The Representation of Ambyar Concept in Guyon Waton’s Songs
Get PDFThis research aims to examine the concept of ambyar in Javanese pop dangdut songs. This research is descriptive qualitative and quantitative research applying Roland Barthes’s semiotic approach and Lecay's representation theory. The data was collected through observation, transcription, and closed interviews. The data taken from Guyon Waton’s song lyrics are categorized into primary data consisting of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences and secondary data in audio consisting of high and low notes and repetition of lyrics. Furthermore, closed interviews were conducted to collect information related to the representation of ambyar, which develops in society. The results show that ambyar in Guyon Waton’s song lyrics is represented through disappointment, heartbreak, abandonment, and unrequited love. On the other hand, the contradicting lyrics describe ambyar as an attitude of resignation, fast move on, and toughness. It indicates a cultural change that develops in society. Therefore, the meaning of ambyar expands as evident by the results of interviews that illustrate the positive meaning of ambyar in events, food, and activities. In contrast, it remains negative in the context of politics, education, and love
Post-feminist Discourses in Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Get PDFThis research analyzes feminist success in post-feminist discourse related to neoliberalism in the Hollywood film industry through The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This research aims to reveal how Evelyn's actions within the neoliberalism framework criticize the discourse of post-feminism. Postfeminism emerged as a response to feminism, suggesting that women can embrace traditional feminine roles while still feeling empowered and in control, as post-feminism believes that feminism has largely achieved its goals. Angela McRobbie's post-feminism theory is used to analyze the novel because it identifies the form of neoliberal practice in post-feminism. The results show that the success of neoliberal feminists portrayed by Evelyn is false because the dominance of neoliberalism practices still idealizes a heterosexual matrix with seven marriages possible in the Hollywood industry. Women are capitalized as sexual objects for heterosexual audiences for neoliberal interests. Women must comply with these two things through the sexual contract by participating in the fashion beauty complex to survive in the work environment. The resulting impact is that women then repress their gender identity and discipline it to fit the industry's logic. This discourse is disseminated in the novel as a social discourse even though the author's critical position seeks to reject the application of heteronormativity in the novel and also the social practices of the Hollywood industry

Peran tersebut dia jalankan secara mandiri hingga membuahkan hasil dengan terbentuknya sebuah yayasan bernama Hati Suci dan beroperasi hingga saat ini. Penelitian ini menjawab dua pertanyaan rumusan masalah. Pertama, mengapa Yayasan Hati Suci dan Rumah Piatu Hati Suci didirikan? Kedua, apa dampak dari karya sosial Auw Tjoie Lan bagi Hindia Belanda. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode sejarah untuk menguji dan menganalisis peristiwa sejarah yang di teliti masih relevan dengan masa kini, selain itu sebagai sejarawan harus bisa mengkritisi sumber sejarah dan peninggalan dan di uji melalui penulisan historiografi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peran Auw Tjoie Lan tidak hanya menyelamatkan kaum perempuan dan anak-anak dari perdagangan manusia, tetapi juga memberantas buta huruf dan kesetaraan gender untuk kaum perempuan
L2 SELF-CONFIDENCE: AN EXAMINATION OF INDONESIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN VARIOUS ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES CLASSES
Get PDFThe study aims to investigate second/foreign language (L2) confidence of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learners. It employed a survey method. It involved 213 ESP learners from five different departments. Using descriptive statistics on SPSS, the study found a low-moderate level of L2 self-confidence among the participants. They reported interest in engaging in speaking activities in ESP classes. Nonetheless, they reported low L2 self-confidence regarding giving opinions and leading discussions in English and a low perception of their language competence in general. This low level of confidence could be attributed to the nature of ESP classes, which necessitate learners to study discipline-related vocabulary and language expressions, as well as several general aspects of L2 learning, such as pronunciation and grammar. Implications include encouraging ESP teachers to conduct more small-group-scale activities. That is to boost learners' confidence, increase learner-talk, and provide a safe environment for less confident learners to engage in the activities. This study contributes to the understanding of Indonesian ESP learners' self-confidence, and this could inform future studies involving ESP learners in Indonesia. Future quantitative studies on L2 confidence could use more representative samples. It is also strategic to conduct a mixed-methods study involving ESP teachers to allow triangulation
PENGGUNAAN ALAT PERAGA SEDERHANA UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MATEMATIKA SISWA
Get PDFMathematics is one of the subjects that students are rarely interested in. The material in mathematics lessons is also abstract. So that most students find it difficult to understand mathematics. Therefore, a tool is needed in understanding mathematical material so that students have no difficulty in learning the problem. One of the tools or media that can be used to help students is by using teaching aids. Props used in community service activities include the mean, median, and mode boards; number line integer arithmetic operations; corner clock; and the number plate to the power of two. This community service activity was carried out in the Tenda study group, Ruteng. The duration of this activity is 3 months. The method used in this mentoring is to use the method of demonstration, discussion, question and answer and the practice of using teaching aids. The results of community service carried out are students feel helped in understanding mathematics subject matter and students feel happy because they experience fun learning. Students also find it easier to understand mathematics subject matter which is indicated by the scores obtained by students when working on practice questions related to mathematics material through the questions given by the community service team which has increased and students are enthusiastic in working on practical questions using math teaching aids. Thus, it can be concluded that community service activities through the use of teaching aids have succeeded in helping students overcome difficulties in understanding mathematics

