LEARNERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON THE APPLICATION OF ROLE-PLAYING ACTIVITIES IN LEGAL ENGLISH CLASSES
Role-play, an integrated language teaching method, is highly recommended in English-for-specific-purposes classes for its valuable benefits. This paper focuses on investigating learners’ perspectives on role-play activity utilization in legal English lessons at Hanoi Law University. To achieve the aim, a 15-week study was carried out with the participation of sixty-seven second-year law students who were instructed with role-playing activities in legal English lessons. Data were collected through survey questionnaires and in-depth semi-structured interviews, which addressed the benefits of role-play in terms of enhancing learners’ legal English skills and legal English terms, as well as fostering their learning motivation. Accordingly, instructors might consider such findings to maximize the efficacy of role-playing activities in teaching legal English.
A DECADE (2014–2024) OF MTB-MLE IN THE PHILIPPINES: WHERE IT WORKED, WHERE IT STRUGGLED, AND WHAT COMES NEXT
Capturing a full decade of language program implementation offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the evolution, strengths, and limitations of one of the country’s most transformative language-in-education reforms. With the introduction of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) under the Philippine K–12 Curriculum, interest has grown in assessing its accomplishments and ongoing challenges. Therefore, this study aims to review key developments in MTB-MLE implementation from 2014 to 2024. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using peer-reviewed articles and Department of Education documents from academic databases and government archives. Following PRISMA guidelines, 14 documents were selected and analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that strong policy backing, language mapping, and teacher training improved early literacy and student engagement through first language (L1) instruction. However, challenges include limited teacher proficiency, lack of localized materials, policy–practice mismatches, and weak support for second language development. Besides, standardization pressures also clashed with the multilingual realities of classrooms. In conclusion, while MTB-MLE remains a promising reform, it has yet to fulfill its potential due to systemic constraints. Future efforts should adopt more flexible and linguistically responsive strategies, and if unrealized in basic education, MTB-MLE may find greater traction within higher education
BOOK REVIEW: THE CAMBRIDGE HANDBOOK OF BIOLINGUISTICS
This review discusses the implementation of biolinguistics in children’s language acquisition. The focus lies on the importance of biolinguistics in studying children’s language acquisition. Children’s language is considered important because, within the scientific concept of biolinguistics, will have an influence on the development of children’s language until the child is an adult. This review is based on The Cambridge Handbook of Biolinguistics, which consists of three parts. The first section discusses the history of biolinguistics; the second chapter discusses the mind, brain and behavior in relation to language; and the third section discusses the evolution of language. This book aims to open our horizons about biolinguistics as a science that harmonizes language and knowledge, language development in children and the evolution of language in various species. In addition, the most profound meaning of this book lies in its emphasis on the function the human brain, where each part has its own specific role. Through this book we are asked to be grateful for God's gift to humans for giving the brain with a very extraordinary function. In line with its purpose, this book not only examines the integration between language and the human brain, but also inspires readers to appreciate the complexity of human cognition
UNEARTHING ACCOUNTABILITY AND ALLIGNMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY REPORT TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Sustainability reports provide a corporate performance’s comprehensive view from economic, social, and environmental perspectives to help stakeholders identify progress and areas for improvement as well as increasing public awareness. However, given the rising issue of “greenwashing,” false environmental claims often shown in company reports, it is important to examine the authenticity of a sustainable report, especially in its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to see whether the report actually reflects ecological responsibility or simply to improve stakeholder trust and company image. This study aims to examine the sustainability report of a fishery industry in Indonesia. Using a mix-method, i.e., combination of AI tools for initial summary of the report and qualitative Ecological Discourse Analysis (EDA), especially the framing and erasure theories of Stibbe (2015), the research seeks to identify the report’s alignments with indicators concerning responsible consumption (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and ocean ecosystems (SDG 14). The finding shows that there are inconsistencies between the company’s ecological principles and its sustainability claims as revealed from its framing and erasure narrativization. The report’s focus on creating a corporate self-image as a consumer and market-driven company results in a lack of visible ecological accountability
AN EXISTENTIALIST FEMINISM ANALYSIS IN KRISTIN HANNAH’S NOVEL THE WOMEN (2024)
This study aims to analyze the struggles of women veterans in Kristin Hannah's novel The Women (2024) through the lens of Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism. It focuses on the portrayal of women veterans, particularly Frankie (Frances McGrath) while analyzing the construction of gender roles and the dynamics between men and women within the society. Drawing from De Beauvoir’s seminal work The Second Sex, which critiques the historical marginalization of women as the “Other” in patriarchal societies. It analyzes how the novel critiques patriarchal structures while celebrating women's resilience and agency. A descriptive qualitative method emphasizing narrative analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of Frankie's emotional journey and the broader societal issues faced by women veterans. Frankie’s experiences during and after the Vietnam War highlight the marginalization and lack of recognition faced by women veterans. Her journey illustrates core existentialist feminist principles, including the rejection of patriarchal norms and the assertion of self-definition. The study underscores the novel's depiction of women’s solidarity and mutual support as tools for resisting oppression and reclaiming identity. By emphasizing the relevance of De Beauvoir’s philosophy, this research contributes to feminist literary studies, encouraging a reevaluation of patriarchal systems and greater recognition of women’s contributions
NECESSITY OF PROPER EVALUATION IN EAP (ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES) COURSES
The paper shows the necessity of proper evaluation in EAP courses. It focuses on the roles of different stakeholders (learners, instructors, administrators) in evaluating EAP courses and settings, drawing on previously published articles. Further, it focuses on the impacts of evaluation on different stakeholders. This study emphasizes the positive impacts of proper evaluation and the negative impacts of improper evaluation, simultaneously considering the overall academic settings and organizational goals; to identify different variables; a rigorous analysis of the opinions of the participants is made. Besides, different spectacles are added in this paper by analyzing different literature and documents regarding EAP evaluation. Mainly, the focus of the paper is to show how the evaluation of EAP courses acts as a vital factor in academic contexts. As evaluation is one of the pillars of ESP, and proper evaluation can directly show the performances of the learners and instructors and can also show the viability of running a course or program in an academy, all the stakeholders, including administrators, need to remain careful to evaluate the other stakeholders properly and in a well-maintained academic manner. For this research, the qualitative descriptive method was employed. The analysis shows the impact of evaluation on different stakeholders of EAP courses

LEARNING PROCESS IN ANALYTIC GEOMETRY COURSE USING IGNATIAN PEDAGOGICAL PARADIGM
This study examines the implementation of the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) in Analytic Geometry instruction and assesses student outcomes following its application. Given the importance of holistic education in mathematics instruction, this study explores how IPP can enhance both cognitive and affective student development. A qualitative approach was employed, with the data collected through evaluation sheets measuring competence, compassion, conscience, and commitment among 14 undergraduate students at Universitas Sanata Dharma. The IPP was implemented through its five stages: context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation. The findings suggest that IPP fosters deeper conceptual engagement, ethical development, and teamwork through attitudes that promote holistic learning. However, challenges were encountered in assessing the depth of student reflections, particularly in evaluating students’ ability to critically analyze their learning experiences and in measuring the consistency of individual commitment within group activities. This study contributes to educational research and practice by providing a comprehensive overview of the application of IPP in Analytic Geometry learning and demonstrating its potential to foster meaningful, holistic education while identifying areas for improvement in assessment practices
