    An Insightful Review on Sandhana Kalpana

    Ayurveda is an ancient medicine system. Over the course time, Ayurevdic treatments have evolved and changed. Rasashastra Evam Bhaishajya Kalpana is the branch of Ayurveda that deals with the preparation of medicines with herbs, minerals and metals. Sandhana Kalpana is one of the simplest but unique dosage forms which are widely used since ages. It is mainly used for health promotion and treatment of numerous diseases. Sandhana Kalpana includes every preparation that results out from the fermentation process. In Ayurveda, Dhataki Pushpa, Madhukpushpa, Surabeej and yeast are commonly used as Sandhana Dravya for fermentation process. Primarily, Sandhana Kalpana is divided into two types i.e., Madya Kalpana and Shukta Kalpana. Madya Kalpana are said to be alcoholic preparation where as Shukta Kalpana referred to acidic preparation. Sandhana Kalpana is used in wide range of diseases. Sandhana Kalpana are having nutritional value can be used even in children, lactating mothers and old age patients also. Asavarishta have a unique place among all the Sandhana Kalpana. They are mostly used among all Sandhana Kalpana due to their quick absorption, high efficacy, easy to prepare, easy to handle, easy to store and also easily palatable for patients. Sandhana preparations contain self-generated alcohol which acts as self preservatives having prolonged shelf life. The purpose of this article is to go through all the terminology of Sandhana Kalpana and to know more about therapeutic range of all these Kalpana so that they can be used therapeutically more in daily practice

    Background: The most well-known and advanced preparations for Parada that incorporate the Jarana process are called Kupipakwa Rasayana. In this procedure, Gandhaka, Parada, and other metals and minerals are heated gradually together to create a very close bondage that could help the product have better properties than other formulations made with the same ingredients. Shila Sindura is one of the most unique metalo-mineral preparation by Kupipakwa method. Aim: To compile and screen the all information regarding Shila Sindura (SS) preparation, Bhavana Dravya, duration of Paka, dose, indications and Anupana (vehicle). Material & Methods: References of SS compiled from different Rasashastra text and up to the 2024 all published literature on SS compile from different database like Pub-med, J-gate, google, Scopus. Results & Conclusion: Total 11 reference of SS were found in various Rasa text, most of the SS was used in Kushtha (Skin diseases), Shwasa (Asthma), Jwara (Fever), slight difference in ingredient, Bhavana Dravya, dose, Anupana

    Management of Kashtartava (Dysmenorrhea) with Vishwadi Kwatha: An Open Labelled Single -Arm Clinical Trial

    Introduction: Kashtartava (Dysmenorrhea) is a commonly reported menstrual disorder which affects the working ability and quality of life of the woman. Due to in discreet diet and lifestyle, young women are more liable to get afflicted with this disorder in present era. This trial was planned to evaluate the effect of Vishwadi Kwatha which is an unexplored formulation in the management of dysmenorrhoea. Materials and Methods: 18 patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected from the OPD of Prasutitantra & Streeroga, of the institution (3 drop outs). Oral administration of Vishwadi Kwatha in a dose of 40ml, twice a day, before meals was given for 1 month. The effect of therapy was assessed by change in the scores of assessment criteria including Visual Analogue Scale. Follow up was done for 1 month. Result: Statistically highly significant (p<0.001) results were obtained in both the duration (75.60 %) and severity (73.68% relief) of menstrual pain and also in associated symptoms like Aruchi(93.75% relief), and Bala-Bhramsha (91.17% relief).The mean VAS score of 7.467±1.407 before treatment was reduced to 2.333±0.9 after treatment. Discussion: Vishwadi Kwatha was mentioned in Shoola Prakarana of Bhaishajyaratnavali as Sadya Shoolahara. The formulation is having Vatanulomana, Dipana-Pachana, Artavajanana, Kaphahara, and Shrotoshodhana properties which will help the easy expulsion of properly formed Artava through the unobstructed channels by correcting the Vimarga Gati of Vayu. Conclusion: Oral administration of Vishwadi Kwatha was found to be effective in the management of Kashtartava and recommended for further research

    Clinical Assessment of Rasnadi Taila Nasya in the Management of Vatika Shiroroga: An Ayurvedic Approach to Tension-Type Headache

