    Gender inequality in HDI and per capita expenditure: A probabilistic distribution and spatial data analysis

    Men and women have different habits or lifestyles, which inevitably leads to variances in other areas. As a result, gender statistics emerged. In this example, researchers seek to discover if there are discrepancies in HDI and per capita expenditure in Indonesia between men and women. To determine this, data from reliable sources is required; thus, researchers use data from the official BPS website, bps.go.id. The data comes from many tables, so the researcher will join them so that they may be studied. The data used in this scenario are HDI data by gender in 2020 and Per Capita Expenditure data by gender in 2020. Researchers employed graphical tools, such as boxplots and thematic charts, to examine whether there are differences in HDI and per capita expenditure between men and women in Indonesia. Aside from that, researchers used the two-sample t-test approach to see if there were variations in HDI and per capita expenditure between men and women. Researchers will utilize Python software to run this hypothesis test. According to the findings of the investigation, there is still gender imbalance in Indonesia in terms of HDI and per capita expenditure. As a result, it is intended that this research can be utilized as a reference in analyzing existing policies to ensure that there is no gender discrepancy in terms of HDI and per capita expenditure between men and women. It is also envisaged that this research would be beneficial to many people

    The article looks at the challenges and opportunities of collecting and disseminating performance art from an art library’s perspective. Based on the collecting experience of the Mediathek at the Academy of Art and Design FHNW Basel (Switzerland), the text contextualizes its own digital collections within the Swiss performance art context. What is special about Mediathek’s collection is; (1) the fact that a remarkable number of documents of performance art are accessible for free via the internet, without login, in a structured, searchable and sustainable way. Because the policy permits, upon certain conditions, the acceptance of content from individuals, groups, and institutions not associated with the university, there is; (2) a considerable amount of ‘external’ materials in the collections.     Motivational aspects of digital games in learning process

    With the advent of digital games and its rapid evolution, it is almost impossible for a lot of people especially the young children to go a day without coming into contact with them. One of the impacts of these digital games is that it is changing the way these young children think and learn. It is therefore important to carefully examine the influence of digital games on children’s education. The purpose of this research is to identify and examine the factors that motivate children to play digital games and to determine the effect of such games to the children’s learning abilities. Responses from 172 students of ages between 11 and 16 are analysed in this research. A questionnaire is used to capture the children’s motivation towards digital gaming. Also, an intellectual test was carried out to determine the effect of digital games on the children’s learning abilities. The findings have revealed that competitive spirit is the major factor that influences children to play digital games because of the challenge and the competition that comes along with it. Furthermore, a critical view from the results of the intellectual test has shown that the children that play digital games score higher results and were able to finish within a short period of time as against the children that do not play. The outcome of this research could be used to explore the possibilities of using digital games as tools for learning, especially to the young ages

    A review on L2 models of reading theories and reading teaching strategy

    L2 reading instruction has tended to focus on the explicit teaching of reading strategies on the grounds that a strong grasp of reading strategies would lead to better reading comprehension skills. We argue that such teaching practice is very much anchored in the cognitive-psychological based theory of reading that have characterized the field of SLA over the years. In light of this, we seek to present a summary of various theories, research findings and arguments around the nature of reading in SLA. The data were collected through electronic database such as Eric, Google Scholar, Proquest and Wiley Online Library. We discuss three major reading models: bottom-up, top-down, and interactive model, alongside metacogniton theory, extensive and intensive reading as well as reading assessment. We believe that a sound understanding of these cognitive based processes underlying reading activity could serve as the basis for improvement in reading instruction. However, there is an inherent need to consider sociocultural aspects of reading in order to help students sustain reading engagement over an extended period of time toward the formation of reading habit. We conclude the discussion by suggesting that as reading actvity becomes increasingly digitized, more qualitative research studies exploring student’s individual experience are highly recommended, in complimentary to the cognitive-psychological based theory of reading

    A study on perception and behavior among chinese urban and rural older adults in the early stage of COVID-19

    Based on the comparison of information behavior characteristics and differences of the urban and rural elderly group in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study aims to analyzed the questionnaires collected from 980 elderly people. It was found that there were different mechanisms by which media use influenced the protective behaviors of the elderly. Authoritative media is able to directly influence the behavior of the elderly, the information function of social media influences their precautionary measures by affecting their perception, and their social function directly promotes the adoption of protective behaviors by the elderly. There are still significant differences in media use between urban and rural elderly groups. Rural elderly groups rely more on interpersonal networks to seek information and their social circles of WeChat acquaintance are closer. Therefore, health communication research among the elderly needs to further focus on the urban-rural differences in their digital inclusion process

