Deep Learning-based Attack Detector for Bilateral Teleoperation Systems
A teleoperation system is referred to as a plant that is controlled remotely, and it is often composed of a human operator, a local master manipulator, and a remote slave manipulator, all connected by a communication network. Bilateral teleoperation systems (BTOS) include transmissions in both the forward and backward directions between the master and slave. This paper discusses a class of (BTOS) focusing on the security of the system after modeling the master and slave robots mathematically. The false data injection attack is examined, where the attacker may inject false data into the states that are being exchanged between the master and slave robots. The vulnerability of BTOS, where the attack destabilizes the system, is presented. A deep learning-based detection technique is proposed to detect the presence of false data injection attacks. The deep learning model with convolution neural network structure is trained and tested with considering complex attacks where the attacker has full knowledge of the system and proficiency to emanate and control the target system. The proposed model achieves 96\% validation accuracy, and the efficacy of the proposed deep learning detector is demonstrated and tested into the BTOS
Cracking the code: Understanding lecturer performance and student success
One of the essential factors in a learning process, especially in higher education, is lecturer performance. This study aims to discover the impact of a lecturer's performance on students learning outcomes in the online learning environment. Lecturer performance is represented by four aspects which are the lecturer's performance on learning technology (X1), the lecturer's performance on learning pedagogy (X2), the lecturer's performance on supporting learners (X3), and the lecturer's performance on supporting educators (X4). This quantitative research approach aims to discover one variable's cause-and-effect relationship to another. The subject of this study is 37 lecturers and 146 students. The result shows that the lecturer's performance contributes 43.1% to students' learning outcomes. It is known that learning technology and pedagogy aspects have a significant effect on students' learning outcomes. However, supporting learners and educators does not significantly impact students' learning outcomes. Therefore, the lecturer's performance positively impacts learning outcomes and is valuable for further online learning development. A potential research contribution could be to investigate further the relationship between specific aspects of a lecturer's performance and students' learning outcomes in an online learning environment. this study's findings have significant implications for higher education institutions seeking to improve online learning experiences for students. By identifying the specific aspects of lecturer performance that most impact learning outcomes, institutions can provide targeted support and training to their lecturers, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes for students in online learning environments
Journalist's relationship with political authority in Egypt 1960-2011
The study of the journalist's relation with political authority in Egypt from 1960 to 2011 seeks to reveal, describe, analyze and interpret the journalist's relation with political authority in Egypt during this period and to reach a model that explains the factors affecting the journalist's relation with political authority. This is by exposing the political, legislative, social and cultural factors affecting the journalist's relationship with political authority during the period of study. This paper aims to reveal the personal characteristics of successive political leaders during the period of study, and their role in shaping the relationship between the journalist and the political authority in Egypt. In addition to revealing the social development, personal characteristics and professional gradations of a sample of prominent journalists during the course of the study, and the role these factors played in shaping the relationship between the journalist and the political authority in Egypt. The study found that the media in general, and the press in particular, play a role in political life, whether by expressing interest groups and opinion leaders, or by relying political systems on them to reach out to the public and promote their policies at home and abroad alike. Media has also proved to be the link between the public on the one hand and political decision makers on the other. The results also confirmed that the media helps the political systems to create public opinion in favor of their policies or to mobilize public opinion against those opposing their policies, which in both cases is a dangerous and vital role. The study also revealed that the mass media can influence the minds and emotions of the public and change their attitudes and behavior in a way that serves their policies and achieves the interests and goals of the political authority. The results of the study also confirmed that the legislation and laws prevailing in each country determine the form of the relationship between the press and the political authority. The results of the study also showed that the forms of relations between journalists and politicians vary, sometimes they are confused, and sometimes stabl
Real-Time Underground Plastic Pipeline Water Leakage Detection and Monitoring System
The leaking of the water pipeline increasingly influences the quality of life and threatens the water supplier in developing countries. Proper method is required to effectively detecting the source for replacement to reduce the loses. Therefore, a water leakage detection with monitoring system is developed to detecting the precise leaking location of a buried plastic pipeline. The real-time pressure data obtained from the pressurized pipeline are transferred to the monitoring system with GUI (graphical User Interface), developed using LabVIEW software. In the experimental execution, a leaking pipeline is designed. Then, few pressure sensors are installed on the pipeline as a primary segment for the detection process. To prevent a false non-leak alarm and malfunction of the pressure sensors, the pressure threshold value and malfunction alarm is set using LabVIEW. Cross-correlation method is implemented that increase the accuracy of the leaking distance estimation. The processing and control unit in this article are manipulated using LabVIEW software and NI myRIO-1900 respectively
Turning Point and Free Segments Strategies for Navigation of Wheeled Mobile Robot