    Tension-type headache (TTH) or Vatika Shiroroga exerts a considerable socioeconomic burden through reduced productivity, compromised work efficacy, and diminished quality of life, despite its non-fatal nature. The allopathic management strategies for TTH adversely affect patients including habituation, medication overuse headache; cognitive impairment, gastrointestinal disorders, and metabolic disturbances. To overcome these limitations alternative therapeutic approaches such as Ayurveda can be used. The objective of the present study is to develop a safe, cost-effective, and comprehensive therapeutic protocol using Rasnadi Taila Nasya for patients suffering from Vatika Shiroroga. Thirty patients were selected for the clinical study. Treatment efficacy analysis revealed complete remission in 30% of patients, marked improvement in 50%, moderate improvement in 13.33%, and mild improvement in 6.67%. Rasnadi Taila Nasya serves as an effective natural remedy for tension-type headaches, offering relief through its soothing, anti-inflammatory, and muscle-relaxant properties

    Exploring Integrative Ayurveda in the Supportive Management of a Child with Angelman Syndrome - A Case Study

    Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a rare neurogenetic disorder caused by the pathological lack of expression of the UBE3A gene on the maternal chromosome, combined with the physiological genomic imprinting or silencing of the paternal chromosome in neurons. It clinically presents with Intellectual disability, hypotonia, inappropriate laughter, poor speech etc,. The estimated prevalence is 1 in 16,000 live births. Though it presents significant challenges to affected children and their families, early intervention and proper care can improve the quality of life. A case of 5 year old female child with k/c/o Angelman Syndrome visited OPD, Department of Kaumarabhritya, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute of Ayurveda and Hospital, Bengaluru. She was presented with slurred speech with minimal words (Vak Vikara), lack of social communication, hyperactivity and inattentiveness (Chanchala Chitta), reduced concentration (Anavasthita Chittatva), unsteady gait and hypotonia, sleep disturbance. Due to involvement of Genetic susceptibility status and Predominant Vata Dosha symptoms, the condition is diagnosed as Beejadushtigata Vata Nanatmaja Vikara and appropriate Shamanaoushadi and Panchakarma therapies.     Introduction: Muyalcheviyan, a lesser-known but highly revered plant in Ayurveda, has garnered attention for its medicinal properties and therapeutic potential. Despite its limited mention in mainstream herbal literature, its efficacy in traditional Ayurvedic treatments underscores the need for comprehensive research and documentation. Materials and Methods: This article aims to provide an overview of its Physicochemical and Phytochemical analysis, pharmacological properties, microbial limit test and its relevance in contemporary and traditional herbal medicine. All the specified analysis were done according to Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India standards. Results: Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, proteins etc. The physicochemical analysis revealed all the parameters under the mentioned range.     Amapachana, Snehapana, Shodhana - A Promising and Novel Approach to Adverse Effects and Corticosteroid Resistant Condition in Rheumatism - A Case Study

    Rheumatism, is a general term for group of disorders that cause inflammation in connective tissues particularly the joints and muscles. The most common symptoms are stiffness and pain. Amavata is one of the commonest disorders caused by the impairment of Agni, formation of Ama and vitiation of Vata Dosha where in Ama combines with Vata Dosha and occupies Shleshmasthana such as Amashaya, Asthi and Sandhi. In terms of similarities of clinical symptoms Amavata is understood in parlance with Rheumatoid Arthritis in the present case. The adverse and toxic symptoms like blurring of vision, altered appetite, indigestion and altered bowel habits due to long standing use of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory Drugs, antimetabolites, glucocorticoids and immunosuppression therapies, lead the patient to search for an alternative treatment. With help of Amapachana, Snehapana and Shodhana the patient and their attendees witnessed the stabilization of Agni(metabolism) sooner with regression of arthritis symptoms and withdrawal of glucocorticoids and other immunosuppressants which was the most needed relief they were eagerly waiting for. A significant result was noted after treatment in terms of reduction in level of RA factor from 20iu/MI to 1.1iu/MI and CRP from 28.5mg/L to 3.5mg/L and ESR from 66mm/hr to 42mm/hr. The overall physical, mental and social wellbeing was observed proving significant efficacy of principal based holistic approach of Ayurveda
