The Malay Traditional Food Preparation
Global modernization, food technology and time constraint becomes the reasons why youngest generation is choosing ready-to-eat food rather than preparing traditional foods. Even the traditional kuih-muih until the main dishes, the preparations are relying on the elder. The purpose of this study is to determine the reasons why the young generation had limited skills and knowledge in the Malay traditional food preparation. The ethnography technique has been used to document all the activities of food preparation. Consequently, upgrading young generation skills and knowledge helps to preserve Malay traditional foods that become one of the most valuable knowledge
Man’s and Woman’s Motivation to Exercise
Females exhibit lower levels of physical exercise performance than males. It seems that gender factor motivates people differently, in performing regular exercise. Our objective was to determine the relationship between 21 motivating reasons for performing physical exercise and genders. We found that males showed significantly higher means score in two motivating reasons; to have a positive effect on the sex life (4.18±1.01, p<0.001) and to have more energy to go about the daily chores (4.62± .63, p= 0.027). No significant gender difference in the mean score for the other 19 motivating reasons. Conclusion: Both sexes were almost equally motivated in performing physical exercise
Job Embeddedness and Organizational Climate
Issues regarding persons with disability (PWD) at workplace have become an endless argument. PWD faced difficulties at their workplaces after struggling to get the job. They faced with problems that could not make them work longer. This paper examines the relationship between organizational climate and their job embeddedness. It reveals that disabled employees must be supported by an appropriate organizational climate to ensure their embeddedness with the company. The findings can be used in the creation of a better organizational climate specially prepared for the disabled employees as part of the company’s responsibilities as the PWD have their rights in receiving the same treatment as received by other normal employees
An Activity Program for Older People
Older people in an institution live in a sedentary lifestyle. They lose their autonomy, seldom engage in activities and did not have a meaningful social relationship. These issues lead to decreased in quality of life (QoL). The aim of this randomised trial is to determine the effectiveness of a lifestyle redesign programme, i.e. the Lively Later Life Programme (3LP) on QoL. Eighty-two older people who fit the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to the 3LP group and the control group. At the end of six months, there is a significant change in physical, psychological and social domains of QoL
Households Inclination in Waste Separation Program
This paper examines the effect of socio-economic factors on recycling practices among households in Malaysia. Questionnaires were administered to 600 households in the newly emerging conurbation of Iskandar Malaysia Region. The results indicate that socio-economic variables have a significant effect on recycling activities. The results suggest that older people are more inclined to separate the households waste. The younger generation cited lack of time as the main reason for not recycling. The paper recommends several options to suit different households need to improve waste separation program. These include providing adequate infrastructures and raising environmental knowledge and values
Ideographic Experiences in Raising Dyslexic
The aim of the study is to illuminate the challenges that mothers experience in raising children with dyslexia. A semi-structured interview was conducted with ten mothers of children with dyslexia at the Dyslexia Association Malaysia (DAM) centre. Data were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. Two main themes emerged from the interview transcripts, i.e. "difficult yet enduring" and "self-perseverance". The current study revealed challenges of mothers with dyslexic children, which could be addressed by health professionals. In addition, this study provides insights and a deeper understanding for health professionals to support mothers and families who have children with dyslexia
IBS Optimisation at Wet Areas to Solve Leaking
Hybrid construction method with In-situ reinforced concrete (IRC) for wet areas in predominantly pre-cast concrete (PC) buildings to overcome leakage problem is a setback for full IBS adoption. Various options explored to reduce IRC at toilet only to discover the answer is possible within the existing parameters of IBS. The proposal adopts composite construction comprised of metal permanent formwork and ISC casting for toilet floor while PC components remained as buildings structural framing system. This proposal combined different elements of IBS systems offers all the advantages associated with IBS; minimize wastages, better quality, shorter construction period and minimized unskilled workers
Knowledge on the Malaysian Food Heritage
Traditional food was closely associate with food heritage has become a significant role in the life of society. A study examines how far Malaysian knows about their food heritage identity. A total of 500 respondents located in Klang Valley participate in this study. Findings showed that food heritage been defined as traditional food. There is a significant relationship between genders with the definition of food heritage; the association of food heritage questions. The overall finding revealed that respondent understand the definition, the criteria's and type of traditional food associated with food heritage
Fast Food Consumption and Obesity
This cross-sectional study investigated the pattern (frequency and characteristics) of fast food consumption and its relationship with obesity. A total of 1173 Malaysian adults were interviewed based on a structural questionnaire. Fast food consumption was higher among young Malays and significantly associated with age, ethnicity, number of children in the household. The prevalence of respondents who consumed fast food at least once a week was 17%.Estimated 21.3% of respondents were obese. However, obesity was not associated with frequenting fast food restaurants. Because of the high prevalence of fast food consumption, there is a great need to educate further the community in making healthier food choice
