EFEKTIVITAS LAYANAN INFORMASI MELALUI MEDIA SOSIAL INSTAGRAM UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI BELAJAR SISWA KELAS VII DI SMP NEGERI 1 SEDAYU TAHUN AJARAN 2024/2025
Excessive use of social media, especially Instagram, is one of the factors that make learning motivation low. Students often lose track of time when playing and opening social media, and many of them do not know the limits of using social media. Various problems often arise related to the lack of motivation in learning and excessive use of social media, which has a negative impact on students' academic performance and concentration. Learning motivation is the power that encourages students to learn and achieve the best achievements at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of information services through Instagram social media to increase the learning motivation of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sedayu in the 2024/2025 academic year. The method used in this research is quantitative, with the type of research used is pre-experimental with One Group Pretest-Postest design. The data collection method of this study used a questionnaire questionnaire with a sample recommended by the counseling teacher totaling 22 seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sedayu. The sampling technique used is Nonprobability Sampling technique with purposive sampling type. This research data analysis technique uses paired samples test analysis. The results of the t-test analysis show the value of t = 22.454 with a p value = 0.000 0.05 which shows that information services through Instagram social media are effective in increasing student learning motivation. Based on the results of this study, it shows that the provision of information services through Instagram social media has a positive and significant effect on increasing the learning motivation of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sedayu
Framing Analysis in the Papua Conflict in Benar News and The Guardian
The conflict in Papua has been ongoing since 1963 due to the Papuans' intention for independence. This conflict has been reported in many news media. Two news media outlets, Benar News and The Guardian, use framing when reporting issues related to the conflict in Papua. The framing in Benar News and The Guardian shapes the perceptions toward the issue of the Papua conflict. Accordingly, this study aims to explore the use of framing analysis in Benar News and The Guardian while reporting the problem related to the conflict in Papua and the depiction shown by Benar News and The Guardian when reporting the conflict in Papua. Using qualitative methods, this study applies Robert Entman's framing analysis approach, supported by text analysis in critical discourse analysis (CDA) by van Dijk, to analyze the data taken from two news outlets about the release of the pilot as one of the conflicts in Papua in Benar News and The Guardian. The findings reveal that Benar News and The Guardian frame the issue corresponding to the news. Benar News depicts the event as the Indonesian authorities' effort to release the pilot, who is captivated and taking a side toward Indonesia. Besides that, The Guardian depicts the issue as how the Papuan separatists face a struggle to gain independence that makes them kidnap the pilot as a bargaining chip, but heroically value human rights by releasing the pilot. Then, The Guardian takes a side toward the Papuans. This brings the idea that framing analysis supported by text analysis in CDA reveals how the news media present the issue to audiences. Therefore, the application of framing analysis supported by CDA's text analysis indicates that Benar News and The Guardian examine framing when reporting the issue of the Papua conflict according to their view
Peran Gereja Santo Yusup Bintaran Masa Revolusi 1946-1949
Penelitian ini menggali peran Gereja St. Yusup Bintaran pada masa penting Republik Indonesia, khususnya pada masa revolusi Indonesia, 1946-1949. Berdasarkan penelitian Sejarah menggunakan sumber-sumber yang tersedia, diketahui bahwa tokoh Soegijapranata menggerakkan Gereja Santo Yusup Bintaran dalam perjuangan kemerdekaan Indonesia dilatarbelakangi oleh semangat nasionalisme dalam dirinya. Soegijapranata mengemukakan dan memberi arahan umat Katolik untuk cinta tanah air berdasarkan ajaran Kristus. Kedatangan Belanda kembali sering kali membuat kerusuhan di daerah-daerah, yang memuncak pada agresi militer Belanda. Pada saat krisis keamanan di Yogyakarta, Gereja Santo Yusup Bintaran digunakan oleh masyarakat sekitar untuk mengungsi atas arahan dari Soegijapranata selaku Uskup Semarang
PRAGMATIC COMPETENCE CONSTRUCT IN SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION: CRITICAL THEORETICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL PERSPECTIVES IN LANGUAGE TEACHING
Drawing from literature on language and interlanguage pragmatics as well as education and business, this conceptual paper presents the current realities in second language learning and instruction and argues for the need to align collegiate second language acquisition curricula that emphasize linguistic and pragmatic competence. Such revision is consistent with the need to prepare college students to meet the critical demands of multi-context communication, which necessitates a deliberate teaching of pragmatic competence. More than the typical cognitive and technical skills, both local and global job markets need wide-ranging sets of communication-related competences as these affect meaning-making and quality of relationships, particularly in the workplace. Acquisition or enhancement of these skills paves the way for career, business, and life success. Said competencies also highlight the value of social or sociocultural skills as well as internal attributes that are critical in fostering healthy relationships and fruitful interaction. Both sets of skills speak of a person’s appropriateness in terms of use of pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic resources and norms in communication, in addition to the aptness of understanding of linguistic and non-linguistic codes. Ultimately, these skills all boil down to pragmatic competence, which is needed in a balanced second language teaching approach.
POLITENESS STRATEGIES IN NBC’S “LITTLE BIG SHOTS” PROGRAM
This study explores politeness strategies in intergenerational media interactions, a conversational exchange between the host Steve Harvey and three-year-old James, the youngest mayor of Dorset, Minnesota, on NBC’s Little Big Shots TV program. The study is based on Brown-Levinson’s politeness theory (1987). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research examined how politeness strategies are employed in a media environment involving a child participant and shows the delicate balance among entertainment goals, institutional discourse, and face preservation. The results uncover sophisticated applications of the four strategies of politeness, namely bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off-record strategies that make communication across age differences effective while upholding audience engagement and participant comfort. The findings offer insights into how subtle communicative tactics are used to play social roles, uphold institutional esteem, and foster authentic adult-child interactions in television programming.
