Present of Female Executives and Diversity Problem in Japanese Prime Market Listed Companies

    Get PDF
According to the Cabinet Office, the proportion of female executives(directors, auditors, executive officers)among prime market listed companies(approximately 1,650 companies)is 13.4%(as of the end of July 2023). Among prime market listed companies, the ratio of companies without female executives is 10.9%(as of the end of July 2023). Among prime market listed companies, the percentage of female directors is 13.9%. The percentage of female corporate auditors is 12.2%. On the other hand, there are still few female executives in the executive department(management team), which can be seen as an issue in terms of promoting diversity. According to a survey by private companies, 90% of female directors among prime market listed companies are outside directors. The reality is that there are very few cases of women becoming directors within a company. The proportion of female auditors is similar. The board of directors is required to play the role of supervising management. It seems that internal personnel will not be able to fully fulfill this responsibility, so external personnel will be the main focus. The government requires prime market listed companies to have at least 30% female board members by 2030. In addition to directors and auditors, the term officers defined by the government includes executive officers or equivalent positions involved in day-to-day management. However, according to the government, 60% of prime listed companies do not have women in their management ranks. This is because emphasizing female executives has the effect of preventing organizations from making incorrect decisions. By influencing the board of directors with the diverse knowledge and ideas of women, the supervisory function of the board of directors will be strengthened. To promote diversity, there is an urgent need to promote women to internal executive positions, along with directors and auditors elected by shareholders.departmental bulletin pape

Communication and Timidity in The Zoo Story

    Get PDF
Edward Albee made his debut with The Zoo Story in 1951. There are only two characters in this play: Jerry and Peter. Jerry has a strong eagerness to “really talk; like to get to know somebody, know all about him”(Albee 19), but he cannot communicate with the others. Jerry attempts to make Peter recognize the problem of superficial or manualized communication, which prevents people from ‘talking’ and makes them lonely, but Peter pretends not to notice it. This shows their different attitudes toward life which is restricted not only physically but also mentally by the biopower in modern society. This paper examines the biopolitical reading of The Zoo Story. The different recognition of life, especially bios and zoé, of Jerry and Peter reveals the loneliness caused by timidity in communicating which is common between Jerry and Peter even though they appear to be in contrast.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on Seamless Support throughout Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Child-rearing

    Get PDF
In contemporary times, continuous support throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing is highly valued. This paper examines how the issue of seamless support is constructed and understood. In the pre-modern era, pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing were carried out as a continuous process centered around midwives, but this flow has been disrupted through modernization. Subsequently, as a countermeasure to the declining birthrate, efforts were made to reconnect these processes. Seamless support as a measure against the declining birthrate means establishing systems to ensure that families do not drop out, and if they do, that the risk is recognized, and they receive the necessary support. This can be seen as enforcing a particular ideal way of life. In the future, as families become more diverse, it will be unreasonable to base support on a presumed ideal family structure. Therefore, support that acknowledges and embraces family diversity as a given is required.departmental bulletin pape

The State of Dietary Habits Among Students in Nutritionist Training Courses: A Report on Breakfast Habits, Vegetable and Salt Intake

    Get PDF
In this study, a food questionnaire was administered to students in the nutritionist training course from 2020 to 2023 with the purpose of reviewing their dietary habits. The 144 students who responded were included in the analysis. They were divided into two groups according to the frequency of breakfast: "4 or more days a week"(breakfast intake habit group)and "3 or less days a week"(not applicable group). Survey items related to breakfast intake, vegetable intake, and salt intake were compared. The breakfast intake habitual group had a significantly lower percentage of those living alone. In addition, a significantly higher proportion of the breakfast habituated respondents had a breakfast consisting of a staple meal, main dishes, and side dishes, and a significantly higher proportion of them consumed vegetables for breakfast. However, the results also indicated that breakfast was not sufficient even for those who were habitual breakfast eaters.departmental bulletin pape

Self-Governing Administration in the Federal Republic of Austria -The Municipalities( Gemeinden) and The Legal Representatives of Occupational Interests(Kammern)- (3)

    Get PDF
The Austrian Constitution, Bundes-Verfassungsgesetz(B-VG), classifies the self- governing administration in Austria into Gemeinden – the territorial selfgoverning administration(cities, towns and villages)and Kammern – the personal self-governig administration(the legal representatives of occupational interests, social insurance, etc.). The Fundamental characteristics of the self-governing administration system are autonomy, the juridical person, the internal democracy of organization, and the control of the Bund(federal government)and Land(state government). The Selbstverwaltungkörper(the self-governing body)executes all or part of the public administration of the federal and state governments. For this reason, the autonomy of the self-governing administration is in contradiction to the parliamentary democracy and the public administration hierarchy. This paper examines the relationship between the democseracy of the selfgoverning administration and the parliamentary democracy of the federal and the state administration. Currently in Austria, the cooperative federalism of all three levels; the Bund(the federation), the Länder(the state)and the Gemeinden(municipalities)is under Debate. In this paper, the position, competence, and organization of the municipality is considered.departmental bulletin pape

Examination of Issues and Future Roles of School Counselors in Terms of Recognition and the Image of School Counselors - Support for Children Who Have Difficulty in Requesting Assistance -

    Get PDF
The purpose of this survey is to examine the feelings of students who did not receive counseling and the support they need. The survey revealed that more than half of the students answered “don't know SC” or “no SC” if they had a school counselor(SC), and 75% of them had never been involved with a SC. The factors that inhibit students from requesting assistance from SCs are “lack of information about SCs and their use,” “lack of opportunities to get involved, and “ the threat to self-esteem.” In order to increase the ability of students to request assistance, it is necessary to increase opportunities for SCs to naturally get involved with students. In the future, it is expected to be effective to improve the mental health of students if SC activities are conducted with an awareness of “fostering the ability of students to ask for help”.departmental bulletin pape

Risk Management in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry: A Case Study of Typhoon Measures Taken by Hotels in Nago, Okinawa

    Get PDF
Typhoons are the natural disaster of greatest concern to the Okinawa tourist industry. Most typhoons approach Okinawa during the summer holidays, when the number of inbound tourists is at its peak, and often wreak havoc. An interview study was conducted of the measures taken by hotels in the event of a typhoon to investigate the current situation and the issues they face. This report surveyed nine major hotels in the municipality of Nago. The hotels were found to prioritize the safety of their users. A large number of people are required to support hotel guests during a typhoon, but all the hotels investigated were taking measures to secure staff as well, and no major issues with risk management were apparent. This study also presents some tactics for alleviating the anxiety and inconvenience suffered by hotel guests in the event of a typhoon. Examples include making information available on the cost of staying extra nights during a typhoon, and obtaining and distributing rechargeable fans for use should room air conditioners be unusable in a power cut. Typhoons are an unavoidable problem for tourism in Okinawa, but typhoons can actually be understood as providing a good opportunity for hotels to gain visitors and raise their ratings, although constant preparation and resourcefulness is required.departmental bulletin pape
