Learning organisations as quality organisations: learning organisation tendencies of schools of Foreign Languages in Turkish higher education
Schools of Foreign Languages (SFLs), especially in English Medium Instruction (EMI) settings, face intense pressure to meet and sustain high standards of quality; from having qualified instructors to implementing reliable curricula and assessments. To meet these demands, it is essential that SFLs function as learning organizations, where staff continuously create, acquire, and transfer knowledge (Garvin et al., 2008). This study investigates the perceptions of 406 lecturers working in Schools of Foreign Languages (SFLs) across Türkiye during the 2023–2024 academic year. The findings indicate that lecturers perceived their institutions as having a high tendency to be learning organizations. Significant differences did emerge in relation to lecturers’ educational qualifications. Lecturers’ perceptions of the learning environment were also shaped by the academic titles and managerial experience of their directors. These findings highlight internal dynamics that affect quality assurance in EMI and offer actionable insights for institutional improvement

A Novel Splice Site Variant in KLHL40 Gene in Multiple Affected NEM8 Family Members Who Present Phenotypic Variability
Introduction: Nemaline myopathy (NEM) is a heterogeneous muscle disease, which usually presents with hypotonia and muscle weakness. Biallelic pathogenic variants of KLHL40 gene cause severe form of NEM (NEM8), which leads to a wide range of symptoms, including hypotonia, muscle weakness, joint contractures and fractures. Nemaline bodies in muscle fiber are characteristic findings of the disease. Case Presentation: Here, we presented three affected individuals in a family with variable phenotypes, in whom the same novel splice-site variant in KLHL40 gene (c.1607+3A>PT) was detected. Discussion: This study expanded the spectrum of genotype and phenotype of NEM8, and emphasized that molecular genetic tests are highly valuable in diagnosis of patients with inconclusive muscle biopsy results
Vaccine Hesitancy in the Autism Spectrum Disorder Context: Parental Vaccine Decision-Making and Coping with Stress Strategies
Background: Despite no scientific evidence linking vaccines to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), vaccine hesitancy persists among parents of children with ASD. This study aims to compare vaccine hesitancy and behaviors among parents of children with ASD, other Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD), and without NDD, and to examine the relationship between stress coping mechanisms and vaccine hesitancy, including comparing coping mechanisms between diagnostic groups as well as their association with hesitancy. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, one parent of each child with ASD, non-ASD NDD, or without NDD was included. Data were collected using a researcher-created form, the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale in Turkish, and the Coping Style Scale Brief Form. Vaccine hesitancy, parents’ COVID-19 vaccination status, and vaccination status of children’s younger siblings were analyzed through univariate and multivariate analyses, with a focus on correlations between vaccine hesitancy and coping styles. Results: The study included one parent from each of 299 children. Parents of children with ASD showed an adjusted odds ratio of 2.66 (95% CI 1.35–5.06) for high vaccine hesitancy, 2.57 (95% CI 1.17–5.65) for not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, and 1.40 (95% CI 0.45–4.40) for younger siblings not receiving routine vaccines. A weak but significant correlation was observed between vaccine hesitancy and the use of restraint coping style among these parents (r = 0.280; p = 0.010). Conclusions: The study underscores the importance of targeted educational efforts and personalized communication to address vaccine hesitancy among parents of children with ASD. Enhancing vaccination coverage in this community requires further research to develop interventions tailored to their specific needs
Ottoman propaganda through jihad pamphlets and leaflets in World War I
This research explores a lesser-known aspect of World War I by examining Ottoman propaganda, particularly jihad pamphlets, aimed at mobilizing Muslims against the British Empire and its Allies. Using historical records and primary sources, the study reveals the Ottoman Empire's involvement in a broader ‘revolution program’ with Germany and highlights parallels between Allied and Ottoman propaganda. The analysis offers new insights into the strategies and content of these materials, shedding light on how wartime propaganda shaped perceptions and influenced Muslim communities under Allied rule or influence during World War I
Comparison of the efficacy of sunitinib and pazopanib in patients with advanced non-clear renal cell carcinoma
Non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma (non-ccRCC) is a highly heterogeneous disease group, accounting for approximately 25% of all RCC cases. Due to its rarity and especially heterogeneity, phase III trial data is limited and treatment options generally follow those of clear cell RCC. In the literature, there exists a number of studies with sunitinib, cabozantinib, and everolimus, but data on the efficacy of pazopanib are limited. Our aim in this study was to compare the efficacy of pazopanib and sunitinib, in a multicenter retrospective cohort of non-ccRCC patients. Our study included patients diagnosed with non-ccRCC who received pazopanib or sunitinib treatment as first-line therapy from 22 tertiary hospitals. We compared the progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and response rates of pazopanib and sunitinib treatments. Additionally, we investigated prognostic factors in non-ccRCC. PFS and response rates of sunitinib and pazopanib were found to be similar, while a numerical difference was observed in OS. Being 65 years and older, being in the intermediate or poor risk group according to the International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium, having liver metastases, presence of a sarcomatoid component, and having de novo metastatic disease were found to be significantly associated with shorter PFS. Pazopanib treatment appears to have similar efficacy in the treatment of non-ccRCC compared to sunitinib. Though randomized controlled trials are lacking and will probably be never be available, we suggest that pazopanib could be a preferred agent like sunitinib and cabozantinib
Domestic difficulties faced by women with a severe mental disorder: A qualitative study
When the family is considered as a system, individuals with a severe mental disorder can be affected by all the processes and conditions in the family. Women with a severe mental disorder are also affected by many factors such as their place in the family and society, gender roles and gender inequality. In the study, the authors aimed to determine domestic difficulties faced by women diagnosed with a severe mental disorder who were followed in a Community Mental Health Center in a province in the west of T & uuml;rkiye. The study was a descriptive qualitative research design. Women who were diagnosed with a severe mental disorder, who were followed by the for mentioned Community Mental Health Center and who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The data collected using the one-on-one interview method were analyzed with the content analysis method. After the analysis of the data, the following four main themes related to the difficulties experienced in the family by women with a severe mental disorder identified: domestic violence, being both a sick person and a caregiver, stigma and coping strategies. It was concluded that women individuals with a diagnosis of a severe mental disorder experienced not only mental disorder-related difficulties but also difficulties of being a woman in the society brought about by their gender roles

Effectiveness of Self-Hydration Management Interventions in Middle-Aged and Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of self-hydration management interventions for middle-aged and older adults without cognitive impairment. METHOD: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Studies published from January 2010 to May 2024 were included. A total of 1,065 articles were reviewed, leading to the selection of 20 eligible articles; of these, five were considered suitable for inclusion. RESULTS: The analysis showed a significant increase in total daily fluid intake and urine volume in intervention groups compared to control groups. This improvement demonstrates the effectiveness of various self-hydration management interventions. CONCLUSION: Nurse-led self-hydration management interventions are effective and provide valuable guidance for middle-aged and older adults
