Kuala Lumpur Adopt-A-Park Programme
Get PDFThe Adopt-A-Park Programme has become an innovative approach by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to materialize its green initiatives. This paper aims to examine the benefits and returns of this programme at the Laman @ EcoSky and Metropolis Park. Park users' satisfaction and allocations spent by the corporate adopters are analysed descriptively. Findings suggest that while DBKL managed to save RM24 million of the maintenance cost, 94% of the adopted park users are satisfied with the quality of the park. In future, DBKL should extend their park adoption programmes to parks near B40 neighbourhoods
The Importance of Community’s Involvement in Park Management towards Sustainable Livelihoods
Get PDFThis study investigates the impacts of park establishment on communities and how institutional structures, such as customary laws, can influence communities’ involvement in ecotourism. A sustainable livelihoods (SL) approach was adopted as a framework to analyze the relationships among institutional processes and organizational structures (i.e. NCR, institutional arrangement), livelihood strategies and livelihood outcomes. Although Tun Sakaran Marine Park contains beautiful islands, and tourism is the main economic activity, surprisingly, this study found out that local communities are not involved in tourism. Institutional support should be strengthened if ecotourism is to become a livelihood strategy for communities in TSMP
Residents’ Responses towards Green Initiatives by the State in Melaka Tengah District
Get PDFInitiatives of sustainable development require acceptance and participation of the people. This is crucial for Melaka state which wants to be a Green Technology City State by 2020. This paper evaluates the people’s acceptance and participation of these programs. Observations, responses from 152 samples, and in depth interview of officers were analysed. The study suggests the respondents are aware of the green city’s vision, mostly from social media. The popular initiatives are Melaka Without Plastic Bag and Polystyrene, Green Transportation and 2+1 Recycling Program. However, the level of people’s involvement in the initiative introduced is relatively low.
Food Contact Surfaces’ Hidden Secrets and Food Handlers’ State of Readiness
Get PDFA guarantee for clean and safe food could be achieved when the standards of food hygiene at each preparation process and cooking practices are monitored and measured accordingly. This research examines the effectiveness of a self-regulatory practice in non-commercial residential establishments. The level of hygiene of cleaned food surface contacts was analysed through swab analysis. After a 24 hours incubation, the RIDA® count plates identified light blue colonies as total coliforms, demonstrating the existence of contamination across the majority of the selected food contact surfaces. This research, therefore, strongly encourage the application of a simple scientific tool to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the measurement of hygiene and sanitisation as it could affect the quality of life of the consumers

The accessibility of social sustainable for people with disabilities (PWDs) is essential to ensure that they do not feel segregated from the community. The facilities provided must be user-friendly at places where they live and work. Although there are common facilities for PWDs, most of them do not function well and are not convenient to be used by the disabled people. Get PDFBoundary space amelioration (BSA) aims to eliminate barriers between two sites and activate the grey residual space in-between. School campus in Taiwan is often surrounded by walls, which blocks its connection to communities and often creates security concerns. School campus has become the most popular target for BSA, which tries to turn it into a functional and aesthetic space. This study intends to explore the influences of campus BSA within a community, especially its relationships with neighborhood safety, perceived change and place attachment. The result shows that the improvement of boundary environment has a significant influence on all three perceptions
Commercial Buildings as Public Spaces

To achieve this goal, some field observations, interviews and evaluation of public activities at the buildings were conducted. The public uses and the ways the company manages the buildings that enable public activities were evaluated. The results of this research show that some types of public activities are identified. The types of the public activities are related to the ways the company manages the places and the physical characters of the places
Determination of Hazard in Captive Hotel
Get PDFThis study is to identify the critical risk in cleaning process at the laundry area by using Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessment Matrix. In the identification of hazard, observation at the workplace, semi-structure interviewed four workers who are an expert in the respective area and reviewed for publication report from authorities’ bodies used as an input in risk assessment. The possibility of fingers caught into the flatwork iron (risk value: 9) has been identified the most critical risk. The appropriate risk control was isolation, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment. This study may help employer be more proactive in ensuring the safety and health of workers.

The Integration of ASRC System within BIM
Get PDFTechnically, safety planning and project execution planning has been carried out separately for most BIM-based projects. As such, it leads to difficulties in monitor these planning simultaneously during construction phase. In this regards, the Automated Safety Rule Checking (ASRC) system is perceived to distinguish fall hazards by integrating the system in the existing BIM-model. This paper pursues to explore the integration of ASRC system within BIM-based projects in Malaysia. A cross-sectional survey was employed to large public and private organisations that involved with BIM. The data were analysed by using content analysis technique and revealed that ASRC system is yet to be incorporated into BIM-based projects in Malaysia
