The Good German? German Colonial Fantasies in Indonesia in Rudolf Utsch’s Trilogy
The relationship between Germany and Asia is characterized by its complexity and uniqueness. Unlike other European nations, Germany established close connections with Asia by drawing inspiration from its rich cultural heritage. Germany’s historical background, being overpowered and defeated by France at the beginning of its formation to nationhood, led German thinkers and philosophers to seek sources of national self-identity other than those imbued with antiquity and Western culture. Germany's perception of itself about the East (as well as other regions) can be understood through the lens of German colonial fantasies, which depict Germany as a benevolent colonizer capable of establishing harmonious colonies. This concept of colonial fantasy is dynamic and evolves in line with German historical stages. In this study, we will examine Rudolf Utsch's three-part series of German adolescent adventure texts set in Indonesia by employing a textual analysis approach and focusing on the concept of colonial fantasy by Susanne Zantop. The research outcomes suggest that both German characters were depicted as benevolent colonizers, yet their efforts to establish a harmonious colony proved unsuccessful. Several biases stemming from colonial fantasies are discovered, including gender bias, the marginalization of local characters, and an imbalance in the portrayal of space and location

Ghost (Absentee) Land as the Symptom of Socio-Economic Transformation in the Rural Communities of East Lombok
The reality and practice of rural Indonesian society are always interesting to study, especially with respect to the issue of land ownership and livelihood systems related to the agricultural world. The second aspect seems to be related to their worldview, according to which land is proof of wealth that must be guarded until death or passed on to their children and grandchildren. However, with the increase in the necessities of life in the modern era, that view began to change. Land has now become an asset that can be bought and sold, and an investment that is full of interests in reorganizing space for the purposes of modern capitalism. Ghost (absentee) lands with unclear ownership or across regional boundaries are present amidst poverty. Conflicts of ownership and resolution of spatial reorganization are a continuation of the process of “ghost land transactions.” This paper attempts to reveal the existence of ghost land and its influence on the socio-economic transformation of rural communities in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Using qualitative ethnographic methods, including in-depth interviews with twenty informants and direct observation of related aspects, it was found that the phenomenon of ghost land is an inseparable part of community life. Ghost lands are caused by cross-regional sales, nominee purchases, and hidden interests in the reorganization of modern non-agricultural space. Emically, the existence of ghost land is a symptom (marker) of poverty in a society that is trying to adjust to the greed and interests of modern capitalism

The method used in this study is the grab sampling method in front mining and stockpile. The results of this study are based on the results of the analysis, obtained data on the levels of Ni, Fe, MgO and SiO2 on the mining front with a stockpile, the Ni content has a difference of 0.05% and the Fe content has a difference of 0.34%, the two minerals have the highest grades on the mining front. mining and MgO content has a difference of 2.68% and SiO2 content has a difference of 8.87%, the two minerals have the highest grade in the stockpile. Factors that influence changes in nickel content are the heterogeneous distribution of ore, the position of the waste above the ore and the rainy weather that occurs in the field, operator and sampling skills
Peran Agama dalam Demokrasi dari Perspektif Fukuyama dan Kontekstualisasinya bagi Politik di Indonesia
Religion and democracy are frequently opposed in terms of the power legitimacy system. The basis of power legitimacy from religious perspective comes from above or from God Himself, while the basis of power legitimacy from democratic perspective comes from below or from the people. Religion uses reasoning of faith or belief, while democracy uses rational reasoning. Fukuyama contends that the liberal democratic system is the most appropriate system of power legitimacy for a modern secular society. In the context of Indonesian politics, religion and democracy cannot be separated simply because the people involved in democracy are people who believe in God and are religious as well. Indonesian society is a religious society that uses a democratic system to legitimize power. The experience of religion has been integrated into all aspects of Indonesian life including social and political life. However, religion has never been the basis for governing the country. In this study, the researcher specifically investigates the role of religion in the democratic process from Fukuyama's perspective. The research issues are: 1) what is the contribution of religion in the practice of democracy, 2) what are the limits of religious involvement in the practice of democracy, 3) how is its contextualization in the practice of democracy in Indonesia which has its own characteristics in religious plurality. This research is a literature study of Fukuyama works from 1992 to 2018 which discusses the dynamics of state and religious relations. The purpose of the study is to provide a critical assessment of the role of religion in the practice of democracy in Indonesia from the Fukuyama perspective. Religion is a symbol of the presence of The Transcendent. With the presence of religion, humans are still reminded that there is a higher power than worldly power so that humans are not arbitrary in exercising their political power. Therefore, religion must maintain its position outside the practice of democracy. When religion is involved practically in political power, religion will be placed under human power and used as a means of legitimacy of power.