    Improved Design of Nonlinear Control Systems with Time Delay

    It is well known that time delay in nonlinear control systems may lead to the deterioration or even destabilization of the closed-loop systems. Therefore, specific analysis techniques and design methods are needed to be developed for nonlinear control systems in the presence of time delay. This chapter aims to give a broad overview of the stability and control of nonlinear time-delay systems. Firstly, we present some motivations and a comprehensive survey for the study of time-delay systems. Then, a brief overview of some control approaches is provided, specifically, the Lyapunov-Krasoviskii functional method for high-order polynomial uncertainties nonlinear time-delay systems, and nonlinear time-delay systems with nonlinear input, the Lyapunov-Razumikhin method for triangular structure nonlinear time-delay systems, dynamic gain control for full state time-delay systems. Finally, an application in chemical reactor systems is provided and some related open problems are discussed

    An Intelligent Color Image Recognition and Mobile Control System for Robotic Arm

    The aim of this study is to develop intelligent color recognition, mobile control, and monitoring system for a pick-and-place robotic arm for manufacturing systems. The demand for smart manufacturing factories with real-time control of fabricating processes and traceability of production information is increasing urgently. Generally speaking, a smart manufacturing facility is usually composed of sensing, computing, control, and communication technologies together. In this study, the three-tier architecture of the Internet of things (IoT) was adopted as a guideline to design mobile devices to control and monitor a color image recognition and alarm monitoring system by using Raspberry Pi and a web page database. The practical results and contributions of this study are as follows:  With integrating the techniques of advanced BR PLC, mobile devices and APP, color image recognition, Raspberry Pi microcomputer, and MySQL database technologies together, (1) the mobile control and monitoring system is able to supervise a real-time manufacturing plant anywhere and anytime with mobile devices easily; (2) the color identification system can identify and classify different color work-piece precisely, and the identification results are recorded for remote database platform; (3) the collected data are analyzed and displayed on mobile devices through the web database for field operators and engineers promptly.  It provides a very successful practical paradigm to promote conventional factories to meet industry 4.0

    The role of regionalism in the architecture of Santa Maria Assumpta Church by Y. B. Mangunwijaya

    Architecture as a science of designing, does not revolve around materials, spaces, and expressing aspirations only. The shape of the building style that changes from time to time shows the response of involvement to the surrounding environment and can be a challenge that may eliminate the characteristics of the place if it is left unnoticed. Regionalism as an approach in architecture becomes a knowledge that can be applied to express the characteristics and values of the region. The Catholic Church in Indonesia is one of the examples that has a connection with the approach, and not just related to the adaptation of local culture so it becomes familiar with the community, but also how it shows the universal church in it. Mangunwijaya, one of the architects in Indonesia, who was also a culturalist, pointed out the use of regionalism in his architectural works. This study aims to determine how far the application of regionalism in one of his works and discover his actions in implementing regionalism. The research used a qualitative approach and collected library data from various sources. The author used descriptive analytic methods in verifying elaborated theories about regionalism in the case study of the Church of Santa Maria Assumpta in Klaten by Y. B. Mangunwijaya. This research shows that the concept of regionalism can also be applied in Indonesia. The research also found the importance of applying regionalism which is not only to display the local characteristics but also to support the needs of the people in church

    Using PV Fuzzy Tracking Algorithm to Charge Electric Vehicles

    Due to the possible shortage of oil and gas, increasing the number of cars, global warming, air pollution, and outages, there is a special need for renewable energy sources and electric vehicles (EVs). The new battery-electric vehicles BEVs can be charged by the power grid. However, the existing fossil fuel power plant cannot provide enough power for this purpose, and the only choice is renewable energy sources (RECs). Comparing RECs, solar energy is abundant and accessible in any part of the world. Needless to state that a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system is required in order to extract maximum power from solar modules. In this paper, a charging strategy is proposed via using a solar system, a boost converter, and a fuzzy tracking algorithm. The main research contribution of the presented paper is to charge an EV without putting stress on the power grid. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by the MATLAB Simulink and LTSPICE results

    Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization for Solving Reactive Power Optimization Problem

    The losses in electrical power systems are a great problem. Multiple methods have been utilized to decrease power losses in transmission lines. The proper adjusting of reactive power resources is one way to minimize the losses in any power system. Reactive Power Optimization (RPO) problem is a nonlinear and complex optimization problem and contains equality and inequality constraints. The RPO is highly essential in the operation and control of power systems. Therefore, the study concentrates on the Optimal Load Flow calculation in solving RPO problems. The Simple Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) often falls into the local optima solution. To prevent this limitation and speed up the convergence for the Simple PSO algorithm, this study employed an improved hybrid algorithm based on Chaotic theory with PSO, called Chaotic PSO (CPSO) algorithm. Undeniably, this merging of chaotic theory in PSO algorithm can be an efficient method to slip very easily from local optima compared to Simple PSO algorithm due to remarkable behavior and high ability of the chaos. In this study, the CPSO algorithm was utilized as an optimization tool for solving the RPO problem; the main objective in this study is to decrease the power loss and enhance the voltage profile in the power system. The presented algorithm was tested on IEEE Node-14 system. The simulation implications for this system reveal that the CPSO algorithm provides the best results. It had a high ability to minimize transmission line losses and improve the system's voltage profile compared to the Simple PSO and other approaches in the literature