The basic idea of the developed work is to solve the problem of mobile robot navigation with obstacle avoidance and the trajectory tracking problem in simple and complex environments. The research contribution aims to develop a strategy of navigation based on the turning point and the free segments algorithms. Indeed, a turning point method is developed in order to solve the problem of navigation in a simple environment. Then, the free segments approach is applied in order to solve the problem of obstacle avoidance in a complex environment. The second part of this paper aims to solve the problem of trajectory tracking. For this reason, a sliding mode controller is proposed as a solution to control the stability of the mobile robot. Finally, some simulation results which are developed using Matlab software are given to prove the validity of the developed work
An Autonomous Pesticide Sprayer Robot with a Color-based Vision System
The usage of robots has been due to cost reduction and increasing operation accuracy. Furthermore, employing robots in farming can decrease human tasks in hard and dangerous duties such as plowing, spraying pesticides, etc. Spraying chemicals is a common operation in agriculture crop protection. This operation is essential, but it can create some problems such as human and environmental damages by overdosing using pesticides. Recently, researchers focused on precision agriculture to make this smart. Sensors are employed to detect leaves of plants on the ground and spray them as much as required. Thus, pesticide dose will be under control. The current paper aims to introduce a wheeled robot that is developed to detect plants by color sensor and spray them. This robot can move between planting rows and detect weeds based on the leave color. A microcontroller-based board was used as the main controller, which sends spray commands to the sprayer nozzle. Outdoor and indoor tests were carried out to study the accuracy of this system. Results of experiments showed that this robot could work with acceptable accuracy in identifying weeds in the field. Thus, this robot can be commercialized for applying in the field to spray pesticides
Longitudinal Modeling of a Road Vehicle: 4-Wheel Traction
This paper presents the longitudinal modeling of a 4-wheel traction vehicle represented in a block diagram using Matlab®/Simulink® software. The proposed modeling is suitable to be implemented in automatic parallel, oblique, or perpendicular parking systems considering speed cases between 5 km/h and 30 km/h. For the computational simulations, it was considered that the vehicle starts at rest and goes up a referenced or determined slope in degrees (°), with a sufficient rear reaction force to allow the vehicle to move until the engine produces sufficient torque. For the model of the tire variant, the magic formula (characterized by the sum of five vectors about an axis) was used. Three input signals were considered, slope, wind, and accelerator variation were considered in numerical simulations. The output signals are rear and normal front forces, vehicle speed, angular velocity, and engine acceleration. The longitudinal modeling proposed allows for easily reproducing the results and assigning new parameters to validate a Project, contributing positively both to the automotive industries and in innovation-based scientific research
Intangible aspect of revitalization in vernacular heritage architecture in case study of Wae Rebo NTT Village
Revitalization is an effort to preserve traditional architecture. The form of revitalization in traditional architecture has certain values and principles, which can be seen from both tangible and intangible aspects. These two aspects have different responses in the revitalization process. In the tangible aspect, we can measure the impact through a quantitative approach, while in the intangible aspect, we can measure it using a qualitative approach. This paper answers the question of how the intangible aspects of revitalization impact the sustainability of traditional architectural values. It carries the research method of using qualitative methods and theoretical studies, and comparing those aspects of the revitalization process. The results are explained by defining the positive and negative effects on the last condition of revitalization
Prediction of stock purchase decisions using artificial neural network method
The difficulty of determining a stock purchase decision is a problem to benefit from stock transactions. This study aims to give a person's decision to buy one of the issuer's company shares to get a profit on the same day. The dataset used in this study came from the investing.com website in the form of daily data shares of PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk with ICBP stock code for the period January - September 2019. The attributes used in this study were the opening price, highest price, lowest price, closing price, transaction volume, day representation, and decisions. The dataset that has been collected was normalized using the Min-Max method to facilitate data processing. This research used the backpropagation neural network method and used the 10-Fold Cross Validation and Confusion Matrix for validation. The results of this study indicate that the backpropagation neural network method uses the bipolar activation function with training cycles of 2000 and learning rate of 0.03 has the best performance namely 69.35% of accuracy, 67.65% of precision, 74.19% of recall and 30.65% of error rate for prediction of stock purchase decisions per day in the form of buy or not
To read on-screen or printed texts? A quantitative study into EFL students’ reading achievement
The aim of this study was to compare the EFL students’ reading achievement between reading on screen and printed text. This study used a quantitative research design. The participants of this study were 60 students from two classes who took an English education major. The students were randomized into two groups. The experimental group read on screen and the control group read on printed text. The instrument of this study was a news article with 10 multiple choice questions and 10 true-false statements adopted from Breaking News English with the title “Dietary Supplements†by Sean Banville. To analyze the data, the researchers used Independent Sample T-test. The findings revealed a significant difference in students’ reading achievement based on the mean score of both groups. The mean score of the experimental group was 85.33 while the mean score of the control group was 75.00. Then, the result of Sig. (2-tailed) value showed that p value, 0.008, was lower than α 0.05, (0.008 0.05). Hence, it can be concluded that the EFL students who read on screen scored higher in reading achievement than the EFL students who read printed text. The overview of this current study on reading theory, media used, the material given, and reading screen versus paper research, may enable to help teachers and lecturers to make a consideration for their teaching reading in the classroom
