Minor Characters’ Influences on Belly’s Emotional Maturity in Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty
Emotional maturity plays a significant role in the behavior of individuals. Jenny Han’s novel The Summer I Turned Pretty depicts emotional maturity through its characters. This study aims to analyze the influences of minor characters on the main character’s emotional maturity, formulated through the question: “What are the influences that the minor characters bring toward Belly’s emotional maturity?”. To answer the question, the writers applied the theory of emotional maturity. This study employed the New Criticism approach along with the close reading method, as it dealt with the theory of emotional maturity. Data were collected using a library research technique, in which the novel served as a primary source, while supporting books, journals, and articles were used as secondary sources. The findings of this study revealed that Conrad, Jeremiah, and Susannah, as the minor characters, significantly influenced Belly’s emotional maturity. Belly underwent five levels of FitzMaurice’s emotional maturity, namely: emotional responsibility, honesty, openness, assertiveness, and understanding. These five levels of emotional maturity experienced by Belly were influenced by Conrad, Jeremiah, and Susannah. By understanding the development of Belly’s emotional maturity, the readers can reflect on themselves and apply the positive behaviors exhibited by Belly
Bukan Korban, tetapi Rizom: Koreografi Ketahanan Tubuh Migran di Reruntuhan Kapitalisme Taiwan
This article challenges dominant narratives that position Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan as passive victims of global capitalism. Drawing on a three-year performative ethnography (2022–2024) combined with critical digital content analysis, the study develops the concept of choreographies of resilience to examine how migrant bodies claim space, time, and meaning under highly restrictive living conditions. The analysis focuses on two interrelated everyday practices: the transformation of cramped dormitory rooms into virtual stages, and the phenomenon of sholawat dance as an expression of kinesthetic piety. By framing Taiwan as a landscape of “capitalist ruins” (Anna Tsing), the study demonstrates that these practices enact forms of agency that are not necessarily resistive, but instead operate through the creative inhabitation of norms (Saba Mahmood) and bodily performativity (Judith Butler). The findings show that digital choreographic practices function both as survival tactics (Michel de Certeau) and as a politics of visibility. Platforms such as TikTok operate as ambivalent contact zones (Mary Louise Pratt): while embedded within the logics of platform capitalism (Nick Srnicek), they nevertheless enable the formation of collective bodily archives, affective networks, and alternative cultural spaces. The study argues that migrant bodily resilience is contextual, embodied, and rooted in everyday practice.
VOICE IN ACADEMIC WRITING: THE TRANSPOSITIONING OF AUTHOR IDENTITY IN RESPONDING TO MANUSCRIPT BLIND REVIEWERS
Voice as one of vital elements in academic writing can impinge upon the quality of one’s writing. Despite robust controversies over the usefulness of this metaphorical notion, a plethora of studies on voice has contributed to our understanding of its role in determining writing quality. The foci of these studies, however, are constricted on either voice as individual or voice as social, ignoring the perspective of voice as dialogic. This case study investigates the written reviews of a manuscript author by four blind reviewers in different international Scopus-indexed journals. Drawing on the ideas of “voice as dialogic” and of “transpositioning” of identity, this study seeks to identify and to examine the authorial strategies of an author in constructing his own voice in textual realizations as responses to the manuscript blind reviewers. In doing so, it attempts to finds out the author’s writing identity as manifested in the texts constructed. Relativism’s methodology was employed in order to provide the construction of certain phenomena (i.e. dialogical voice) as accurately as possible. Results revealed that the manuscript author employed two key authorial strategies: averring established authority and foregrounding the ecologies of knowledges.
