The effect of nuclear and fossil fuel energy R&D expenditures on environmental qualities in Canada
Minimizing environmental problems and a clean ecosystem are at the top of countries’ political agendas. Although Canada is an eco-friendly country, the rapid increase in its ecological footprint (EF) and the decreasing load capacity factor (LCF) in recent years make the analysis of Canada's environmental determinants important. In this context, the study analyzes the effects of fossil fuel and nuclear-related research and development (R&D) expenditures on the EF and LCF under the load capacity curve (LCC) and environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) conditions for the period 1981–2022, employing the Bayer-Hanck cointegration test and the Fourier-ADL approach. The findings indicate that the EKC and LCC hypotheses are valid for Canada, that fossil fuel R&D reduces the LCF, and that nuclear energy R&D contributes to environmental development. Therefore, Canadian policymakers should promote nuclear energy technologies and use the financial resources provided by economic expansion for clean energy purposes
Evaluation of the relationship between sphenoid sinus morphology and area and volume by computed tomography
Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of sphenoid sinus pneumatization types, Onodi cell (OC), internal carotid artery (ICA), optic nerve (ON) on sinus volume and area on computed tomography (CT) images. Methods: The CT images of 150 patients were evaluated. Sphenoid sinus pneumatization types, OC prevalence, protrusion and dehiscence of ICA and ON, the volume and area were evaluated. Results: The sinus volume and area were statistically higher in patients with bilateral protrusion of ICA and ON then patients without protrusion of ICA and ON. The mean volume and area of sinus were 9949.4 ± 351.0 mm3 and 4570.9 ± 1604.9 mm2, respectively. The volume and area of sphenoid sinus did not differ significantly between groups with and without OC. The postsellar b type sphenoid sinus had the highest volume, while conchal type has the least volume. Conclusions: Bilateral protrusion and dehiscence of ICA and bilateral protrusion of ON caused a significant increase in the sphenoid sinus volume and area. The presence of ICA and ON, the pneumatization of the sinus is an anatomical structure that can affect the sinus volume and area. Before the operation, three-dimensional evaluation should be performed to determine whether these structures are bilateral/unilateral and it should be remembered that the sinus volume and area can change
Examining the Development of the Concept of Area in Secondary School Students with a Digital Educational Game
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of a digital game designed within the framework of hierarchic interactionalism theory on the development of the concept of area in secondary school students. The digital game used in this study was designed after being influenced by the preliminary concepts and skills related to the concept of area taught in traditional activities. A qualitative research method was used to examine students’ conceptual development in detail. First, pre-clinical interviews were conducted with the students through traditional activities related to the concept of area. These clinical interviews were evaluated according to the criteria in Battista (2003) and Outhered and Mitchelmore (2000). Ten students having low levels in the concept of area participated in the study. Students were encouraged to use the thinking aloud technique and thus the development of cognitive strategies related to the preconceptions and skills used in the game were revealed. At the end of the game, post-clinical interviews were conducted with the students using traditional activities and the development of the students was revealed. It was found as a result of the present study that the digital game was quite effective on conceptual development, similar to traditional activities. Design features such as being reusable, allowing mistakes and having interactive objects shows that digital play is a more effective tool than traditional activities
ORTODONTİDE KULLANILAN ÜÇ BOYUTLU GÖRÜNTÜLEME YÖNTEMLERİ VE DİJİTALLEŞME
Amaç: Ortodontik kayıtlar, ortodontik tedavinin temel kilometre taşlarındandır. Bu kayıtların alınmasısırasında uzun yıllar boyunca iki boyutlu görüntüleme sistemleri kullanılmıştır. İki boyutlu görüntülemesistemlerinin bazı kısıtlamaları olduğundan üç boyutlu görüntüleme sistemleri devreye girmiştir(1). Buyöntemler sayesinde sert ve yumuşak dokular üç boyutlu olarak gözlemlenebilmektedir. Ayrıca üçboyutlu görüntüleme sistemlerinin çeşitli avantajları vardır(2). Bu derlemenin amacı üç boyutlugörüntülemede kullanılan güncel yöntemleri, ağız içi tarayıcıları ve ortodontide kullanılan dijital yaklaşımörneklerini irdelemektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma sistematik incelemeler, randomize kontrollü çalışmalar,prospektif veretrospektif klinik çalışmalar, vaka serileri ve raporlar gibi çeşitli kaynaklardan elde edilen verileredayanmaktadır.Derlememizde, ortodontide kullanılan üç boyutlu görüntüleme yöntemlerinin vedijitalleşmenin avantajları, sınırlamaları ve doğruluğu incelenmiştir.Bulgular: Üç boyutlu görüntüleme yöntemleri ve dijitalleşme, geleneksel iki boyutlu görüntülemeyöntemleri ile karşılaştırıldığında , ortodontistlere zaman kazandırmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, ortodontistleretanı koyma ve tedavi planlama süreçlerinde daha doğru bilgiler sağlamakta ve bu sayede tedaviyeuygunluk açısından daha yüksek bir doğruluk seviyesi sunmaktadır.Sonuç: Diş hekimliğinde dijital teknoloji her geçen gün hızla ilerlemektedir. Dijital sistemler öncedenmanuel olarak yapılan işleri daha kolay, daha hızlı, daha ucuz ve daha öngörülebilir hale getirmektedir(3).Ortodontide 3D görüntüleme yöntemleri, vakalar hakkında ek bilgiler elde etmede çok önemli bir rol oynar.Ayrıca, tüm 3D görüntüleme yöntemleri ortodontistlerin rutin bir uygulaması haline gelirse hasta kayıtlarınınkaybı azalacaktır(4). İlerleyen dönemlerde dijital tarama sistemlerinin, geleneksel ağız içi alçı modellerinyerini alabilecek hassasiyette sahip olabileceği düşünülmektedir(5).</p
