Listening as productive skills: Reinventing classroom tasks
The article revisits the role played by listening skills in second language learning by challenging the perception of listening as a receptive skill. It argues that listening can be made productive by incorporating drama in classroom tasks to bring out more productive features of learning. To instantiate the implementation of drama, a listening activity is proposed with a framework. The article opens a new dialogue in scholarly characterisation of language skills through re-visualising what learners can perform during listening tasks as well as how this performance can stretch our conventional thinking about the nature of language practice
A Survey of Control Methods for Quadrotor UAV
Flight control design of unmanned aerial vehicles UAVs is becoming increasingly important due to advances in computational power of computers with lower cost. The control algorithms are mainly employed for the attitude and position control of the UAVs. In the past decades, quadrotors have become the most popular UAVs, their adaptability and small size. They are employed to carry out tasks such as delivery, exploration, fumigation, mapping, surveillance, rescue mission, traffic monitoring, and so on. While carrying out these tasks, quadrotor UAVs face various challenges, such as environmental disturbances, obstacles, and parametric and non-parametric perturbations. Therefore, they require robust and effective control to stabilize them and enhance their performance. This paper provides a survey of recent developments in control algorithms applied to attitude and position loops of quadrotor UAVs. In addition, the limitations of the previous control approaches are presented. In order to overcome the relative drawbacks of the previous control techniques and enhance the performance of the quadrotor, researchers are combining various control approaches to obtain the hybrid control architecture. Short-Term Solar PV Power Generation Day-Ahead Forecasting Using Artificial Neural Network: Assessment and Validation
Solar photovoltaics (PV) is considered an auspicious key to dealing with energy catastrophes and ecological contamination. This type of renewable energy is based on climatic conditions to produce electrical power. In this article, a multilayer feedforward neural network (MLFFNN) is implemented to predict and forecast the output power for a solar PV power station. The MLFFNN is designed using the module temperature and the solar radiation as the two main only inputs, whereas the expected power is its output. Data of approximately one week (6-days) are obtained from a real PV power station in Egypt. The data of the first five days are used to train the MLFFNN. The training of the designed MLFFNN is executed using two types of learning algorithms: Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) and error backpropagation (EBP). The data of the sixth day, which are not used for the training, are used to check the efficiency and the generalization capability of the trained MLFFNN by both algorithms. The results provide evidence that the trained MLFFNN is running very well and efficiently to predict the power correctly. The results obtained from the trained MLFFNN by LM (MLFFNN-LM) are compared with the corresponding ones obtained by the MLFFNN trained by EBP (MLFFNN-EBP). From this comparison, the MLFFNN-LM has slightly lower performance in the training stage and slightly better performance in the stage of effectiveness investigation compared with the MLFFNN-EBP. Finally, a comparison with other previously published approaches is presented. Indeed, predicting the power correctly using the artificial NN is useful to avoid the fall of the power that maybe happen at any time
Ethno pedagogy and conservation practices of the erai-erai dance in the Lematang Malay Community, Lahat District, South Sumatra Indonesia
Ethno pedagogy examines the interaction of pedagogical and cultural traditions as well as social and pedagogical processes and examines educational methods and solutions used by the Lematang people in Lahat District. This study aims to analyze the application of Ethno pedagogy in learning erai-erai dance. Art-based qualitative methods with an ethnopedagogical approach as a data collection strategy based on observation, interviews and document research. Several stages of the interview activities included interview planning, conducting interviews, recording interview data and activities after the interview, namely checking the validity of the data and making systematic data so that it was ready to be used as material for further analysis. Source triangulation techniques to check data accuracy and test the credibility of data from various sources, then to compare the results of interviews between informants who are directly or indirectly involved. The results of this study are the dissemination of erai-erai dance performances through a socialization process so that ethnopedagogical practices emerge in the community with various learning strategies for erai-erai dance practised by each social class with their respective roles, thus directly or indirectly creating ethnopedagogical practices. Then, a conservation strategy involving ethnopedagogical practices in erai-erai dance is implemented using social media. Advanced product review summarization in e-commerce marketplaces: elevating beyond tf-idf and lexrank method
In the fiercely competitive domain of online product sales, wherein engendering trust among prospective buyers assumes paramount significance, the role of product reviews cannot be understated. However, a prevailing issue in online marketplaces resides in the presence of product reviews that do not consistently align with the overall product rating. Furthermore, the sheer abundance of comments often leads potential consumers to confine their scrutiny to the initial comments, thus leaving a substantial volume of reviews unexplored. To rectify this challenge, this study introduces an automated text summarization system for product reviews, leveraging the LexRank methodology. This system underwent rigorous evaluation using the Rouge metric, with results manifesting substantial promise. At a threshold of 0.1, Rouge-1 exhibited an accuracy of 16.67%, while Rouge-2 scored 3.01%, and Rouge-L reached 16.50%. At a threshold of 0.2, Rouge-1 yielded a score of 16.08%, Rouge-2 registered 2.64%, and Rouge-L scored 16.57%. The second evaluation, performed with a distinct test dataset, notably excelled, emphasizing the system's competence. Specifically, at the 0.2 threshold, the system displayed superior performance, underscoring its efficacy in refining product review summarization within online marketplace
