    Low Context Communication Foreign Students From Lospalos -Timor Leste In Organizasaun Lospalos Uan Ukani Bandung

    Organizasaun Lospalos Uan Ukani Bandung is an association of foreign students from Lospalos-Timor Leste studying in Bandung. Student members of this organization come from the city of Lospalos, Timor Leste. Their culture and language is fataluku which is a culture with high context communication. This study aims to determine the communication style of students who are members of the organization. The theoretical framework used in this research is Symbolic Interaction which examines the meaning that arises from the reciprocal interaction of individuals in the social environment with other individuals and focuses on the question of what symbols and meanings can arise from interactions between humans in a small to a wider scope. such as groups, organizations or social communities such as what happened in Organizasaun Lospalos Uan Ukani. The method used in this research is qualitative-descriptive. The results of the study prove that the communication style of students from the Los Palos uan Ukani Bandung organization is a low context communication style that is different from the fataluku culture communication style which is classified as a high context cultural communication style. This difference is caused by the mixing of the multilingual communication students of the Los Palos uan Ukani Bandung organization

    Experimental Study of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Performance under Vibration

    An experimental study was conducted to study the effects of flow uniformity on vibration and power generation of a small vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). Previous studies have confirmed that one of the sources of vibration in the turbine is due to aerodynamic forces, which are due to incident wind. Firstly, understanding vibration is essential before proceeding to the measurements. In this experiment, further understand the vibrations of the turbine in operation, the operating deflection shape (ODS) technique was used. A wind tunnel and flow conditioner were fabricated. Experimental modal analysis (EMA) was conducted, and the dynamic characteristics are gathered. The ODS was conducted for operating the turbine at different speeds, with and without the flow conditioner. Results from EMA and ODS are correlated to explain the behavior of structures. In conclusion, the flow conditioner tested did have a big impact on the response of the structure in terms of vibration up to 30% indifference, but not so much in power generated about 2% indifference

    Principal leadership and school performance: Intergrating instructional and transformational leadership in South African schools context

    This study aimed to examine the integration of instructional and transformational models of leadership in sustaining school improvement. The question of how the integration of instructional and transformational leadership in schools can influence learners' performance has received a significant amount of interest among researchers. Literature reviews have found two key approaches: educational and transformational leadership models to establish the most appropriate school leadership model. Therefore, this article reports on qualitative research used to arrive at an in-depth understanding of integrating instructional and transformational leadership in enhancing school performance. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with principals in one educational province. Purposive sampling techniques were used to select participants for the study. Findings from the study established that integrating the two models had the potential to enhance learner performance. This study has shown that the integration of instructional and transformational leadership models led to a climate that promotes a culture of teaching and learning, hence increasing quality learning outcomes

    Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Observers Applied in Biodegradation

    There exist processes difficult to control because of the lack of inline sensors, as occurs in biotechnology engineering. Commonly the sensor is expensive, damaged, or even they do not exist.  It is important to build an observer to have an approximation of the process output to have a closed-loop control. The biotechnological processes are nonlinear, thus in this work is proposed a fuzzy observer to endure nonlinearities. To improve the results reported in the literature, type-2 fuzzy logic was used to justify the membership functions used. The observer's gains were computed via LMIs to guarantee the observer's stability.  To facilitate the fuzzy inference computation, interval type-2 fuzzy sets were implemented. The results obtained with the interval type-2 fuzzy observer were compared with a similar technique that uses a fuzzy sliding mode observer; this new approach gives better results obtaining an error 60% lower than the obtained with the other technique. They were designed three observers that work ensemble via a fuzzy relation. The best approximation was to estimate the intermediate concentration. It is important to know this variable because this sub-product was also toxic. It was concluding that by using the oxygen concentration and the liquid volume inside the reactor, the other concentrations were estimated. Finally, this result helps to design a fuzzy controller by using the estimated state. Using this approach, the estimation errors for the phenol and biomass concentrations were 49.26% and 21.27% lower than by using sliding modes

    Adaptive Fuzzy Fault-Tolerant Control for a Class of Nonlinear Systems under Actuator Faults: Application to an Inverted Pendulum

    This work investigates a fuzzy direct adaptive fuzzy fault-tolerant Control (FFTC) for a class of perturbed single input single output (SISO) uncertain nonlinear systems. The designed controller consists of two sub-controllers. One is an adaptive unit, and the other is a robust unit, whereas the adaptive unit is devoted to getting rid of the dynamic uncertainties along with the actuator faults, while the second one is developed to deal with fuzzy approximation errors and exogenous disturbances. It is proved that the proposed approach ensures a good tracking performance against faults occurring, uncertainties, and exogenous disturbances, and the stability study of the closed-loop is proved regarding the Lyapunov direct method in order to prove that all signals remain bounded. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the accuracy of the proposed technique

