Examining Japan's Christian University plan (1945-1947) : a study of autonomy and independence in relation to Japanese/American Protestants
Get PDF本発表では、全く違った戦時下を経験した日米両プロテスタントが第二次大戦後の日本伝道再開にあたり、相互に自身の利害をネゴシエートしながら、どのように各自の目的を遂行したのか、その過程で日本側は「自主性」を防衛できたのかどうかを論じる。事例として、日米両プロテスタント代表が協力して取り組んだキリスト教大学構想を巡る両者の折衝について、日本側の「自主性」を米側がどのように保障する努力をしたのかを湯本会議 (1947年) 開催までの時期を中心に検討する。This article investigates the complex dynamics between Japanese and American Protestants, as they navigated their respective circumstances during and after World War II and sought to reinitiate missionary work in post war Japan. We examine how each organization pursued its objectives, identifying whether the Japanese Protestants were able to defend their autonomy and independence during this period. Through a case study, this article focuses on the collaborative Christian University Plan negotiated between Japanese and American Protestants, highlighting the American Protestants' efforts to ensure Japanese Protestants' "autonomy and independence," particularly leading to the Yumoto Conference in 1947.論説(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Exploring success factors in long-term extensive reading : a case study of a Japanese university student
Get PDF長期的な多読を可能にする要因は何であろうか。この問いを探るため、大学在学中の4年間に継続して英語多読を行い、全部で152冊(総語数842,019語)のグレイディッド・リーダーを読破したある日本人大学生について報告する。この学生の多読の大部分は1年次と4年次に行われ、途中いくつかの浮き沈みがあったが、4年次に一つのシリーズを集中的に読むことで、劇的に読書量を伸ばした。彼女が長期的多読に成功した要因として、(a)多読を生活の一部にしたこと、(b)お気に入りのシリーズを見つけ、それに絞った「狭い読書」(Krashen, 2004)をしたこと、が考えられる。What contributes to success in long-term extensive reading? To explore this question, this paper reports on a Japanese university student who read extensively in English for four years, with a total of 152 books and 842,019 words read. The majority of her reading was done in the first and fourth academic years with numerous ups and downs along the way, but she made a dramatic comeback in the fourth year by focusing on a single series. I suggest that she succeeded because (a) she made extensive reading part of her life and (b) she found her favorite series and engaged in "narrow reading" (Krashen, 2004).グローバル地域文化学部開設10周年記念号論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
