    Get PDF
Quality of life (QOL) is an abstract concept. Like other subjective concepts, it is hard to develop objective measures to understand QOL in specific urban settings. Since there has been a voluminous literature on QOL, researchers focused on parameters to measure QOL. This study aims to review the literature on QOL to extract the indicators of QOL in urban settings. It would put forward a model to collect data to measure and compare QOL in neighbourhood units and regional areas. The model could be applied in Turkish cities. The potential and limitations of this model will be discussed

Measuring Improvement in Quality of Life in Community-Based Development Projects in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The lingering problem of poverty prompted many countries to adopt community-based strategies for improving Quality of Life (QoL) of poor communities. Numerous studies have focused on identifying but ignored to establish the contribution of the factors that influence improvement in QoL by community-based projects. This paper measures, using Structural Equation Modelling, the contribution of the factors that influence QoL in a Community-based Poverty Reduction Project (CPRP) in Nigeria. The model revealed that the measured factors contributed only 36% of the reduction in poverty, which implies that there are other “hidden” factors responsible for the improvement in the quality of life.

The research was conducted to find the characteristics quality of houses in Malaysia. The aim of this research was to produce the ranking characteristics of house qualities and determining its weightages. The methodology used in this research was primarily by using the Delphi Method to ascertain characteristics quality and also Analytical Hierarchy Process to determine the ranking of the characteristics quality. Data collection gathered through a structured questionnaire that incorporates the element of Saaty’s Scale using variables outlined from review and interview. A theoretical framework of the research was established from this that will lead to future research model

    Get PDF
Urban farming is seen as a sustainable practice with the social, economic and urban environment benefits. Despite the efforts by the government, there is lack of public participation in urban farming activities and challenges in sustaining urban farming participants' interest. The study is aimed at measuring urban farming participation motivations using the Expectancy Theory of Motivation which is made up of three aspects; namely expectancy, instrumentality and valence. This paper describes the findings regarding the expectancy aspect of motivation (measured by using Expectancy theory) in urban farming activity in Malaysia

Well-designed of an urban park is one of the best ways to achieve the city sustainable development and contributes to the quality of life in many ways. Central to this argument is the claim that the variables need to be considered and thus, this research was conducted to assess the quality of urban park by empirically evaluating through behavioral competencies and psychological well-being from the model of Lawton’s Quality of Life. A quantitative research method was employed for the research with 134 respondents in Taman Lembah Bukit SUK, Shah Alam. Results confirm that the urban park provides the potential for psychological well-being and behavioral competencies equally among male and female in improving their quality of life

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper was to test the applicability of multiple regression analysis and rank transformation regression in assessing the values of private heritage property. The original dataset consists of 893 commercial properties transacted from 2004 to 2014 in Kelantan Malaysia. After filtration process, only 25 units of shophouse heritage property were available and valid to be used. The models have been constructed and their statistical performances have been compared. The results indicate that adopting statistical methods of valuation per se to overcome the issue of unavailability of market evidence could not solve the consequences of the limited data problem.

Previous studies show that people residing at the highlands had the potential in physical endurance. The main objective of this study was to obtain the physiological and haematological profile of the highlanders residing at Mount Kinabalu. 27 male and four female porters and guides with age ranged from 17 to 51 years old working at the Sabah National Park voluntarily participated in the study. Anthropometric measurement, physiological attributes and hematological components were measured. Even though the participants had high haemoglobin levels, their VO2max were below the average level. Follow-up studies should consider assessment of other physiological factors at higher altitudes
