Environmental Attitudes on Setiu Wetlands, Malaysia
Get PDFThis study addresses the attitudes of the urban and rural dwellers towards Setiu Wetlands conservation. The New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale is adopted to measure the degree of environmental concern. A series of factor analysis and regression is applied to analyze the urban-rural attitudes and to suggest three factors structure of attitudes to wetland conservation. The urban-rural residential variable is able to predict in part the overall NEP scores and element of anti-anthropocentrism which suggesting the urban communities are more positive towards wetland conservation. Hence, further outreach efforts in rural population are worthwhile to raise conservation awareness
Quality of Life: Psychosocial environment factors in the event of disasters to private construction firms
Get PDFIn the last decade, both natural and man-made disaster events in Malaysia bring hindrance to construction firms’ operations. Disaster events causing stress, anxiety and depression among people which leads to lose of working days. This research reports on psychosocial environment factors to private construction firms in the event of disaster. A semi-structured interviews were conducted among six (6) construction firms and the data were analysed using content analysis. The findings revealed that three (3) psychosocial environment factors (i.e., job characteristics; role in organisations; and social aspects) affected by man-made disasters; while job prospect and organisational factors distressed by natural disasters.
Interactive Programme on Prevention of Smoking: Pilot study

Hence, health education programme at an early stage has been conducted with primary school children to prevent them from engaging in negative behaviours such as smoking. Currently, the health education programme was organized in poster presentation form. However, in these studies, it was transformed into an interactive school health programme with an active participation from the school children. It is designed to increase the children's learning retention through an active interaction programme
The Natives Emigrating in the Cultural Community of Thailand from the Tourism Adaptation
Get PDFCultural heritages communities in Thailand were mostly adapted into a tourist attraction. The objective of this study was to investigate the occurrences of the natives in the central region of Thailand emigrating from their aboriginal communities from this cause. Since This adaptation successfully generates more income to the community, it also attracts outsiders to come in and exploit the better economic situation but pushes the natives away. Thus, the uniqueness and attractiveness of the local way of life and culture starts to disappear and will lose them almost entirely, such as the occurrences at Amphawa, Samchuk and Chiang Khan community
Exploring the Urban Interstitial Spaces and its Potential Usage at DUKE Highway
Get PDFThe development of the urban highway in and around the city has created vast quantities of left over spaces that seldom integrated into formal planning and design. Vague on purpose, the interstitial spaces formed from these concrete “rivers” are referred as lost spaces. This paper aims to explore the urban interstices and investigate its possible usage. Site observation and photographic recordings of a case study were employed. The site characteristics were recorded in which findings suggested that the interstitial spaces have the potential to be planned and designed to cater adjacent community needs and usage
Location Housing Affordability : A Quality of Life indicator in Malaysia
Get PDFTo have quality of life is the ability to own a house. Housing affordability affects the quality of life concerning household well-being and economic security. The research sets to evaluate the location housing affordability for the low-income group base on housing and transportation expenditures in urban areas. 148 respondents have answered questionnaire and by using an integrated Location Housing Affordability, it had indicated that location does influence housing affordability. The findings showed the urban area for the low-income group is seriously unaffordable. "Location" should be part of affordable housing because it affects housing affordability thus concerning the quality of life
Safety and Health Cost Allocation for Urban Rail Infrastructure Project: Identifying issues and importance

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven (7) construction stakeholders who are involved in urban rail infrastructure project. The transcription and interpretation from the interview findings were carried out using Atlas.ti© qualitative software. The respondent views are needed to obtain safety items and related issues in developing this framework mainly for estimating the safety cost allocation

This study attempts to evaluate visual landscape of Taiping District in relations to the larger landscape scale in Peninsular Malaysia. A Landscape Character Assessment was conducted on the visual landscape taken for several points in Taiping, Perak and surrounding area to see changes in the landscape. The aim of this study is to provide a visual structure for landscape classification of the Taiping District area that will contribute to the decision making in development and management in Malaysia. The Significance of Staff Assistance in Accessibility of Public Buildings
Get PDFThis study intends to discuss the issue of public attitude towards PWD and the significance of staff assistance in public buildings. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with visually-impaired person, hearing-impaired person, wheelchair user and crutches user to find out their concerns on the accessibility of public buildings they assessed prior to the interview session. Findings show that other than the physical facilities, another important aspect of accessibility in a public building is staff assistance or hospitality towards visitors with disability. Public buildings should be able to cater the needs of all visitors, through physical and hospitality aspects of the building
Quality of Life at Resettlement Project in Pahang, Malaysia
Get PDFThis paper studies the quality of life of Orang Asli (aborigines) who were resettled at Program Bersepadu Daerah Terpencil (PROSDET), Pantos in Kuala Medang, Pahang, Malaysia. The research aims to examine the living conditions of the affected Orang Asli at the resettlement project and to determine possible ways for improving their livelihood and quality of life. The findings from 183 household surveys and physical observations and interviews have disclosed dissatisfactions among Orang Asli for reasons which related to the changes in their traditional livelihood, lifestyle and culture. The paper provides recommendations for ensuring better quality of life in the future resettlement programs for Orang Asli
