Preschool Design and School Readiness
Preschool physical environments significantly affect children behavior and development. Efforts by the Malaysian Government to improve the quality of preschool education shows a lack of emphasis on the physical learning environment - despite overall improvements, school readiness remains moderate. In Malaysia, the impact of preschool physical learning environments on children's school readiness is still unclear; thus, this paper aims to investigate, highlight and conclude a clear theoretical relationship between these two aspects through literature review. Findings are hoped to lay the groundworks for future research into this matter to improve preschool education in Malaysia
Restorative Experience Perceived by the Users
The recreational forests are facing pressure by surrounding developments such as highway and housing. Urban development has implications for the benefits offered by recreational forests, endangered biodiversity, water quality and wildlife to result a place that is no longer enjoyable to visit. It is important to conserve the recreational forests that can contribute to the urbanites quality of life. Based on the results from the site observations, self-administered questionnaires and in-depth interviews at two recreational forests (The Ampang and Kanching Recreational Forests), this paper describes recreational forest users’ experience and what makes they perceived restored while being in the forest.
Exploring the Importance of Outdoor Environment in Developing Self-Experience of a Child
A child needs best for the formation of themselves. A more continuous experience needs for the stabilisation of the characteristics of children in the process of building confidence and maturity in life. This research focuses on the investigation of the favourite place for children age 6 years old. This will strengthen the engagement of children experience with its environment. The outdoor environment contains a variety of natural science that can be learned directly by children. The aim of the study is to seek for a positive impact of the outdoor environment in the process of formation of the child and the objectives of the study are to understand the means of the outdoor environment with children, to develop the criteria of outdoor space for children and its implications for children. It is importance to know apparently the appropriateness of children's outdoor environment and where it should be created for improving the development of self-experience of a child
The Execution of Key Performance Indicators in the Operational Phase of PFI Projects in Malaysia
In Private Finance Initiative (PFI), payment for services is based on pre-determined standards and performance. Thus, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been used to measure this performance. However, lack of an effective KPIs was identified as a core criticism towards the execution of PFI projects. Therefore, the objectives of the research are to determine the importance and challenges of KPIs in measuring this performance. A qualitative approach via semi-structured interview was adopted. The findings discovered that the current KPIs do not meet the criteria and this can lead to the difficulties in measuring the performance of PFI projects. The outcome of this research can serve as a theoretical base for the development of an effective KPIs for PFI projects implementation in Malaysia
The Process of Shaping Place in Residential Area Towards Livable Neighbourhood
The process of shaping place in the residential area occurs on sustainability. Although in the area of planned settlement, changes always take place in the process of shaping place. This study was conducted to observe the changes and how the process can increasing Livable Neighborhood. The variables of change are management strategies, public areas, and activity generators, planning strategies, and design strategies. The results found that it takes cooperation between housing stakeholders to create a livable neighborhood
Housing Qualities Characteristics towards Relationship on House Prices
The research was conducted in order to obtain measurement for characteristics quality of houses in Malaysia. The aim of this research was to produce the results needed for the relationship between house qualities and house prices. The methodology used in this research was primarily by AHP and Regression Analysis conducted between the characteristics and house prices. Data collection gathered through a sampling of landed terrace houses in the Klang district was incorporated for this. The results from the research showed several significant findings that can improve quality of life for targeted households
Challenges in the Management of IBS Construction Projects
IBS application had claimed to offer a faster construction, high quality, cost saving, cleaner and safer construction site. However, several challenges in management during the construction phase had been identified by researchers. This paper aims to analyze the challenges and issues arise in managing IBS construction projects. The challenges and issues identified can be categorized into pre-construction, construction and post-construction phases. Categorizing the challenges and issues will help to increase the contractor's understanding and help them to be prepared in handling the situation that they may encounter during the project phases.
Willingness to Pay for Conservation in Gunung Gading National Park
An open-ended contingent valuation survey was conducted involving local and international visitors to estimate the environmental economics of Gunung Gading National Park. This was to elicit the willingness to pay for its conservation. Using a random survey, the average willingness to pay was RM16.14 for international visitors per visit and RM7.38 per local visitor per visit for conservation. The willingness to pay was strongly influenced by gender, education and income. This study demonstrated that contingent valuation method can be a useful tool to guide decision makers regarding policy purposes and natural resources management of protected area in developing countries
The Development of the Malay Garden Concept
This study discusses the development of the Malay garden concept using the old Malay manuscripts and site observation to the Malay villages along Peninsular Malaysia. The inherited landscape design concept can offer as a guideline to conserve the integrity and the authenticity of the traditional Malay garden design and the strength of these characters will extensively use in developing the concept of landscape design in Malaysia due to the increasing awareness of design and the quality of life.
Communication as a Way in the Development of Fishing Village in Belawan Medan Indonesia
Fisherman's village is a settlement that is always attached to the coastal city of Belawan in Medan. The study to understand the needs of the community becomes a potential for successful development. The researcher identifies residents' involvement in finding the most appropriate communication as a development strategy. The author uses quantitative and qualitative methods in completing this research. In analyzing, the researcher correlates data interpretation, perception, participation and communication strategy with literature review. The result of this research is a communication model that will encourage the development of Belawan fishing village into a community-based coastal settlement and local wisdom