Location-Aware Recommender System: A review of Application Domains and Current Developmental Processes
Recommender systems (RS) have been widely used to extract relevant and meaningful information from a vast body of data, to make appropriate suggestions to users with different preferences in various domains of applications. However, despite the success of the early recommendation systems, they suffer from two major challenges of cold start and data sparsity. Traditional RS consider an interaction between user and item (2D), neglecting contextual information such as location, until fairly recently. The contexts extend traditional RS to multi-dimension interaction and provides a useful information that allow recommendations to be more personalized. Surprisingly, taking these contexts such as location, into consideration eliminates the challenges of traditional RS. Location-Aware Recommender System (LARS) takes user's location into account as an additional context. The combination allows the prediction of spatial items, items closest to the users, to reduce information overload and was proved to be more effective than earlier RS. In this research, we provide a systematic literature of the existing literature in LARS from 2010 to 2021, focusing on the state-of-the-art methodologies, the domain of applications, and trends of publications in LARS. The paper proposed several models of LARS based on the traditional RS methodologies, providing future directions to researchers. Despite numerous reviews available on LARS, a review that proposed several LARS techniques were not found in the literature. The results indicated that the trend of publication in LARS is growing exponentially and that the field is getting attention rapidly with the number of publications on the rise every year
Performance Analysis of PSO DFFP Based DC-DC Converter with Non Isolated CI using PV Panel
This article presents the modeling and development of a DC-DC converter with Partial Swarm Optimization with Distinctive Feed Forward Propagation (PSO-DFFP) controller for hybrid power systems, including photovoltaic panels. The transient and dynamic analysis of the proposed controller has been presented. The PSO-DFFP controller has been designed to improve the operating efficiency and reduces the input converter current ripple. The ANFIS and PSO DFFP controllers are developed, and the performance of the system is compared. The proposed system reduces the switching losses and voltage drops in switching modes. The proposed system is demonstrated and developed with a 200W, 100kHz model. From the experimental results, it can be exposed that the proposed system is acceptable for PV applications

The process of adaptability and flexibility of floating house (Rumah Lanting) in West Kalimantan, Indonesia
The culture of settlement of each person is different in accordance with internal and external factors. The culture of settling alongside the river such as in floating houses has becomes a local wisdom for the local community. The ability to adapt and make adjustments to the physical environment by floating house occupants makes this settlement exist until today. The concept of adaptation and adjustment to the physical environment becomes an important point for floating house occupants. Therefore, this study seeks to formulate the concept of adaptability and flexibility in floating houses. The research method used is the case study method with a multi-case approach. The selected cases are samples that indicate that there has been an adaptation process based on consideration of the duration of occupying the floating house. The analysis is carried out by looking at the patterns of occupants’ behavior that affect the function and nature of space. The results of this study are formulated into the concept of adaptation through two types of modification namely environmental modification and User modification. Environmental modification occurs when the function of the existing space changes, following the addition of property. User modification occurs when changes in spatial functions force the occupants to change behavioral patterns
Design of an FTTH (Fiber To The Home) network for improving voice, broadband, and television services in hard-to-reach areas the Colombian case
This project establishes the process of designing a fiber optic Ftth network that reaches the homes of each end customer, which allows providing voice services, broadband internet, and television, the above using GPON technology, based on the tree architecture through passive elements, where the node or central is connected to other nodes through a common link, which is shared by all the nodes (ONTs) of the network. This network will be designed in two levels, the first level that starts from the OLT to the level one splitter and the second level that begins from the level one splitter to the OTB element that the level two Splitters have. The entire design will be subject to standards that must be met to achieve the percentage of attenuation allowed. At the design level, it has two directions: one from left to right, where the nodes insert traffic, and another from right to left, where the nodes only have two functions: read or read and delete traffic. It is nothing more than the convergence of the primary communication services of today, such as fixed telephony, the internet, and television. The FTTH Network is designed for the Municipality of Usiacurà of the Department of Atlántico, using the Top-Down Design methodology, where the requirements are analyzed, the designs are developed, and the tests are carried out. The operation of this network is monitored
