Coming Back for More Quality Learning Experience
This preliminary study investigates students’ expected learning experiences that determine their return to the same university for further studies. A cross-sectional analysis was done on 190 undergraduate students in a private institution of higher learning. Their opinions were sought regarding the present quality of services offered by the university. Their concern was for quality teaching, lecturers and facilities, and especially course fees, technology, and support systems. The study highlights the need to look again at some of the students’ major complaints, which could guarantee their return to the university’s doorstep
Participatory Design for Improving Pedestrian and Traffic Sign System at Anuban Ranong School
The objective of this study is to design and improve the pedestrian environment and traffic signs with the participatory design at Ranong Kindergarten School. The result of this study was brought to identify the promotion of pedestrian safety zone. In the participatory process, the four groups were started up for collaboration including teacher and student group, local community group, academics group, and private organization group. The important finding was the “Brave Walk Unit,” the volunteer students who are the driven mechanism to promote other students who live near the school to walk or ride the bicycle to school on their own.
Practice and Challenges towards Healthy Cafeteria in Selangor, Malaysia
Dietary intake is directly affected by the availability of food choices at the cafeteria. Understanding the issues among cafeteria operators in providing healthy eating environment is vital. Thus, a qualitative study was conducted to identify the practice and barriers among cafeteria operators in Selangor. Eleven food handlers were recruited by a convenience sampling. This study revealed respondents have similar understanding of healthy cafeteria and challenges faced by them were making sure every staff has the correct understanding of healthy foods and financial constraint. Respondents suggested to provide training on food handling and health promotion campaign
Impacts of Adaptive Reuse of Heritage Buildings Converted to Small Hotels in Bangkok
Adaptive reuse (AR) is the process of reusing building to new purposes. In Bangkok, the popularity of AR turned to small hotels (AR-hotel) is increasing. There are more criteria for substantial renovation, business investment and valuing of heritage buildings but no concern to the community surrounding. This study was aimed to investigate community impacts occurred from AR-hotel projects. The key variables focused on four main issues - physical, economic, value and social issues. The results indicated that there were better physical improvements, livable area, more public social interaction whereas there was a little disturbance, and not much socialization of privacy.
The Impact of Marine Tourism Towards the Local Community at Pulau Pangkor, Perak
Marine tourism is one of the main factors contributing to the growth of the tourism sector in Malaysia. Malaysia is among the countries that have assets of most beautiful islands with diverse marine life. It is attracting visitors to enjoy the beauty of the sea nature. The vibrant activity was an opportunity for local community to engage in the tourism sector. Assessment of Roof Top BIPV Application of Sample Houses in Shah Alam
BIPV is an application where solar Photovoltaic modules are integrated into the building structures to produce electrical energy. It is silent, clean in operation, highly reliable and low maintenance. The purpose of the research is to assess BIPV application on the roof top of houses in Shah Alam area. Few samples were selected and important parameters were measured, and analysed to determine which roof form, orientations and PV types that influence the power generations. The average daily power generations range from 11.18kWh/kWp to 29.18kWh/kWp depending on the number of modules, PV type, roof inclination and location
Hotel Brand and Food Quality in Malaysia
This study is to investigate the relationship between hotel brand and food quality using the Brand Identity Prism (BIP) model in the context of food service industry that has never been directly tested before. The attributes (physical, relationship and reflection) of BIP in food service industry which focusing on the food quality served at hotel restaurants are validated. A quantitative approach using questionnaire survey was conducted with a total of 129 hotel restaurants guests from four of five star rated hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The result indicated that there was a significant relationship between hotel brand identity and food quality
Illuminated Furniture as the Atmospheric Factor of Café Interior Design
Behavioral research of lighting is so far limited to that which is set above eye-level. This research project studies the atmospheric effects of illuminated furniture on mood. Using quasi-experimental method, two sets of illuminated furniture were laid out in a café and three different modes of atmospheric qualities resulted were investigated. Seventy student volunteers were asked to join this experiment and report their feelings toward each of those conditions. We used ANOVA statistic to analyze the data. The result shows that the atmospheric quality resulted from a constant setting of illuminated furniture were the most favorable in influencing customer's mood.

Youth Outdoor Feature Requirements in Urban Public Low-cost Housing
Youth is part of the community consent contributors. They are the energetic potency in fulfilling the social program and physical planning development. They are described as an active group in the community. The previous studies showed that youth shapes the pattern of lifestyle in neighbourhood units and even the nation itself. This paper will focus on the low-cost housing areas in which is high density and with scarce spaces as the existing facilities did not appear to attract youth's intention and even for their uses. As a result, reviewing the youth service requirements can enhance youth's quality of life