SPIRITUALITAS IGNASIAN MEMANDANG PENDERITAAN
Ignatian spirituality places particular emphasis on the meaning of suffering as a means of drawing closer to Christ. In the teachings of Ignatius Loyola, suffering is not seen as an end in itself, but as a path to respond to Christ’s call with fidelity. Through meditations such as The Call of the King and The Meditation on Two Standards, retreat participants are invited to understand suffering as an integral part of a life centered on God, where suffering becomes a way to experience a deeper connection with the Christ who suffered. In this context, suffering is not sought for its own sake, but as an expression of detachment and willingness to follow God’s will in all circumstances. By accepting suffering, one experiences the liberating love of God, leading to inner transformation and a deeper understanding of faith. Ignatian spirituality thus places suffering as an essential part of the spiritual journey, guiding the individual to a more meaningful life in unity with Christ
THE BOY, HIS TEACHER AND THE LINGUIST: LEARNING TURKISH WITH AESOP FABLES
Can we Aesopianise other languages? This is what this article is about. You must be familiar with the fable of the Fox and the Grapes. Arent you? Its popularity has crossed the borders and became one of the most shared fables in the world. That popularity (1) is in fact an asset for linguists to implement the linguistic context predictability (2) using narratives. On the other hand, borrowings (3) and collocational patterns (4) can be of paramount importance to unlocking linguistically related languages. Therefore, it would be interesting to approach fables through specific strategies to try to guess familiar texts in context. To test this novel approach, we invited ten master students to participate in an experiment where they were asked to perform a series of tasks using the four linguistic tools in a game-like exercise. The results showed that participants succeeded in the post-test 26.09% of the lexicon found in ten popular fables -which is for sure not excellent but highly encouraging- when compared with that little 2.94% in the pre-test. Furthermore, the study implies that linguistic awareness preceded by cultural awareness could be a significantly powerful tool for learning any foreign language
ENHANCING EFL LEARNERS' SPEAKING ABILITIES THROUGH THE USE OF PODCASTS AND ONLINE DRAMA SCRIPTS
It is crucial to communicate using a language. However, a lot of EFL students had trouble expressing their ideas. 25 freshmen joined the therapy to make it better. To improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process, the teacher created a WhatsApp group application during pre-learning. The instructor guided the pupils in creating sentences by teaching them the lexico-grammar of bilingualism. The teacher displayed the podcast's URL on the screen to help students coordinate their contextual usage. Using this kind of content, the students improved their noticing, listening, repeating, shadowing, and translating skills. It is the audio and video version of the podcast. The pupils must improve their capacity for information exchange. In order to appease them, the instructor displayed the URL of an online drama script on the screen. The pupils rehearsed the role play in order to finish the assignment. The study's results were then qualitatively examined. As a result of using podcasts and online theatrical scripts to study speaking, the students' capacity for presenting ideas increased. The novelty is this approach leverages the power of multimedia to create an engaging and authentic learning experience that goes beyond traditional classroom activities. Teachers must use these kinds of findings when instructing related subjects. It also encourages other researchers to carry out studies in related disciplines
