BOOK REVIEW: AI IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TEACHING: THEORY AND PRACTICE BY MARCEL DANESI
In AI in Foreign Language Learning and Teaching: Theory and Practice, Marcel Danesi underscores the ramifications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including the use of tools like ChatGPT, on Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) and its critical components: language acquisition and teaching. Danesi covers several aspects of FLT to speak, write and assess, voicing their greatest concerns on the impact of AI. Danesi provides a balanced view, considering both the advantages and challenges of dependence on AI in language education. He articulates important ethical arguments on the impact of AI in education, particularly its failure to address students’ emotional and contextual concerns, while highlighting the gap human instructors fill. In addition, the book provides synthesis of the frameworks on the use AI technologies and pedagogical tools to improve FLT while maintaining the human dimension of teaching
INOVASI PERTANIAN BERKELANJUTAN: PELATIHAN PESTISIDA NABATI DAUN MIMBA UNTUK PETANI DI DESA LOWAYU, GRESIK
The agricultural sector in Indonesia plays a crucial role in food security and the national economy. However, farmers face significant challenges related to pest and disease management. Excessive use of synthetic pesticides contributes to pest resistance, environmental pollution, and health risks. Amid global trends towards sustainable agriculture and organic products, Lowayu village, in East Java, faces issues such as limited water resources, resistant pest attacks, and high dependence on chemical inputs. The abundant potential of neem trees (Azadirachta indica) in the village offers an alternative solution as a botanical pesticide. This community service program aims to empower farmers in Lowayu by training them to produce botanical pesticides from neem leaves. The training, conducted by a team from Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program of Universitas Islam Darul 'Ulum Lamongan, involved problem screening, strategy formulation, experimentation, training, and evaluation. The results show high enthusiasm from participants, with 80% understanding the material well and 60% expressing interest in applying the method. Despite challenges such as variability in effectiveness and product consistency, this botanical pesticide's economic and environmental benefits are significant. This program successfully increased farmers' awareness of eco-friendly alternatives and provided a foundation for further development
DINAMIKA ATTRITIO-CONTRITIO DALAM MINGGU PERTAMA LATIHAN ROHANI ST. IGNATIUS LOYOLA
Members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) are formed with a self-understanding as sinners loved by God. God’s love is the first and foremost impetus for transforming a sinner to repent. This self-image is cultivated through their formative experiences, particularly during the 30-day retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises (SE) of St. Ignatius of Loyola. This article presents the results of a literature-based study of the First Week of the SE. In this section, Ignatius guides retreatants to understand conversion as a dynamic transition from attritio to contritio. The meditative materials provided by Ignatius are intentionally designed to lead retreatants to a deep sense of horror and sorrow for their personal sins, while simultaneously reminding them that they are always loved by God. This approach is rooted in St. Ignatius’ own experience of conversion, especially during his time of ascetic practices in the town of Manresa between 1522 and 1523

Focolare As An Instrument for Unity Toward A Cohesive Society in IndonesiaA
The research focuses on social cohesive elements in the Focolare movement in Indonesia which attribute unity to their surroundings. Inclusion, a sense of belonging, recognition, and active participation create bonds among its members and sympathisers. The Focolare movement attracts those who strive to minimise every division to achieve its goal “may all be one” by collectively living the spirituality of unity despite their varied identities and experiences. This research seeks to understand the definition of unity which puts Focolare as one family. It aims to recognise how members’ engagement and participation enhance mutual understanding, empathy, and respect, to create unity. This unity is seen as a social cohesion in the society, within and outside the movement. The case study is conducted on a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews, with people of three religions who practise Focolare spirituality in their daily lives in Indonesia. The research finds several relational paths which help the creation of unity in Focolare, resulting as instruments for unity. The paths take form in three cohesive elements; social relations, identification, and participation toward common goods. The acknowledgement of other religious traditions and the reflection on seeing the world as one family enable the acceptance of shared values. Those who are willing to work toward unity underline the importance of inclusion, the sense of one family, recognition of differences at open forums, and concrete programs of formation in and among religious communities. It later encourages the intercultural and interreligious relation toward cohesion in the society of diverse Indonesia
Evaluation of the Level of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of High School Students in the City of Pekanbaru in the Use of Antibiotics
The high use of antibiotics in the community will lead to resistance. According to the results of studies in Indonesia, the problem of antibiotic resistance is very complex and will continue to increase every year. Infectious diseases account for more than 13 million deaths per year in developing countries. Wise and rational use of antibiotics can reduce the disease burden, especially infectious diseases. Conversely, the widespread use of antibiotics that do not match the indications significantly increases antibiotic resistance. Students must know the proper use of antibiotics so as not to develop antibiotic resistance. They do not know much or fully understand antibiotics during the transition from childhood to adulthood. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of SMAN Se-Kota Pekanbaru students in the use of antibiotics. This research uses a descriptive survey method with 360 respondents. Data analysis was done using a chi-square test with a significance level of p 0.05. The results of this study showed that there were students with good knowledge (67%), with some who showed a positive attitude (75%), and less behavior in the use of antibiotics (74%). The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between attitudes and antibiotic use behavior with a p-value of 0.001 (p 0.005). While the level of knowledge and attitude had a p-value of 0.605 (p 0.05) and the level of knowledge and behavior had a p-value of 0.118 (p 0.05), indicating there was no significant relationship. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between students' knowledge with attitudes and behavior in the use of antibiotics, and there is a significant relationship between attitudes and student behavior in the use of antibiotics
Transapokaliptika: “Setelah-Kiamat” Tidak Ada Kajian Budaya
This paper examines Cultural Studies from a historical perspective, emphasizing its role as an intellectual project that emerges from social crises and structural antagonisms. Spanning its development from the 1960s to the contemporary period (1990–2025), the paper shows that neoliberal capitalism is not merely an economic project, but one that has also permeated education, healthcare, religion, art, and everyday life, forming circuits of commodification and capital accumulation. In response to discourses on global ecological crisis, Cultural Studies is framed not as a passive academic discipline, but as an interdisciplinary practice that thrives on contradiction, understanding “apocalypse” not as a singular event but as a historical, simultaneous, and rhizomatic condition that shapes human experience in the era of globalization and platform capitalism. Introducing “transapocalyptic” as a term for a comprehensive crisis produced by neoliberalism’s penetration into all spheres of life, this paper rejects the notion of a “post-apocalypse” by positioning it as a utopia construct. Accordingly, Cultural Studies functions as a tool for reflection and critique that enables survival amid contemporary social, ecological, and symbolic crises while reminding us that the journey toward a fully emancipatory order is always “not yet”, for beyond utopia, a truly “post-apocalyptic” world does not exist.