Get PDFUsers of the Financial System in this community service activity are Congregation of Sisters of Charity of Noble Blood (ADM). They have a variety of ages and educational backgrounds, so most users do not really understand how to operate and categorize transactions according to transaction codes. This activity is held to help users using the Financial System by making digital guides. The method used is this activity is the discussion method by evaluating the Financial System which has been used in exploring problems, making digital guides (documents and videos), adding digital guides to the Financial System, and socializing the Financial System which has added digital guides. As a result, there are two digital guidance documents. The first is a Chart of Account (COA) book which contains transaction codes and the second is a Manual Book which contains how to operate the Financial System. The other results, there are two video tutorials that explain the entire operation method and especially, the transaction and report sections. The digital guide that has been added to the Financial System is quite helpful for users in operating it, where 13 respondents gave the most ratings in very good, good, and good enough conditions

Get PDFThis social contribution with the theme "Ecokids: Green Adventures Towards a Better Environment" was the result of the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM). The community service activities were a real-life implementation of knowledge and experience of the Nusantara Module course. The PMM Batch 4 Inbound students at Samudra University, specifically group 1 “Seumantok” chose an elementary school as the community partner to carry out their service. From the initial survey conducted at school, some students did not understand the importance of environmental awareness and had low knowledge of sorting waste. The participants were 3rd grade elementary school students. The method used was by conducting education with presentations in class and using flip book learning media, games, and open discussions with the students. The results found that grade 3 students were able to learn about awareness and concern for keeping the environment cleaner. Apart from that, students were quite enthusiastic and could sort waste according to the type of waste, namely organic waste and inorganic waste

Secara umum devosi merupakan bentuk penghormatan atau sikap bakti seseorang yang ditujukan kepada para kudus dan berpusat pada Yesus Kristus. Devosi membawa seseorang untuk meneladan cara hidup para kudus dan semakin mengalami kesatuan dengan Kristus. Doa Rosario adalah doa renungan tentang misteri hidup Yesus Kristus. Penelitian berjenis kualitatif ini dilaksanakan di Paroki Santo Petrus dan Paulus Babadan Yogyakarta. Data dikumpulkan melalui metode wawancara yang di validasi dengan Focus Group Discussion selanjutnya dicarikan penguatan dengan kuesioner terbuka, dan studi dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Doa Rosario dilakukan oleh Orang Muda Katolik Paroki St Petrus lebih berdasarkan pada tradisi yakni pada Bulan Mei dan Oktober, dorongan berdoa Roasario secara pribadi muncul ketika menghadapi permasalahan hidup. Sehingga doa Rosario lebih dihayati sebagai doa permohonan daripada doa renung. Oleh sebab dihayati sebagai doa permohonan, misteri hidup Yesus Kristus dalam doa Rosario belum terenungkan oleh Orang Muda Katolik. Transformasi Komunitas Stand Up Comedy Jogja di Era Digital
No full textThis research aims to delve into the changes occurring within the stand-up comedy community in the face of the digital transformation that has permeated various aspects of life. Through in-depth interviews with comedians and observations on various social media platforms, this study demonstrates that digital technology has become a crucial space for the development of the stand-up comedy community. Additionally, utilizing a qualitative approach, the research explores the perspectives of performers and stand-up comedy practitioners on how digital technology affects interactive processes within this community. The findings highlight the need for alignment between the use of technology and the preservation of the essence of stand-up comedy as an art form. Key factors in ensuring the success of the stand-up comedy community in the digital era include building a strong collaborative network from within the community, aligning technology with stand-up comedy, and adapting to technological changes. This research hopes to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of the stand-up comedy community in the digital era while providing guidelines for comedians and community managers to maximize the potential of technology in enriching the expression of stand-up comedy as an art form
WHEN IN STELLIS: AN AUTO-ARCHAEOLOGY OF A DIGITAL ARTIFACT COLLECTION FROM TEARS OF THEMIS
Get PDFPrimarily, this research aimed to appraise and discover how a 21st-century Filipino object owner collocates meaning with digital artifacts and identify what cultural underpinnings influence the affinity with these things. Two novel ideas in contemporary archaeology were utilized in this study: (1) auto-archaeology, a method of employing archaeological analysis on one's objects, and; (2) archaeogaming, which treats digitally constructed objects as artifacts (Reindhard, 2018). Using these postmodern perspectives, I conducted an auto-archaeology of my collection of digital artifacts from the game Tears of Themis (COGNOSPHERE, 2020) and aimed to unearth a retelling of my recent past as a posthuman Filipino. Informed largely by Ellersdorfer's (2021) autoethnographic archaeology and Woods' (2022) gacha game discourse, my case study involved extracting memories from select pieces from my collection of digital artifacts. Findings reveal that not only can these objects reconstruct their distinct semiotic context through the game design, story of acquisition, and in-game usage but also deconstruct off-game contexts that are personally attached by an individual owner to its immateriality through perception and affective embedding. In so doing, the digital artifacts amplify the different voices inscribed within each artifact in its decontextualized form as a unit in a rhizomatic network of digital objects