    A review of institutional response and Covid-19 pandemic risk communication in regional autonomy system in Indonesia

    A global pandemic Covid-19 led countries to take aggressive action regarding social management and crisis governance management system. The case of a pandemic discovered in Wuhan provides a lesson for the government worldwide to adopt. However, the government system in every country has its characteristics. This study aims to release the potential policy recommendation in Indonesia when Indonesia's regional autonomy system faces a challenge in the pandemic situation, such as the increase of competition between regions. Even more, the public service system becomes concerned with the ego regionality. The strengthening country's capacity system is vital in the regional autonomy system as well as the collaboration between central and local government in terms of containment of the spread of the pandemic. Used a political ecology approach and a descriptive- review method, this study was conducted by discussing how the government responds in the regional autonomy system at the beginning of the pandemic situation. The review results show that the local government's response relies on their capacities, such as budget, human resources, and leadership. However, challenges arise when central and local governments' action is not in line in terms of the regional autonomy system. The public and political communication among central and local governments should be rearranged with an integration under proper management, particularly in the first month of the pandemic situation

    The religion in higher education curriculum referring to Indonesian qualification framework: The inclusion of neuroscience and anti-corruption education

    The research aims to develop the curriculum of the Higher Education Curriculum, specifically Islamic religion, referring to the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI). The problem raised in this research is the redesign of the curriculum in Indonesia, especially the formation of new courses such as the neuroscience of Islamic education and anti-corruption education, which have not considered the breadth of study material and calculation semester credit units that are not accountable. This research was conducted in three stages: curriculum analysis, curriculum matrix design, and curriculum matrix experimentation. The research subjects involved 133 lecturers in the Higher Education Institutions of Religion, both Islamic, Catholic, and Hindu in Indonesia. The findings indicate that the developed matrix design can be used as an integrative tool for forming subjects and calculating semester credit unit weights in a mathematical and accountable manner, and accommodating the development of Islamic education, particularly neuroscience and anti-corruption education. This matrix can complement Kim's research on syllabus ontology identification and lesson study innovation developed by E. Purwaningsih and D. Nurhadi

    SDRE and LQR Controls Comparison Applied in High-Performance Aircraft in a Longitudinal Flight

    This paper presents the design of the LQR (Linear Quadratic Regulator) and SDRE (State-Dependent Riccati Equation) controllers for the flight control of the F-8 Crusader aircraft considering the nonlinear model of longitudinal movement of the aircraft.  Numerical results and analysis demonstrate that the designed controllers can lead to significant improvements in the aircraft's performance, ensuring stability in a large range of attack angle situations. When applied in flight conditions with an angle of attack above the stall situation and influenced by the gust model, it was demonstrated that the LQR and SDRE controllers were able to smooth the flight response maintaining conditions in balance for an angle of attack up to 56% above stall angle.  However, for even more difficult situations, with angles of attack up to 76% above the stall angle, only the SDRE controller proved to be efficient and reliable in recovering the aircraft to its stable flight configuration

    The Antecedent of teachers' intention to use e-learning during a pandemic: TAM approach

    Many education institutions implement e-learning to replace traditional face-to-face teaching and learning activities due to the Covid19 pandemic. The situation forced students and teachers to adapt to the new normal of teaching and learning activities. This study aimed to evaluate the teachers' intention to use e-learning after almost a year after the Covid19 pandemic widespread began, using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach. The partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) technique was employed to evaluate the intention to use e-learning. Using 291 samples of Teachers in Indonesia, this study shows that the TAM approach describes the antecedent of teachers' intention to use e-learning during a pandemic. Perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and job relevance are determinant factors of teachers’ intention to use e-learning during the pandemic

    The relationship between communication apprehension and leadership styles in a job recruitment process

    Nowadays, many organizations seek to accelerate the employees’ communication effectiveness. However, only a few put efforts into reducing communication apprehension and understanding their potential in leadership. This paper seeks to investigate the correlation between communication apprehension and leadership styles, and consequently tries to investigate its impact on individuals’ success in a job recruitment test. A total of 114 participants were gathered in an online survey from a government institution’s recruitment process. The inferential statistic tests (ANOVA) were used to determine differences in leadership styles and their communication apprehension based on respondents’ success in the recruitment process. Results showed that respondents who have high communication apprehension would display task-oriented leadership behaviors and were tended to be more focusing on their role and performance, while the lower communication apprehension indicated more relation-oriented leadership behaviors. Moreover, applicants with a relational leadership style would likely pass a job recruitment test and were more likely to have a successful result in a recruitment process than ones with a task-oriented leadership style. Additionally, this research also gives a glimpse of communication apprehension study in non-western countries. The findings suggest a need for organizations in addressing these issues in order to develop their employees’ communication capacity. Limitations and future research are also discussed in this paper
