THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT ORCHIECTOMY TECHNIQUES ON POSTOPERATIVE PAIN IN CATS
Orchiectomy is one of the surgical procedures used to prevent uncontrolled reproduction and unwanted behaviours in cats. This study aimed to define the appropriate technique of ligation, square knot and 8-shaped knot techniques, which are commonly used orchiectomy techniques, in terms of postoperative pain, postoperative short-term complications and patient welfare. Thirty-six healthy cats of different ages and breeds were brought to the Surgery Clinic of the Animal Hospital. These cats were randomly allocated into three groups. The ligation technique was applied to the first group (GI, n=12), the square knot technique to the second group (GII, n=12), and the 8-shaped knot technique to the third group (GIII, n=12). Venous blood was collected from the cats in the study to determine blood cortisol levels, and a blinded investigator evaluated the groups according to the Glasgow Feline Composite Pain Scale (CMPS-Feline). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in blood cortisol levels. A statistically significant difference between the groups according to CMPS-Feline was found in Group I. As a result, Group II and III techniques were found to be recommendable due to the low postoperative pain. However, when using these techniques, the age of the patient undergoing orchiectomy, the spermatic cord’s resistance, and the operator’s experience should be considered

Maternal and Fetal Factors Affecting the Effectiveness of Vaginal Dinoprostone in Labor Induction
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Induction of labor is a common obstetric intervention used to encourage the onset of labor. The aim of the study was to evaluate the maternal and fetal factors that play a role in the efficacy of vaginal dinoprostone in labor induction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study included 780 patients who underwent pregnancy follow-up and delivery in our hospital between March 2018 and 2024. All data, including body mass index (BMI), age, parity, induction criteria, obstetric history, bishop score, time of delivery, newborn weight, and Apgar score, were entered by the delivery room physician. Data from 620 patients who had a successful delivery with vaginal dinoprostone application, and 160 patients who did not have a vaginal delivery were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS: The BMI value of women in group 2 at admission to the hospital was found to be significantly higher than that of women in group 1 (p= 8 in group 1 was found to be significantly higher than the rate in group 2 (p=0.006, p=0.04, respectively). CONCLUSION: It was determined that parity was one of the important determinants in achieving vaginal delivery in pregnancies where dinoprostone vaginal insert was applied. It was determined that multiparous women benefited more from induction with dinoprostone. However, according to the results of our study, more research is needed to evaluate nulliparous pregnancies requiring induction

Assessing the Success of ChatGPT-4o in Oral Radiology Education and Practice: A Pioneering Research Oral Radyoloji Eğitimi ve Uygulamasında ChatGPT-4o'nun Başarısının Değerlendirilmesi: Öncü Bir Araştırma
Objectives: This study aims to assess the comprehension and interpretation performance of Chat Generative Pre-Train Omni (GPT-4o) in the context of oral radiology education and practice. Materials and Methods: Utilizing a set of 99 questions derived from the book "White and Pharoah's Oral Radiology: Principles and Interpretation 8th Edition," this study employed ChatGPT-4o to respond to these questions thrice daily at varying times over 10 days, generating a total of 60 responses for each question. Two oral radiologists independently answered the same questions and verified their answers with the relevant textbook. Responses were compared to those of ChatGPT-4o. Results: The study revealed that ChatGPT-4o's correct answer rate was 59.4%. Time-based analysis revealed performance differences across specific day periods. Specifically, during noon and evening sessions, the success rate on the first and seventh days was statistically significantly higher (p = 0.003 and p = 0.002, respectively), while morning performance on those days was significantly lower (p 0.05). Conclusions: Presently, ChatGPT exhibits inadequacies in its application to oral radiology training and clinical practice. Despite this, expectations for platform improvement and expansion in utility persist, particularly with increased data input and advancements in artificial intelligence

Evaluation of Long-Term Cardiac Function in MIS-C Patients Using Speckle Tracking Echocardiography
BackgroundMultisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is associated with cardiac involvement in 67%-80% of cases. Cardiac symptoms often normalize rapidly after treatment, but few studies are available on the long-term cardiac effects.MethodsOur study evaluated the cardiac functions of 40 patients diagnosed with MIS-C between August 2021 and November 2022. Conventional echocardiography (ECHO), electrocardiography (ECG), speckle tracking echocardiography (STE), and cardiac MR were performed at the time of diagnosis and 3-nd 6-month follow-up.ResultsOf the 40 patients, 65% (26) were male and 35% (14) were female. The average age at diagnosis was 8.37 +/- 4.59 years (range 2-17). Systolic dysfunction was observed in 11(27.5%) patients on conventional ECHO; two patients (5%) required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support. All patients showed rapid normalization of conventional ECHO findings with treatment. At the 3-month follow-up, no abnormalities in left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) and fractional shortening (LVFS) were detected on conventional ECHO, but STE revealed contraction abnormalities in the mid-inferior and apical inferior regions of the two-chamber view, the basal inferoseptal and mid-anterolateral regions of the four-chamber view, though improvement was noted compared to initial findings. At the 6-month follow-up, only a minimal contraction abnormality persisted in the two-chamber mid-inferior region. Cardiac MR performed at 1 year in 8 (20%) patients revealed normal results.ConclusionsThe cardiac effects of MIS-C were found to improve rapidly with treatment. STE is a valuable tool for detecting and monitoring regional contraction abnormalities in MIS-C patients
