An Autobiography but Not Quite: The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman as a Parody
This article examines Ernest J. Gaines' The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1972) as a parody and critique of dominant cultural narratives. Combining close reading with biographical criticism, which contextualizes the novel through Gaines’ socio-cultural background as an African American author. Drawing on Bakhtin’s and Hannoosh’s theories of parody and Gates’ concept of chiasmus, the analysis explores how the novel imitates, transforms, and subverts its targets. Bhabha’s notion of mimicry situates parody within postcolonial discourse, while Genette’s theory of frequency analyzes the novel’s repetitive narrative structures. Ashcroft, Griffiths, and Tiffin’s concepts of appropriation and abrogation address Gaines’ use of English, shaped by his identity as a Black writer from Louisiana and his California education. Bakhtin’s heteroglossia highlights the novel’s polyphonic structure, reflecting its diverse voices. Ong’s theories of orality and literacy contrast Louisiana’s oral traditions with Gaines’ literary techniques. Interviews with Gaudet and Wooton reveal the influence of white literary traditions on Gaines, situating him within African American literary frameworks. Loomba’s critique of colonial discourse positions the novel as a subversive response to white supremacy. Thus, the objective of this study is to demonstrate that Gaines uses parody in the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman as both a literary form and an ideological tool to challenge hegemonic narratives and amplify African American voices
Effectiveness of Nano Spray From Extract of Kelubut Leaf (Passiflora foetida L.) as Antibiofilm on catheters of Patients with Urinary Tract Infection
Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) have increased significantly every year. Approximately 70-80% of these infections involve biofilms. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of nano spray formula of kelubut leaf extract in inhibiting and eradicating biofilm formation on catheters. Kelubut (Passiflora foetida L.) leaf extract was obtained through maceration process to obtain useful compounds. Antibiofilm activity was assessed using microbroth dilution, with scanning electron microscopy for visualization. The nano spray formulation activity of kelubut (Passiflora foetida L.) leaf extract was able to inhibit biofilm growth by (77.74% ± 0.01), while ciprofloxacin was slightly more effective with a value of (80.22% ± 0.01). SEM analysis confirmed the ability of the kelubut leaf extract nanospray formulation to inhibit and damage Escherichia coli biofilms. The nano spray formulation of kelubut leaf extract (Passiflora foetida L.) coded NS1 is able to inhibit biofilm formation activity on catheters and has the potential to be developed as an antibiofilm candidate against bacteria that cause urinary tract infections
Problem of Proving The Existence of God: A Review and Comments on The Proof of Thomas Aquinas
This study focuses on the problem of proving the existence of God, offering a review and analysis of Thomas Aquinas' arguments. Aquinas' arguments are presented within the broader framework of theological knowledge, characterized by a highly systematic and detailed approach to proof. Additionally, this paper discusses the perspectives of several scholars who have examined and interpreted Aquinas' arguments on the existence of God. While some of their perspectives share similarities with Aquinas' reasoning, they also introduce differing elements based on their respective viewpoints. This research employs a library-based methodology using hermeneutic phenomenology, which involves collecting, analyzing, organizing, and interpreting relevant literature as well as reflections on faith in God. The primary sources of this study include Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologiae, while secondary sources provide further context and analysis. The findings of this study indicate that the concept of analogy in Aquinas' argument serves to illustrate a new mode of action that transcends the hierarchical levels of created beings. Aquinas begins his reasoning from a horizontal perspective and subsequently shifts it to a vertical dimension, unveiling a spiritual aspect that revitalizes both life and faith in God.farminggroup.orgmaterassomemory.orgvisualresearchnetwork.orgbrazoriafumc.orgatmamayor.comviralblasts.combloomboomdelivery.co
Paham Ketuhanan dalam Kepercayaan Dewi Ibu (Đạo Mẫu) pada Masyarakat Adat di Vietnam
There are many religions and beliefs in the world. Among them, we must mention five major religions such as Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. Besides these major religions, other religious beliefs still exist, namely the Đạo Mẫu Belief, Thờ Kính Tổ Tiên Belief (ancestor worship belief), Thờ Trời Belief, and others. These beliefs often originate from local cultures. Although belief is not as universal and strong as religion, it is imbued with the characteristics and identity of indigenous people's belief in a Supreme Being. In this article, the writer will clarify the identity of indigenous people's belief in their own beliefs, specifically the Mother Goddess belief (Đạo Mẫu) of the Vietnamese people. Fratelli Tutti Paus Fransiskus dan Implikasinya Dalam Forum Dialog Lintas Agama di Indonesia
