use as a tracer in atmospheric applications. Two compact portable Heidelberg Radon Monitors (HRM) were moved around to run for at least one month at each of the nine European measurement stations included in this comparison. Linear regressions between parallel data sets were calculated, yielding correction factors rela tive to the HRM ranging from 0.68 to 1.45. A calibration bias between ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) two‐filter radon monitors and the HRM of ANSTO/HRM = 1.11±0.05 was found. Moreover, for the continental stations using one‐filter systems that derive atmospheric 222Rn activity concentrations from measured atmospheric progeny activity concentrations, preliminary 214Po/222Rn disequilibrium values were also estimated. Mean station-specific disequilibrium values between 0.8 at mountain sites (e.g. Schauinsland) and 0.9 at non‐mountain sites for sampling heights around 20 to 30 m above ground level were determined. The respective corrections for calibration biases and disequilibrium derived in this study need to be applied to obtain a compatible European atmospheric 222Rn data set for use in quantitative applications, such as regional model intercomparison and validation, or trace gas flux estimates with the Radon‐Tracer‐Method

    14CO2 observations at Jungfraujoch high altitude research station in the Swiss Alps (3450m a.s.l.) and at Schauinsland observatory (1205 m a.s.l.) in the German Black Forest are conducted to monitor the background 14CO2 level over Europe and define the reference for regional estimates of fossil fuel CO2. The record is also used for post-bomb dating of organic material (e.g. forensic studies)

    Countercyclical Risk Aversion: Beyond Financial Professionals [Online Appendix and Replication Package]

    We test if Cohn et al.’s (2015) experimental results on countercyclical risk aversion exhibited by financial professionals generalize to a standard student sample. In our sample, we do not find an effect of stock market bust or boom on subjects’ investments. We do not find a systematic emotional reaction, nor do we find an effect of variation in the emotional state (especially fear) on investment. Our results add to the literature documenting behavioral differences between financial professionals and non-professionals and, taking a policy perspective, underline the need for careful external validity checks of single sample experiments