Peran Efikasi Diri Akademis dan Kepuasan Hidup terhadap Kecenderungan Stres pada Mahasiswa
This quantitative study aims to look at intrapersonal factors, namely academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction, that can predict stress in final year college students. The research hypotheses are that academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction are negatively and significantly associated with stress among final year college students. Participants were 232 students who were in the sixth- and eighth-semester, with an age range of 20–25 years (Mage = 21.07, SD = 0.892). Academic self-efficacy was measured using the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (TASES), life satisfaction was measured using the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and stress was measured using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The data analysis method used is multiple regression analysis. The results of multiple regression analysis show that academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction jointly have a significant negative effect on stress tendencies among the participants, F(2, 229) = 60.403, p .001, R² = .345. Based on these results, it can be concluded that academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction have a relationship and are able to negatively and significantly predict stress in sixth- and eighth-semester college students. These findings highlight the importance of fostering academic self-efficacy and enhancing life satisfaction among students to mitigate stress levels. Future interventions could focus on developing strategies that promote these psychological factors to improve overall well-being in academic settings.
Pola Komunikasi Guru-Murid di Kelas dalam Perspektif Teori Empat Wacana Lacan
The essence of education is communication between educators and students. Teaching as a school education practice has two aspects, namely informative in the framework of forming skills and formative in the context of forming the personality of students. This current study aims to reveal the formative aspects of teacher-student communication patterns in the context of learning subjects in class based on Lacan's Theory of the Four Discourses. The research participants consisted of teachers and students of grades IV and V as class units who were carrying out Social Sciences lessons in three elementary schools in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through audio recordings of teacher-student communication in class. Data were transcribed and analyzed by four researchers separately, the results were discussed to find emerging themes derived from Lacan's Theory of the Four Discourses. The results showed that three types of Lacanian discourse emerged in teacher-student communication in the three schools studied, namely Discourse of the Master, Discourse of the University, and Discourse of the Analyst. This research will be followed up with research on the types of Lacanian discourse that are applied in writing textbooks for subjects in elementary schools including but not limited to Social Sciences
Refleksi kerusuhan Mei 1998 dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori: Pendekatan historis
Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan refleksi kerusuhan Mei 1998 dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori sehingga terlihat kronologi kerusuhan Mei 1998 yang disajikan penulis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan historis yang dikemukakan oleh Nyoman Kutha Ratna, yaitu karya sastra sebagai representasi tradisi pada zamannya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penyajian data penelitian secara deskriptif dengan kata-kata. Teknik baca dan catat digunakan untuk memperoleh data penelitian yang bersumber dari novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan: 1) kerusuhan Mei 1998 yang direfleksi oleh penulis dan sesuai dengan fakta; 2) gerakan mahasiswa 1998 yang terdiri dari aksi damai dan mimbar bebas di Universitas Trisakti serta demonstrasi di depan gedung MPR/DPR; 3) faktor terjadinya kerusuhan Mei 1998 yang terdiri dari krisis moneter dan tragedi Trisakti; dan 4) pengunduran diri Presiden Soeharto yang direfleksi oleh penulis dan sesuai dengan fakta
Gaya Hidup Masyarakat Jakarta dalam Iklan Media Massa Periode Pendudukan Jepang (1942-1945)
Penelitian ini membahas dinamika media massa dan gaya hidup masyarakat Jakarta yang terefleksi dalam iklan media massa pada periode pendudukan Jepang, tahun 1942-1945. Hasil penelitian menampilkan bahwa pergantian kekuasaan dan keterlibatan Jepang dalam perang memengaruhi dinamika media massa dan gaya hidup masyarakat Jakarta. Media massa dikurasi dan dimonopoli, dan hanya yang bersedia membantu Jepang dalam perang yang diizinkan hidup. Iklan media massa periode ini menampilkan: (1) diskontinuitas, yakni perubahan kiblat gaya hidup yang meliputi aktivitas, minat, dan opini dari Barat ke Timur; (2) kontinuitas, yakni pelanggengan warisan kolonial oleh pemerintah Jepang melalui eksklusivitas kelas dan pengasosiasian sifat masyarakat dengan etnis dalam bentuk yang subtil; dan (3) kontradiksi, yakni iklan menggambarkan kondisi masyarakat yang tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan. Hubungan antara Regulasi Diri dengan Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) pada Mahasiswa Pengguna Media Sosial
This research aimed to determine the correlation between self-regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in college students who used social media. The hypothesis of this research there was a negative correlation between self-regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in college students who used social media. The participants of this research were 402 college students aged 18 to 25 years who used at least one of the following four social media: YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram. This research was quantitative research using a non-probability sampling technique. The instruments used in this research were two scales arranged by the researcher, self-regulation modeled on Bandura’s self-regulation theory (in Feist et al., 2018), and the FoMO scale modeled on Przybylski et al’s FoMO theory (2013). According to the try-out of scales, the reliability coefficient on the self-regulation scale was 0,861 and on the FoMO scale was 0,815. The data analysis technique in this research used Spearman’s rho technique because the data were not normally distributed. The results of this research showed that there was a significant negative correlation between self-regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in college students who use social media (r = -0,247, p = 0,000)