Religion is often misused by those in power and by individuals who are easily influenced by them for certain interests. The visible consequences of such misuse include hate speech, hostility, violence, warfare, intimidation, and a tendency to seek out those deemed 'most perfect.' In Indonesia, numerous cases of religious intolerance continue to occur. In response to these challenges, this review aims to explore the message of peace offered by Pope Francis in his encyclical Fratelli Tutti. The purpose of this study is to explain the implementation and response of interfaith dialogue forums in Indonesia to the teachings contained in Fratelli Tutti. This study employs a literature review method, using the Fratelli Tutti encyclical as the primary reference, along with several other supporting sources. The results indicate that the application of the Fratelli Tutti message in Indonesia has been positively received by society, particularly through both academic and non-academic forums of discussion. It is hoped that the values promoted by Fratelli Tutti will continue to take root and grow, fostering a generation of Indonesians who are more capable of adapting to and embracing religious diversity, and who are open to engaging in interfaith dialogue. For it is only through genuine dialogue that true peace can be achieved.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the changing circumstances that followed can disrupt grieving process and lead to maladaptive grief. Emerging adults who experience parental death are vulnerable since loss at this age tends to be unanticipated and potentially disrupt the development process. Nevertheless, a loss can produce positive changes called posttraumatic growth (PTG) as a result of the struggle facing adversity. This study examines the process of PTG by looking at personality traits and grief rumination and using a qualitative approach. Three emerging adults aged 25-26 years who experienced parental death during the pandemic were involved and selected using purposive sampling. Data was collected mainly by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by thematic analysis. Results indicated that PTG is a complex process, unique to each individual, and involving substantial cognitive processing. The dynamics of personality traits and grief rumination also play a role. Positive and reinforcing personality traits, such as conscientiousness, openness to experience, extraversion, and agreeableness, can help participants overcome grief and experience positive changes after loss. Meanwhile, neuroticism was found to hinder PTG. Furthermore, meaning in grief rumination plays the most prominent role to determine the process of PTG in the participants of this study. The ability to see a positive meaning from the loss helps to achieve PTG and conversely the tendency to think of the negative meaning can inhibit PTG. Thus, intervention given to emerging adults who have lost their parents should target grief rumination, especially aspect of meaning, and take into account differences in individual personality traits

Lecturers’ Feedback as a Tool of Power: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Lecturer Feedback in Classrooms
The types of conversations we hold or avoid with students determine the relationship that we design in our class. Lecturer feedback plays a central role in shaping the learning process, but it also functions as a site where power dynamics are enacted. This paper explores the power relations embedded in language used in lecturer feedback through the lens of critical discourse analysis (CDA). By analyzing how feedback positions students and constructs their identities, this study seeks to uncover the implicit hierarchies and authority structures present in the classroom discourse of the English Literature Study Program Class. The analysis relies on five power bases: referent, reward, expert, legitimate, and coercive. The data were collected by observing six classroom sessions during this time, and feedback instances were transcribed and compiled. In total, approximately 30 feedback examples were selected for in-depth analysis. These include both oral and written feedback that was considered representative of recurring discursive features. The finding shows that lecturer feedback not only reflects power dynamics but also influences the construction of student identity. Furthermore, the feedback that the lecturer provided negatively impacted the learning behavior due to overusing antisocial-based language, which included legitimate and coercive feedback. This feedback also built the students’ identity as incapable learners
Selaras Tapi Tak Setara: Tegangan Antara Kajian Queer dan Kajian Budaya di Indonesia
Queer Studies and Cultural Studies are closely intertwined, each offering valuable perspectives on the relationship between power, identity, and social norms. Both fields emerged as responses to marginalization, challenging dominant social and political norms. However, unlike Cultural Studies in Indonesia, Queer Studies has yet to establish a strong academic presence. The primary obstacle is the political and social climate, which restricts space for queer discourse in both public and academic arenas. Despite this, queer knowledge continues to evolve in Indonesia, often woven into gender studies, literature, and cultural studies, and more prominently, outside of academia. These conditions, combined with the absence of a formal curriculum, make it challenging to develop Queer Studies cohesively in Indonesia. This paper adopts a scoping review approach, interwoven with personal reflections drawn from my experiences as a researcher situated across two academic realities—Indonesia and abroad—as well as from a decade of engagement with fellow queer scholars in both contexts. It opens by mapping by tracing the development of Queer Studies at transnational, regional, and national levels. The discussion then focuses on the dynamic interplay between Queer Studies and Cultural Studies in Indonesia. Through this inquiry, it becomes evident that the relationship between the two not only reflects a mutually enriching intellectual exchange but also reveals tensions that mirror power dynamics in the production of knowledge. These tensions take hold not only at the discursive level, but also in material, institutional, and affective forms.
