The reading literacy skills of students in Indonesia are generally still low. However, some schools are already able to have high student reading literacy. This research aims to reveal HOTS teaching materials as an effort to foster the reading literacy of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. The research location was carried out at one of the favorite private Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MIS) located in East Jakarta. The research was conducted in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was obtained through various sources consisting of interviews, observations, and documentation with research subjects, namely the school principal, curriculum coordinator teacher, and 47 class V students. All research data that has been collected is then analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's interactive model data analysis techniques. This model includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The implications of this research show that to foster reading literacy, teaching materials based on high-level thinking skills are needed

This study examined how the integration of GenAI affects students’ writing learning experiences, examining factors related to motivation, cognitive load, and satisfaction. Data collection involved an end-of-semester survey assessing these three dimensions in the context of AI-integrated writing pedagogy. The results indicate that EFL students generally hold positive perceptions of GenAI’s value and utility for writing development, expressing interest in learning more about AI-assisted writing tools and recognizing their practical importance for academic writing tasks. Students’ motivation was high regarding the relevance and engaging nature of GenAI in writing contexts. The analysis of cognitive load showed moderate levels of mental effort when integrating GenAI into writing processes. The satisfaction data underscore the writing course’s success in fostering enthusiasm, engagement, and practical application of AI writing knowledge, with participants rating the AI-integrated writing course favorably. However, areas such as knowledge retention of AI writing strategies and clarity of understanding AI’s role in writing suggest opportunities for improvement. These findings highlight the potential of GenAI integration in EFL writing instruction, while also identifying specific areas for enhancing writing-focused learner outcomes

Idioms are often seen as signs of advanced language proficiency, yet their role in writing assessment is given little consideration. Most research has focused on how idioms are processed cognitively, leaving open questions about how they affect teacher judgments, particularly in second language writing. This study explores how idioms affect teacher ratings of lexical diversity and writing quality, while also highlighting the challenges teachers face in evaluating them. Using a mixed-methods design, twenty Hebrew teachers assessed fifteen essays written by native Arabic speakers, along with revised versions of each essay that included a frequent idiom (30 essays total). The essays spanned CEFR levels A2 to B2 and were randomly ordered. Teachers, whether native speakers of Arabic or Hebrew, rated both lexical diversity and writing quality of each essay on a 10-point scale. Six teachers also participated in semi-structured interviews, which were subjected to thematic analysis. The findings indicate that essays with idioms were rated significantly higher in both writing quality and lexical diversity, regardless of the rater’s first language. The interviews highlighted several recurring challenges in assessing idioms, including contextual appropriateness, idiom transparency, frequency of use, grammatical accuracy, and variation between standard and colloquial forms

Pratista Retreat House has implemented a Retreat House Booking Information System that allows people to make room reservations and enables management to handle rooms, facilities, and orders. However, Pratista does not yet have a financial information system, resulting in several financial management challenges. Operational expenses are still recorded manually, making it difficult for the management to track spending transactions. Moreover, accounting principles have not been applied in its financial management, which limits the ability to generate up-to-date financial reports needed to support optimal financial decision-making. In this activity, a Financial Information System (FIS) was developed to address these challenges. It consists of two main modules. The Expenditure Module includes features for recording expenses across various categories and generating detailed and summary expenditure reports based on the most recent data. The Accounting Module provides features for defining a Chart of Accounts (CoA), recording journal entries, and generating Statements of Financial Position, Activities, and Cash Flows. The system was evaluated through two rounds of User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and users have confirmed that their requirements have been met. The financial information system has since been installed on the Parahyangan Catholic University server and is now actively used by the Retreat House management

Faith and Body: Welcoming the Theological Creed’s Corpus to Disability Amicable

    No full text
Our bodies tell God’s story. The Church regards the human body as sacred, intended for ultimate union with God, and anticipates it to be treated as a temple. The narrative suggests that we ought to regard our bodies with reverence and integrity, while anticipating their eventual resurrection. This appears to be a triumphalist perspective regarding the church's stance on the body. This theological conception has significantly influenced Church members in their pursuit of complete holiness throughout their lives, yet it has also resulted in serious repercussions, specifically subtle dualism and the issue of bodily imperfection. The Church's emphasis on the unity of body and soul, alongside the concept of the soul's immortality, generates a tension regarding the precedence of the soul's salvation over the body's welfare. This results in a disjunction between the ideal church and the actual church, leading to diminished attention towards non-triumphalistic groups, specifically individuals with disabilities. The corporeal form that narrates God's story is also the anthropological entity. The intersection of theology and anthropology in spirituality necessitates a discussion on both the sacramental essence of the body and the theological design for the body, culminating in the same conclusion: the body as a symbol of salvation rather than condemnation. This paper presents novel theological concepts that advocate for the marginalized, specifically individuals with disabilities. This paper aims to demonstrate that God's plan of salvation for His people, as articulated in the Nicene Creed and informed by John Paul II's theology of the body, is applicable both communally and personally, particularly concerning individuals with disabilities. In the end, we can hope a kind of inclusive theology to all people especially those with disability

TEACHERS’ PEDAGOGICAL RESISTANCE OF EMI THROUGH CLASSROOM TRANSLANGUAGING IN NEPALESE SCIENCE CLASSROOMS

    No full text
English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) is an approach used to teach content subjects in English, particularly in regions where English is not the primary language of most of the population. The increasing adoption of EMI in Nepalese public schools has sparked debate among educators, policymakers, and linguists. While local bodies promote EMI, teachers often utilize Nepali and English, allowing students to use their home languages. However, the science teachers’ use of multilingual practices and resistance to exclusive English instruction remain underexplored. This study aimed to analyze how secondary-level EMI science teachers incorporate students' home languages in the classroom. Using phenomenology as a research design, we collected data from two science teachers teaching at English medium public schools in Sunsari through in-depth interviews and analyzed the data thematically. The study found that secondary-level EMI science teachers frequently use Nepali and English and incorporate students' home languages purposefully, a practice known as translanguaging. Additionally, the study found that teachers use translanguaging as a pedagogical tool and a form of resistance in EMI science classrooms to enhance engagement, comprehension, and inclusivity while challenging monolingual policies. It suggests that multilingual strategies like translanguaging can foster change and reform policies through teacher agency at the micro level
