The existence of waste is very influential on the environment and living things. One of the most common environmental problems is the behavior of littering. The campus is one of the places where we often find the behavior of littering indiscriminately. Factors that are thought to be related to littering are nature relatedness. Nature relatedness is a person's level of attachment to his environment. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a relationship between a person's nature relatedness to the behavior of littering among students. This research is a correlational quantitative research with 74 respondents obtained by incidental sampling method. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between a person's nature relatedness and littering behavior (r= 0.212; p=n.s). These results can prove to us that a person's nature relatedness does not necessarily make them behave eco-friendly. This insignificant result can be a good indication of eco- friendly behavior in the campus environment

Muslihat Yakub dalam Mendapatkan Hak Kesulungan Dari Esau

The lives of Jacob and Esau, Isaac's twin sons, were filled with tension and competition. Genesis 25:23 tells how the competition between the two was even prophesied by God himself from the time they were conceived. The rivalry between the two continued in the event of Jacob taking away the blessing and birthright from Esau through "deception". Through literature study, this research will attempt to understand the "deceptive" actions carried out by Jacob in taking over the blessing and birthright from Esau, thus making Jacob the ancestor of the Israelites. This research proves that Jacob's action of deceiving Esau was the writers' strategy to explain one of the laws followed by the Israelites, namely the law of retribution. Jacob who "cheated" would receive the same treatment, namely from Laban, his uncle and father-in-law and also by his own children in the event of the sale of Joseph by his own brother (Gen. 37:12-36).AbstrakKehidupan Yakub dan Esau, kedua putra kembar Ishak diwarnai dengan ketegangan dan persaingan.

Kalimantan's people drink bajakah roots as a traditional medicine to restore stamina and treat various diseases. The infusion is less practical and unstable, so it was developed into a tablet. Porang is a local tuber that contains amylum and amylopectin. The combination of starch-lactose has been widely used as a tablet filler and produces tablets with good physical properties. This study aimed to determine the effect of the combination of porang starch-lactose on the granules and tablets' physical properties. Bajakah roots were infused and dried using a freeze-dryer. The antioxidant activity was measured using the DPPH method. Tablets of bajakah root water extract were made with a 1:1 porang tuber starch-lactose ratio using the dry granulation. Physical evaluations of granules and tablets were conducted, including flow rate, angle of repose of granules, and weight uniformity, hardness, friability, and disintegration time of tablets. Porang tubers-lactose with a ratio of 1:1 produced tablets with good evaluation results with a granule flow rate of 9.70±0.92 g/s and an angle of repose of 26.15±1.79°. Uniformity of tablet weight met acceptance value, with hardness of 5.38±0.90 Kg, friability of 0.26±0.05%, and disintegration of 10.60±1.33 min. Porang tuber fulfills the requirements of a good tablet filler and can be developed as a tablet filler.

Gateway to Precarization: A Study of the Work Experience of Young Volunteers and Interns at the Biennale Jogja Equator Arts Festival

This study offers an investigation into the dynamics of cultural labor, focusing specifically on the engagement of volunteers and interns in art festivals. Despite their appeal as expressions of artistic richness, art festivals conceal fundamental challenges related to volunteer labor, which blur the lines between altruism and exploitation, and between unpaid volunteerism and paid labor. This research employs ethnographic methods, with data collected through direct observation, interviews, and literature review targeting interns and volunteers involved in art festival activities, specifically using the Biennale Jogja Equator as the primary case study. The findings reveal that while volunteers gain invaluable firsthand experience and develop critical skills within the creative sector, they also face systemic challenges inherent in the art festival production ecosystem. On one hand, volunteers accumulate cultural and social capital, such as skill acquisition and networking opportunities; on the other hand, questions remain about how to translate this capital into economic capital or tangible benefits. This condition makes volunteer work and internship programs as gateways to deeper precarization

INTRODUCTION IN SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH ARTICLES BY INDONESIAN AUTHORS: A COMPARATIVE MOVE ANALYSIS

    Get PDF
The introduction section of a research article (RA) is crucial, as it serves as the foundation for the entire research study. A well-crafted introduction can captivate readers, offering essential insights into the background and rationale for the study, while also conveying the research's quality and reliability. This study investigates how novice versus experienced social science researchers introduce their work in English research articles (RAs) published in internationally recognized Scopus-indexed journals compared to those published in Indonesian national journals. We analyze the rhetorical structure and linguistic features used in these introductions. Employing Swales' (2004) Create A Research Space (CARS) model as a theoretical framework, this descriptive comparative qualitative study delves into the analysis of commonalities and differences in the execution of rhetorical moves and steps, as well as linguistic features and metadiscourse. The results reveal that both sets of data exhibited all three rhetorical moves outlined in the CARS model, namely Move 1 (Establishing a Territory), Move 2 (Establishing a Niche), and Move 3 (Presenting the Current Work). However, the findings also underscore distinctions in how these steps and metadiscourse were realized, indicating that writers in both groups employed distinct approaches when introducing their research studies. Implications to English teaching at universities and publication workshops are discussed

BRINGING CULTURE TO LIFE: UTILIZING WOOD CARVING IN SPEAKING CLASS

    Get PDF
Sentani tribe in Papua had diverse cultural heritages that have now been neglected. One of them is wood carving. Despite its aesthetic and socio-cultural values, wood carving (ohomo) has not been acknowledged by most of the young Sentani generation. Thus, preservation is needed so that wood carving can be acknowledged, appreciated, and disseminated. One way of preserving this unique wisdom is by using it as a medium for teaching the English language. This will also help the learning process to be more contextual and challenging. By focusing on learning to speak, the objective of this study is to explore the strategies for teaching speaking using wood carving. This descriptive-qualitative study was conducted in Jayapura Regency Papua between May and July 2022. Data on wood carvings were collected between May and July 2022 from several informants, namely tribal chiefs, wood carvers, Sentani elders, and parents in East Sentani (Waena and Asei Island) and Central Sentani (Hobong and Yoboi). Teaching materials of wood carvings were tried out to 20 students of Senior High School Grade X from 4 different schools in Jayapura Regency via formal class and field trip. By infusing wood carving in learning to speak, the study found two important things, namely (1) the students were enthusiastic and motivated in speaking, and their confidence, as well as self-esteem, were improved; (2) the students appreciated wood carving as their cultural heritage and proud of their identity. Teachers’ creativity in infusing culture and their commitment to teaching played a significant role in reinforcing students’ appreciation of their culture and improvement in their speaking ability