TEACHER SELF-EFFICACY IN RURAL THAILAND: INSIGHTS FROM PRE-SERVICE ENGLISH TEACHERS’ PRACTICUM EXPERIENCES
This qualitative case study investigates how pre-service English teachers (PSETs) develop teacher self-efficacy (TSE) during teaching practicums in Thai rural schools. Grounded in Bandura’s social cognitive theory, the study examines the role of mastery experiences, vicarious learning, social and verbal persuasion, and emotional states in shaping TSE. Six final-year PSETs from a northern Thai university were purposefully selected to represent diverse perceptions of efficacy. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and self-reflections, and analyzed inductively using a multi-phase coding process. The results reveal that PSETs’ self-efficacy developed through a dynamic and non-linear process. At the beginning, participants experienced mixed emotions and “reality shock,” including resource shortages, multigrade classes, and limited mentorship. Over time, their TSE was strengthened through instructional successes, modeling from experienced teachers and peers, constructive feedback, and emotional resilience. These findings contribute to teacher education research by deepening understanding of TSE development in under-resourced contexts and offering practical implications for designing practicum programs that build professional competence and identity. It also highlights the need for teacher education to prepare PSETs for rural placements, equip mentors to provide targeted support, and promote reflective practices for emotional resilience

Design of a Speed Sensorless Control System on a DC Motor using a PID Controller
The speed sensorless control system on a DC motor is a DC motor speed control system that does not use a speed sensor to measure the motor speed. The motor speed value is estimated by an observer from the stator current and voltage that are measured using a sensor. This study uses an R observer method. The difference between the estimated speed and the reference speed is then used by the PID controller to adjust the motor speed to match the desired reference speed. PID parameter tuning using heuristic method. With a setpoint of 6800 RPM and using a combination of Kp = 0.5, Ki = 0.05, and Kd = 0.34, a speed value of 6792.76 RPM was obtained. Sensorless motor speed control using a PID controller produces an optimal system with a low Steady State Error (SSE) value of around 0.1%, very small oscillations of 0.39%, a fast rise time of 4 seconds, and a fast settling time of 6 seconds
Improving the Accuracy of Prediction of Dissolved Oxygen and Nitrate Level Using LSTM with K-Means Clustering and Spearman Analysis
This study discusses how to prepare data properly before entering the learning process for prediction using Deep Learning (DL). Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is one of the DL methods that is often used for prediction because of its superiority in maintaining long-term information. Although LSTM has proven effective, there are issues related to low-quality data that can reduce prediction accuracy. This problem is important to discuss because accuracy is important in predicting a value while field conditions can reduce the quality of the data taken. Data merging based on the relationship of each data collection location using the Spearman analysis and the K-Means clustering method is used to improve data quality. The results of the study show that improving data quality by merging data using K-Means has been successfully applied to various dataset conditions. In this study, we used two types of datasets related to river water quality, namely Dissolved Oxygen (DO) concentration and Nitrate levels for our simulation. The first data set produced DO predictions for eight locations with an average R2 = 0.9998, MAE = 0.0007, MSE = 1,13×10-6. The second data set produced nitrate predictions for ten locations with an average R2 = 0.7337, MAE = 0.0111, MSE = 0,0002
Coconut Shell-Based Briquettes for Sustainable Energy: A Bibliometric Study on Biomass Mixtures and Binder Materials
Coconut shell is one of the potential biomass resources that has been widely developed as a raw material for briquettes to support renewable energy initiatives and circular economy practices. This study aimed to explore the development, research focus, and future directions of cocomut shell briquette through a systematic literature review. The Methodi Ordinatio approach was employed for analysis, resulting in a final portfolio of 134 selected documents, which were the further examined to identify trends and research gaps. The findings showed that mixturing coconut shell with other biomass such as from wood-based and agricultural-based residues could enhance the briquette performance. Moreover, alternative binders such as lignocellulosic carbohydrate and its derivatives, plant sap, and waste cooking oil offered promising subsitutes for food-based materials. Oily biomass, such as eucalyptus wastes and pine resin, was also found to improve briquette performance due to its volatile content. In addition, the integration of automation technologies based on microcontrolers and the Internet of Things (IoT) began to applied to improve production efficiency and consistency. It is expected that the findings of this study can serve as a foundation for future development focused on material formulation and technological innovations for coconut shell-based briquette production that are more efficient, sustainable, and responsive to future energy needs
